  • Emily Kinney Is NOT Dating Norman Reedus

Emily Kinney Is NOT Dating Norman Reedus

Emily Kinney and Norman Reedus, or Beth and Daryl if you prefer, are absolutely not dating.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the two Walking Dead stars are not real-life lovers.

On Wednesday, US Weekly reported to have exclusive information on a new, budding relationship between Emily Kinney, 29, and Norman Reedus, 46.

The source said of Emily Kinney and Norman Reedus, “They had a connection early on in the show, but the romance developed recently. They’re still pretty guarded about it.”

The source continued, “He was one of the first to support her at her concerts when she was still on the show.”

Goodmorning !!! Headed to San Fran, who's gonna be at Brick and Mortar?! #thisiswartour

Of course, many had hoped that Emily Kinney would become Daryl’s first love interest on The Walking Dead, but it wasn’t meant to be, as she was kidnapped and killed.

It reportedly wasn’t meant to be in real life, either.

A rep confirmed to E! News that Emily Kinney is not dating Reedus.

Then, Norman Reedus posted a shot to Twitter that poked fun of the accusations.

It seems he won’t be finding love on the show with Carol, either.

Reedus said, “The thing is, once you do that, it’s done.”

He continued, “I like all the awkward things in between that make a person and make it honest. I think that that character, once he shacks up with somebody, he’s going to be with them for life. I don’t want to blow my wad, so to speak, right off the bat, you know what I mean?”

What do you think? Were you really hoping the rumors about Emily Kinney and Norman Reedus were true?

  • Beastie Boys: Here’s How Ad-Rock Could Get His Role In ‘Walking Dead’

The Walking Dead is currently on hiatus so it’s the perfect time for Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys to pitch his ideas to Greg Nicotero.

Ad-Rock, who’s known in real life as Adam Horowitz, is unabashed in his love for the epic zombie TV show.

“I f—ing love that show,” Horowitz confessed. “Every moment of that show.… I would love to be in The Walking Dead.”

But unlike other celebrities who prefer to be zombified, this Beastie Boy wants to remain alive, and maybe be friends with resident bad boy Daryl Dixon.

In a recent Entertainment Weekly radio, the hip-hop legend said he want “to be like [Daryl’s] friend from the city. Like a distant relative—‘He’s my uncle’s friend from New York.”

“I’d show up with like a PBS tote bag and something from Zabar’s—be like, ‘Hey, I got lox! Who wants bagels?’” Horowitz added.

While the idea he’s trying to pitch is pretty farfetched, and would likely result in Ad-Rock getting killed by Carl just for the bagels, the singer can say that he has already claimed some notable roles.

The Beastie Boy member currently has a small but notable role in Adam Sandler’s While We’re Young.

But maybe Ad-Rock doesn’t need to play some character in The Walking Dead. Maybe he can play himself, like he was on tour in Atlanta or something when the zombie apocalypse hit and he had to fight for his right…to live (see what I did there?)

Daryl Dixon, or even Rick Grimes, could be revealed as being a fan of the Beastie Boys.

Ad-Rock would eventually find his way to Alexandria and they’ll have one big, noisy party to welcome him.  After all, even in the depressing world of The Walking Dead, a little party every now and then never hurts anyone.

At least, not until the zombie horde overruns the community.

  • Emily Kinney Says Goodbye to “Walking Dead” Character

    (Warning: Walking Dead spoilers ahead!)

29-year-old Emily Kinney, who plays Beth on AMC’s Walking Dead, found out about the demise of her character only a few hours before the script was released to the rest of the cast.

“The season finale was episode 508,” she told Entertainment Weekly, “and I found out during 507.”

Emily wasn’t alone. Many cast members reached out to her after they received the news.

“They seemed surprised too,” she said. “It’s always really hard. We’ve worked together for years now. So, it’s really sad.”

But it wasn’t just the news of Beth’s death that caused Kinney unrest. She immediately began thinking of real-life situations like the fact that she now has an apartment in Atlanta.

“I think as actors we are a little conditioned to think like, okay, you do a job and the job ends — it’s like freelance. You go to the next job. But I have been working on this show now for years and it definitely has been an anchor in my life. I schedule other things around the shooting schedule and all these people have become really good friends and so of course I am sad to leave the character behind and then there’s another part of me that is excited that I can play some new characters, and that’s exciting.

“But there’s also the life stuff, like, Oh, I have to get rid of my apartment. I have to figure out what to do with my cable! What does this mean for me and my schedule? And oh, but there are all these people and I want to see them because it’s my last chance. And then also it’s my last chance to give a really kick-ass performance so I really want to work on my scenes. I really want to dig in. So there’s a lot going on in your head any time that you lose a job but are also trying to give a great performance.”

Kinney’s character, one of the youngest of the team, has shown some growth over the years. Unfortunately this is also what led to her demise. But, nonetheless, Kinney was pleased with Beth.

“I was really thankful that this season that you did get to see so much of Beth and you did get to see her without her group and what kind of person she could be and how she could change in different circumstances. It’s fun to work on and I was really thankful. Although I’m sad it ended so soon and wasn’t expecting it to end so soon, I was happy that you really got to know her before she left.”

Kinney also added that she was pleased with her death scene.

“I’m glad I didn’t die in episode 4 and have it be Beth isolated,” she said. “Sometimes the big moments like that last scene where I get shot — as exciting as those moments are, I really love just coming to set and working on a scene and having a conversation with someone and making it feel real. I was thankful I was able to not end on days where I was just laying around bloody. I got to work, you know?”

Kinney, who still hangs out with Scott Wilson (Hershel), says she plans to keep in touch with the rest of the cast as well.

“I will try to stay in touch with everyone.”

The second half of Walking Dead season five returns on February 8, 2015.

  • Zombie Apocalypse Report: The Worst Places To Be in America When the Walkers Start Munching

Real estate website Trulia takes their mission seriously. The website touts its expertise on everything “from neighborhood insights to how to start your home search”. Recently they went all out to prove they are the authority on those insights by preparing a report on “The Most Appetizing cities for U.S. Zombies”

Trulia based their analysis on which locations had:

Higher hospital density – Zombies would have quick access to defenseless “food”

More congestion – Making it difficult for humans to run from zombies.

Fewer hardware stores – Making it difficult for humans to protect themselves in an attack.

Higher walk scores – Making it easier for “walkers” to get around.

The top cities in the report were:

    1. Honolulu, Hawaii
    2. New York, New York
    3. Newark, New Jersey
    4. Boston, Massachusetts
    5. Washington, DC
    6. San Francisco, California
    7. Miami, Florida
    8. Orange County, California
    9. Los Angeles, California
    10. Seattle, Washington

Chicago, Denver, and Portland also ranked high on the “Don’t Be Caught Here if The Walking Dead Ever Becomes Reality” meter.

Not everyone is taking their ranking in the report as a bad thing. Honolulu Magazine takes the ranking in stride.

“We always thought we’d do well, living on one of the most remote islands in the world. Or maybe that’s the problem—there’s nowhere to run. Once again, it’s location, location, location.”

Maybe that’s because they already have a plan in place for the Zombie Apocalypse.

“If the unthinkable ever did happen, and Beretania and King streets were filled with the shuffling, moaning undead, we know exactly where we’d hole up: MAKIKI SAFEWAY! Think about it: The building is on stilts, so you’d be safely off the ground level, with only a couple of stairway access points to defend. And hey, it’s a supermarket, fully stocked with all the food, medicine and booze you’d need to stay alive and happy until the cavalry arrived. Let the hardcore survivalist types run for the back of Palolo Valley—we’re gonna stay where the beer is.”

  • Penny Dreadful Series Premiere Shows Promise

Penny Dreadful, Showtime’s entry into the supernatural category, had a relatively strong formal debut Sunday night.

Going up against genre heavy weights such as AMC’s The Walking Dead and FX’s American Horror Story, Penny Dreadful attempts to set itself apart “with a combination of literary allusion, fine acting, patience and fearlessness” according to a review in The New York Times.

The series was created by John Logan, who is known for his Oscar-nominated work on films such as The Aviator, Gladiator, and Hugo. Sam Mendes (American Beauty, The Kite Runner, Revolutionary Road) is executive producer. Logan and Mendes previously collaborated on Skyfall.

Set in Victorian London, 1891 to be precise, Penny Dreadful stars Timothy Dalton, Eva Green and Josh Hartnett as a mishmash trio of explorers searching for Dalton’s character’s daughter. Classic horror characters such as Frankenstein, Dracula and Dorian Gray are woven into the story line.

“Penny dreadful” was a term used to refer to dime novels and horror books in Victorian-era England.

According to The Toronto Star, the series premiere “did a fantastic job at setting the series’ dark, gothic tone while making it accessible to both new and seasoned horror fans alike.”

Penny Dreadful debuted in Showtime’s 10:00 pm time slot immediately after network strongman Californication and drew in 872,000 viewers. After accounting for multiple plays Sunday night, the total number of viewers came in at 1.443 million.

Breaking down the stats even further, 895,000 – or 62% – of the 1.443 million were in the highly-sought-after 18-49 age demographic. This made Penny Dreadful’s premiere the best in that younger age group since Dexter’s in 2006, which set a network record of 65%.

Impressively, Penny Dreadful topped the series premieres of Homeland and Masters of Sex by about 5%.

Further evidence of the premiere’s success is the fact that the numbers above don’t include the 900,000 Showtime subscribers who watched online when the network made the premiere available two weeks prior to Sunday night’s formal debut.

  • The Walking Dead: Carol’s Devastating Decision

    [SPOILER ALERT]

Many fans of the hit AMC series The Walking Dead have been barking that the second half of Season Four has been a bit slow. The group was torn apart after the fall of the prison and each subsequent episode has focused on a different band of survivors and their fight to figure out what they should do next in the days of the Zombie Apocalypse. However, after last night’s episode, The Grove, fans of the show are lighting up social media in total disbelief.

    Yes, the show went there.

Like so many devastating episodes of The Walking Dead, there were moments when things were looking up. Carol, Tyrese, little Lizzie, her sister Mika, and baby Judith stumbled upon a Pecan Grove. There was plenty of water to drink from the well, there was food to eat, and they even had a working gas stove. Tyrese and Carol thought they were safe and made the decision not to trek out to the unknown of The Termimus. They figured they could stay at the grove, plant some food, and make a life that wasn’t filled with fear.

Then, Lizzie took a turn. Yes, in hindsight we should have known that something was coming. The girl was off. She didn’t get that the zombies were not play toys but killers who were no longer human. She herself almost offered her hand to the zombie on the tracks because the idea of turning into one didn’t seem that bad to the disillusioned little girl.

But the nightmarish horror that occurred at the end of the episode, even the most perverse mind couldn’t have seen coming. Tyrese and Carol had a nice talk while getting water out in the grove. Yes, they would stay there, raise the kids, trust each other, feel safe. However, when they returned to the house to find Lizzie’s hands covered in blood and poor sweet Mika stabbed to death lying on the ground, that life disappeared. But what was worse was that Lizzie didn’t get it. She didn’t understand what she’d done. She thought that Mika would turn into a zombie and become her friend. She told Tyrese and Carol that Mika would come back, that she didn’t hurt her head.

There would be no happy ending. There would be no more nights shelling pecans and toasting them in the oven while safely tucked away in a house that used to be a home. Carol ominously tells Tyrese, “We can’t sleep with her and Judith under the same roof.”

Instinctively, Carol knew what had to be done.

If anyone ever says to you when you have your back turned “look at the flowers,” you should run. In a twisted spin on Of Mice and Men, Carol shoots young Lizzie. It is brutally devastating, shocking, numbing, nightmarish and jaw dropping. But there was no other way. Carol has proven time and time again that humanity and conscience must be swept aside in order to survive. Anyone without that instinct gets devoured.

Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, sat for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She talked about the necessity of Lizzie’s execution. “It was something that had to be done in that world and under those circumstances; Lizzie in that world seemed inevitable. It would be impossible for Tyreese and Carol to move forward with Judith, who doesn’t have any experience of the world before the apocalypse. It was so devastating for Carol to have to do that.”

It can’t be argued that one of the reasons why The Walking Dead is so popular is because it doesn’t follow a set of narrative rules. It’s not a story about zombies. It’s a story about how people change when there are only two options: die or survive. It’s messy, ugly, and gut-wrenching. In many episodes, spectator expectations get shattered. If you try and take a breath, if you think you know how things are going to turn out…you don’t. The Grove proved that last night. It was a warning to viewers not to become too comfortable. There’s more danger to come, no one is safe.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Creator Frank Darabont Is Suing AMC

Frank Darabont, the creator of ‘The Walking Dead’ has sued AMC for supposedly trying to cheat him out of tens of millions of dollars in profits from the hit zombie series.

“Despite four seasons of unprecedented programming success and profitability for defendants, Darabont has not received and may never receive one dollar in profits for developing the series,” the suit said.

Darabont is a well known Oscar-nominated screenwriter and film director,  famous for his work in The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Green Mile (1999). He worked for several years to develop and write ‘The Walking Dead’ TV series based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book about zombies. Darabont now believes that his licensing agreement with AMC was a sham that aimed at making profit for the parent company while denying its participants their rightful share. In the suit, Darabont also complains that AMC fired him without cause during the second season in order to dodge renegotiating his deal.

AMC did not immediately respond to the suit which also alleges that AMC decided to develop the series in-house and awarded itself a low airing license fee thus engaging  in “self-dealing”.

Darabont’s complaint says that the licensing fee is being manipulated because the broadcasting company and the licensing company are one in the same – AMC. “For instance, the ‘Mad Men’ licensing company gets $3 million from AMC per episode whereas AMC pays just $1.45 million to itself  per ‘Walking Dead’ episode. According to the lawsuit, ‘Mad Men’ only draws about 25% the number of viewers that ‘The Walking Dead’ does.

As of December 2012, AMC’s statements showed that “The Walking Dead” had to overcome $49 million deficit before its creator could see the first dollar. Darabont now accuses AMC of manipulating the figures so that the “plaintiffs never see that first dollar.”

The suit says that the company claims a $55 million deficit after a production cost totaled $104.5 million and AMC paid itself $49 million dollars in license fees. Therefore, as long as AMC continues to run a deficit the plaintiffs won’t get paid.

  • ‘Family Feud’ Zombie Answer is Hilarious [VIDEO]

Based on one contestant’s knowledge of zombies on a recent episode of Family Feud, it’s probably safe to say she wouldn’t survive a zombie apocalypse. Watch the video above to see what answer the contestant provides when host Steve Harvey asks her to name one thing she knows about zombies.

When Steve Harvey asked the contestants to name something they know about zombies, one contestant named Christie responded with, “They’re black.” We know that she was probably referring to a zombie’s rotting flesh, but that doesn’t make the answer any less funny, especially considering the situation.

Harvey’s reaction to the answer was equally hilarious; as is typical in these situations, he managed to say plenty with his facial expressions and body language. The woman tried to save herself by saying she didn’t know whether zombies were white (maybe that throws the “rotting flesh” theory out the window) and then began clapping, saying her answer was on the board. Harvey told her to shut up and then looked at the answer board. Guess what? “Black zombies” didn’t make the cut. The other contestant’s answer was slightly better–she said “They move slow,” which was on the board, but was the least popular answer.

So, now that you’ve watched the video and have heard the woman’s hilarious answer, it’s probably safe to assume that if she were to cross paths with The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes that her answer to “How many walkers have you killed?” would be zero (at least early on). Otherwise, it sounds like she might be unintentionally taking out humans.

Here is what we imagine Rick’s response would be to that answer:

    (image)

In other zombie news, The Walking Dead ratings are still very strong. The show is drawing in around 20 million viewers on average, and its demo rating in the ages 18-49 range beat out NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Scandal and The Big Bang Theory.

  • If ‘Walking Dead’ Were Real, Could Zombies Really Walk?

So AMC has renewed zombie-smashing hit series The Walking Dead for a fifth season, but after five years of shambling around trying to munch the brains of Rick Grimes & co., would there be enough of the zombies left for them to continue walking?

A forensic consultant with Rutgers University-Camden, Kimberlee Sue Moran, thinks the dead would be more threatening to the water table than your brain cavity. “At the root of decomposition is liquefaction,” she said, noting that when the body dies, it immediately begins eating itself from the inside in a process called autolysis.

“Within three days, you would see signs of decomposition, so the body would not be stable enough to run around,” Moran notes. “Rigor mortis is like a body-wide cramp, which would make it hard for the zombie to move… You hear about friendly bacteria and probiotics all the time, and they are friendly until the body dies, then they get a bit hungry.”

The living bacteria from our dead guts continues living after our bodies cease to function, and as a result, the body bloats as the bacteria leaves waste in the form of gas. Those byproducts, and the bacteria themselves, are responsible for pale zombie skin tint.

But what if the brain were reanimated, and those necessary body functions were not stopped, but slowed? “You need the frontal lobe to see and certain parts of the brain to make your arms and legs move, but none of that is possible without oxygen and blood,” Moran says. “The brain is made of cells, so if all the other cells are liquifying, so would the brain.”

“In the movie Resident Evil,” Moran continued, “they said it was a very primitive part of the brain that drives basic instincts like hunger. But sleep and reproduction are also basic instincts and that’s not taking place in any of these stories. Taking in nutrients is not going to serve any purpose for the zombie.”

So what drove Moran’s interests into exploring the plausibility of the zombie? The Danny Boyle bio-thriller 28 Days Later. “28 Days Later caused my irrational fear of zombies because they were biological agent-driven zombies… Part of fear is trying to rationalize what is happening and find ways around it.”

  • “Walking Dead” Spinoff Announced

The zombie universe is getting ready to expand, and just in time for Halloween. The early phase of developing a spinoff series from AMC’s popular The Walking Dead is currently underway. Though the series is not set for airtime until 2015, the show will be the product of the same masterminds who brought the world The Walking Dead, which includes Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert.

According to AMC’s president, Charlie Collier, “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer. We look forward to working with Robert, Gale, and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dxg27QsaIEY

The new series will take place within the same worldview shown in the current zombie hit; however, a new cast of characters will be introduced instead of relying on shifting characters from the present popular series.

Fans are looking forward to the new show even though they will have to wait awhile before the first episode airs. Some fans have taken to Twitter in order to share their excitement about the news. Will the new show be able to continue the same fervor and following that The Walking Dead currently holds?

  • “Norman Reedus Is A Great Guy” Says Steven Yeun

Fans of the hit series The Walking Dead will be preparing for the start of the fourth season due to air on October 13, 2013; however, in the meantime attention is focusing on the individual actors renown for their roles within the television series. Steven Yeun, or as fans of the series know him, Glenn, recently had a conversation with Access Hollywood where the hot topic centered around Norman Reedus who is the epitome of the tough, zombie-fighting, bite-prevailing hero Daryl.

Steven Yeun had this to say, “He’s awesome. Daryl is Daryl and Norman is Norman and people somehow mix the two up. Norman is such a great guy and he’s a fantastic actor. He’s not sitting there like, ‘Oh yeah. I have so many women all over me.’ He’s just such a nice guy and he’s also realistic, and if women are hoarding him, then he’s just going to take it in stride. He’s a really chill dude. It’s amazing to see what he goes through because sometimes I’m glad that it doesn’t happen to me, but sometimes I’m extremely jealous as well.”

Norman Reedus is known for his creative side, which he proved when leaving his signature on some pretty unusual objects. Melissa McBride, who plays Carol Peletier in The Walking Dead, shared her story with Access Hollywood. “Here’s a funny little Norman story. There’s a bunch of bananas in a bowl at the craft services little tent and Norman signed all of the bananas. He was wrapped, he was leaving, he probably went over to get something to take away and [thought], ‘I think I’ll sign all these bananas.’ And he just signed all the bananas and left them in the bowl,” she said.

The Walking Dead has become a huge success, partly due to the intriguing story line and gripping character turmoil, but also because many are fans of the individual actors as proven from excited actor-inspired tweets.

  • Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Gets a Real Trailer

Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Gets a Real Trailer

Back near the beginning of the year, gameplay footage from Activision’s upcoming Walking Dead: Survival Instinct video game hit the web. The footage was so dreadful that fans speculated it must be from an unfinished version of the game, and Activision later confirmed that the video was a fan edit of footage from an early build of the game, and that it doesn’t reflect on the game’s actual quality.

The 20-second release date trailer released in mid-January raised suspicions about the game’s quality by showing absolutely no game footage. Instead, it featured some bland statements about the game from the actors who play the game’s characters on The Walking Dead AMC TV show.

Today Survival Instinct has finally gotten an “Official” trailer featuring footage from the game. Unfortunately, it does nothing to assuage gamers’ fears that the game is only a low-quality cash-in on a popular TV brand. The video appears to be made up almost entirely of in-game cut scenes, with graphics that don’t appear to have changed much from the “early build” footage leaked earlier. There are only a few quick-cuts to shots that look like they could possibly be actual gameplay footage. This is with less than two months to go before the game’s March 19 release date.

  • New Walking Dead: Episode 4 Trailer Released

Zombie are everywhere in video games. From stand-alone zombie shooter titles to DLC content packs for just about every major games, zombies are becoming ubiquitous.

But even before the zombie hype train was barreling full-steam-ahead, The Walking Dead comics captured the fomenting zeitgeist and became a phenomenon, spawning a hit AMC TV series and now an episodic adventure video game. The latest episode for that video game, The Walking Dead: Episode 4, will be out soon, and today a preview trailer for the episode was released by Telltale Games.

Over at the PlayStation blog, Gary Whitta, author and writer for Episode 4, introduces his chapter of the story. From the blog post:

As the only writer outside of Telltale Games invited to contribute an episode to this incredible series, I’ve felt a great responsibility for this one to live up to the expectations of Walking Dead fans — particularly after the preceding three episodes have been so incredibly well received. But I think you’re going to like it. I was very fortunate that the overall narrative structure of this first season placed a lot of what I think are the most dramatically intense parts of the story in this chapter. It’s undoubtedly the biggest and most ambitious episode so far in terms of action, and the choices — well, if we’ve done our job right you’re going to hate us for some of the decisions this episode forces you to make. Episode 4 also introduces some brand new characters who should shake things up a bit, including one in particular that I’m very keen for you all to meet. Let’s just say that Lee’s group hasn’t encountered anyone quite like her before now.

From the look of the trailer, seen below, fans of the series will be getting even more gut-wrenching decisions to torment them.

  • The Walking Dead: New Poster Gives Season 3 Peek

Since the premiere of “The Walking Dead” in 2010, most of us attack any news of upcoming shows the way one does a spider in the bathtub. Even if you’ve read the comics and are privy to the basic plotline/character arc, the show is just that damn good. They know how to keep us wanting more, certainly.

That’s not changing anytime soon, as the people behind the show insist on giving us tiny peeks at what the next season will hold for our favorite police officer and his friends and family. Producer Glen Mazzara had this to say about season 3:

“The entire landscape has fallen to zombies,” he said. “The entire world has collapsed, the apocalypse has taken over, the zombies have taken over, there’s no safe place. And I think in the past our characters thought they could find some safe harbor, and now there’s just no good hiding place at all.”

Of course, those familiar with the comics know that this season will bring in two new faces, Michonne and The Governor. For those not familiar…well, you’ll see.

  • Modern Dramas Recut as Vintage Sitcoms

Back in the eighties and nineties corniness was often times mistaken for comedy. Sadly we live a much harsher time. America has grownup. No longer are the days when a well timed pun sent an audience into an uproarious laughter.

Somewhere along the way, we shed our naive optimism. Comedies are darker, based on irony and cruelly making fun of people, and dramas are everywhere. Believable dramas! When I was a kid, MacGyver was doing impossible things with paperclips, and none of it was believable. And when anyone got shot, by God, you knew it fake.

And what ever happened to mixing the drama in with the comedy. Modern TV couldn’t hold a candle to the Fresh Prince when dealing with the heavy issue of gun violence. Forget about drug abuse, Saved by the Bell showed you all you need to know when Jessie took way more caffeine pills than anyone can handle.

If you miss those good ol’ days, don’t fear. This collection of modern TV shows re-edited to look like classic sitcoms will brighten your mood. Starting with The Walking Dead…

The Office isn’t really a drama, but it does point out the huge contrast between comedy in the nineties and today.

  • The Walking Dead Finale Sets Records

The Walking Dead Finale Sets Records

Cable channel AMC brought in huge ratings with the second season finale of its popular zombie apocalypse drama. The episode brought in 9 million viewers which is a 51% increase from the season 1 finale and is a cable ratings record. It’s also a good bit more than the previously record-breaking 8 million people who tuned in for the mid-season premier back in February.

In addition to the inevitable blood and gore, fans of the comic books should be excited by the arrival of a new character, Michonne. The character will be played by actress Danai Gurira and will presumably feature prominently in the next season of the show.

Don’t know what to watch now that The Walking Dead is over for another season? Well, AMC is bringing back Mad Men just in time. Here’s their Walking Dead-inspired trailer to get you excited.

  • The Walking Dead Video Game: Behind the Scenes & Screenshots

What started out as a blip on the zombie-dar with The Walking Dead #1, has now turned into a comic book powerhouse, which in turn has spawned one of the most watched shows on television. Now, the series will be receiving the video game treatment by way of Telltale Games.

We’ve known about the video game adaptation for awhile now, but have had no details to go along with it. This changed when Telltale released their first episode of “Playing Dead“, an episodic behind-the-scenes series diving deeper into The Walking Dead game. You can watch the first episode below.

(Skip to 5:20 if you want to hear about how Robert Kirkman hated Mario Sunshine)

To coincide with their video, they released three brand-spanking new screenshots today, giving us our first look at the game’s art style. Looking pretty good.

As a huge fan of The Walking Dead comic series and a fan of Telltale Games, who were the developers for Sam & Max and Back to the Future: The Game, I’m extremely excited about this. If you played Back to the Future: The Game, you know this company has a knack for telling engaging stories based on known properties and respecting beloved characters. It was one of my favorite games of 2011. Based upon their work, I have high hopes for The Walking Dead game.

While I think the story and characters will be fantastic, I’m a bit skeptical how the studio will handle the inclusion of zombies. Telltale’s point-and-click adventure style games have never really featured urgency and horror-like elements before. I’m trying to wrap my head around how they’ll handle the idea of having to stay away from zombies, and the action based elements that practice includes. Will any of the gameplay involve killing zombies, while trying not to get bit? Or will they reserve all of the action for cutscenes?

Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.

  • The CDC Revisits the Zombie Trend

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aka, the CDC, has already made its preference for the trend of a potential zombie apocalypse known earlier this summer when it released a survival guide, one that subsequently crashed the CDC’s blog.

Now that they’ve apparently addressed whatever server overload issues that plagued that attempt, the CDC is back on the zombie bandwagon, just in time for Halloween. This time, instead of relying on a generic survival guide — hey, the CDC is not above shilling for pageviews — they’ve released an impressively-drawn web comic that plays on popularity of zombies. The comic is presented in the standard PDF format, and, truth be told, after skimming it, the comic is essentially a reminder for people to make an emergency kit, one that prepares people for potential disasters, whether it’s in the form of an all-out zombie attack or, well, bad weather.

Here are a couple of screenshots from the comic, which, regardless of the CDC’s motivation, isn’t that bad:

The CDC also posted a statement, explaining their motivation for the publication:

CDC has a fun new way of teaching the importance of emergency preparedness. Our new graphic novel, “Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic” demonstrates the importance of being prepared in an entertaining way that people of all ages will enjoy. Readers follow Todd, Julie, and their dog Max as a strange new disease begins spreading, turning ordinary people into zombies. Stick around to the end for a surprising twist that will drive home the importance of being prepared for any emergency. Included in the novel is a Preparedness Checklist so that readers can get their family, workplace, or school ready before disaster strikes.

So yeah, the CDC is deftly using zombies as a way to remind others to be prepared. Granted, if a true zombie apocalypse broke out, I’m not sure how much good a CDC-approved disaster preparedness kit would do, unless it was filled with unlimited food, water, and ammo.

Again, you can read the entire web comic in its PDF form here.

If you’re wondering just how effective the CDC would be in the face of a worldwide zombie outbreak, the fantastic television show, The Walking Dead covered that subject rather well during the season one finale, which is the resource of the lead image. AMC, the channel responsible for the show, has a “webisode” of how the CDC would fare:

That’s not very encouraging, considering only one of the CDC’s researchers survived. Meanwhile, outside of the building looked something like this:

In other words, if a worldwide zombie outbreak actually does hit, we’re all pretty much screwed. Sure, some would survive, but most of us would either wind up as one of the walking dead or we would get eaten. Who knows? Maybe the disaster kit would give you a few more days worth of survival, so there’s that.

  • Walking Dead, Bing Offer Walk-On Zombie Role

Sunday night was the big premiere of season 2 of AMC’s hit zombie survival show The Walking Dead, based on the brilliant graphic series created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.

Although season 2 is already a wrap, it looks like you might have a chance to play a small role in season 3 – as a zombie.

AMC has teamed up with Bing for the Walking Dead Sweepstakes, a contest to give one lucky person a chance to test out their limb-dragging, entrails-eating, vacant-expression skills with a walk-on role. The prize includes a trip for two to the set of The Walking Dead season 3, roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, and $500 cash.

Only the winner (not the guest) will win the part on the show. He/she will be “transformed into the flesh-eating dead by Greg Nicotero’s creature team,” and if you’ve seen the show, you know what awesome zombie-creators those guys are.

Did you guys watch the season 3 premiere? What did you think? Personally, I thought that it was great, and definitely sets up the possibility for an incredible season (and this is coming from a guy who was disappointed by season 1). Will it fill the Breaking Bad-sized void in my life? That remains to be seen, but I’m undoubtedly impressed.

  • The Walking Dead Comes to Netflix

Netflix and AMC already had a partnership in place, but reports indicate that the two have expanded upon it to give Netflix members access to the hit zombie TV show The Walking Dead.

Season 2 starts on Sunday October 16, but don’t expect to watch new episodes on Netflix. According to MarketWatch, the deal only allows Netflix to stream previous seasons. Past seasons will be made available right before new seasons air.

In other words, if you want to watch Season 2 on Netflix, you’re going to have to wait until AMC gets ready to air the season after that.

Of course, there are other viewing options for the upcoming season. You can watch it AMC itself or download episodes from Amazon or iTunes. New episodes are available the day after broadcast. It will cost you about $3 bucks for an episode on iTunes though (at least that’s what they’re still charging for Season 1.

    Here’s a trailer for Season 2:

As previously reported, AMC is also making webisodes available leading up to the launch of Season 2:

Netflix recently revealed that 50 – 60% of viewing on Netflix is TV episodes.

  • The Walking Dead Webisodes To Launch Before Season 2 Premiere

AMC’s hit zombie series The Walking Dead returns in October and I must say that I’m pretty excited. “Pretty,” because a.) I wasn’t too thrilled with the way the first season ended, although I understand that it was a shortened season and they had to make do, and b.) I’m way too enthralled in the final episodes of Breaking Bad to even think about another TV show right now.

But as soon as Breaking Bad wraps up for the season, I’ll be all-the-way thrilled. Zombie survival scenarios just continue to amuse me, no matter how many I watch or read.

If you are a big Walking Dead fan, you’ll be happy to know that AMC has produced a series of webisodes set to launch two weeks before the season 2 premiere.

According to AMC, the webisodes will tell the story of Hannah, the poor, crawling half-zombie that Rick kills out of pity at the end of the pilot episode. From their blog

The webisodes will give fans the opportunity to explore the back story of Hannah (Lilli Birdsell), better known as “Bicycle Girl,” the infamous zombie from Season 1, who was shot by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in the pilot episode and who is one of the most celebrated “walkers” from last season. Fans will learn about Hannah’s life before the apocalypse, her struggle to survive and protect her family as the world begins to fall apart, and her ultimate demise into zombie-hood.

The web series will consists of 6 episodes that will all be available at the same time. They will launch on October 3rd at 2 pm EST.

To get you excited, here’s the latest trailer for the upcoming season 2 –

And just for fun, here’s one of the best scenes from season 1. You know how to fool a zombie, right? If you don’t, you’ll know after this (gross as hell) clip –

Season 2 will debut on October 16th at 9 pm EST with a 90-minute episode. Unfortunately, it will be split up into two parts – 6 more episodes following the premiere and then a break, followed by 6 episodes beginning on February 12th.
