Yahoo announced today that it is rolling out a new design for its search results pages in the U.S. This includes a somewhat Google-like navigation bar.

Here’s the before:

“When it comes to search, nothing should stand between you and your results,” says Laurie Mann, Yahoo’s SVP, Search. “That’s why we’ve placed search results higher on the page. And thanks to some under-the-hood performance improvements, many of you will notice that the page also loads faster.”

“And, if you’re thinking that the new Yahoo! search results page looks familiar, there’s a good reason why – the design is consistent with our new Yahoo! homepage,” adds Mann.

You might also think the navigation bar looks familiar because, while it’s not black, it looks a great deal like Google’s, which appears across multiple Google properties. Yahoo is going for a similar approach. The company says over time it will also be rolling out that navigation bar across more of its own properties.

I wonder if that will include Tumblr. If they follow the Google example, probably not. Interestingly, though Google has owned it since 2006, YouTube still does not have the Google navigation bar, despite increased connection over the years to Google profiles.

Update: A Yahoo spokesperson tells us, “Since the acquisition hasn’t closed, we’re not in a position to comment on Tumblr’s plans.”
