Twitter Goes Down, Subway Cookies Take The Punishment

Twitter has been experiencing some downtime today. The company acknowledged site issues on its Status Blog, and shortly thereafter posted an update, indicating that the problem was resolved:

Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.

Update: The issue has been resolved and all services are currently operational.

However, the site seems to be having issues again. Between downtimes, we noticed quite a few people were talking about it on Twitter. They were saying things like:

I was going to embed some more tweets about what people were saying, but since I can no longer access Twitter, that’s a bit hard to accomplish. Perhaps I’ll update with more in a bit.

I did notice quite a few people indicating how lost they are on the Internet without Twitter. Some didn’t seem to know what to do next. Some just deemed the web boring without Twitter.

An AFP article quoted one user as saying, “Twitter broke, my life has no meaning anymore.”

I don’t know about that, but I’m sure businesses relying on Twitter aren’t very enthusiastic about the situation. We’re not even seeing a Fail Whale to remind us how cute it is when Twitter has outages.

Update: It seems to be back in working order. So, as promised, here’s some more reaction from Twitter:

Update 2: Looks like it’s down again.
