Disney has perfect timing when it comes to releasing their films. What better way to spend a cold and snowy weekend than watching a wintery animated film with your family? Frozen has beat out the Hunger Games: Catching Fire for its top spot in theaters and earned $31.6 million in weekend ticket sales.

Frozen is about two magical sisters that must team up to save their kingdom from destruction. They fight a variety of creatures and the elements in order to restore order to their world. Along the way, they learn the importance of teamwork and discover things about themselves and each other that they never thought possible.

There are no other children’s films out in theaters right now, making Frozen that much more appealing to families with young children. Like most Disney films, Frozen has a great storyline and has just the right amount of jokes and heartwarming moments.

Frozen came in at a close second to Catching Fire last weekend but managed to pull ahead to take the lead this weekend. Catching Fire came in at second with $27 million in weekend sales. Overall, Frozen has made $190.2 million globally since its Nov. 22 debut and even beat the previous record for the five-day holiday set by “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in 2001.
