A SWAT team has joined police in the hunt for a gunman who is allegedly loose on Yale’s campus.
New Haven Police received an anonymous call from a phone booth this morning about a person with a gun roaming around campus. Around eleven a.m., police announced they were chasing a possible suspect down High Street and had potentially found the person who called about the threat. As of now, the campus is on lockdown, and Yale officials are asking anyone off campus to stay away. According to their emergency site:
βNew Haven Police have received an anonymous call from a phone booth in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue (between Howard Avenue and Hallock Street) reporting a person on the Yale Campus with a gun. There have been NOT confirmations or sightings of this person. Yale and New Haven police are in the area. If you have information, please call 911 immediately. Yale Police advises those on campus to remain in their current location and shelter in place until there is additional information.β
Members of the ATF have now joined officers on a hunt for the gunman and several streets have been closed down to aid their efforts. Officials say no one has fired a gun at this time.
We will update this story as it develops.
