Minnesota Vikings Running back Adrian Peterson took a hit that injured his ankle in the Sunday game against Baltimore. Linebacker Arthur Brown caused the tackle.

The fact that he was taken off the field so that doctors could get an immediate MRI wasn’t encouraging news. He did walk from the locker room to the x-ray room on his own though.

Peterson was injured after a tackle on a third-down reception from quarterback Matt Cassel. In obvious pain, Peterson was helped off the field. He was then carted to the locker room after a team of doctors examined the injured leg on the sideline.

Peterson had carried 13 yards on seven plays before the injury.

Minnesota announced that Peterson will not return, and reports indicate that the severity of his ankle injury is unknown at this point.

This isn’t the first injury superstar Adrian Peterson has suffered – many fans remember the late 2011 season when a major knee injury took him out in week 15, but he returned to lead the league with 2,097 rushing yards last season. His 2013 season was off to a great start with 1,208 yards under his belt during the first 12 games of the season.

He entered Sunday’s game with a 120-yard lead on LeSean McCoy for the rushing title.
