Round two of the battle rounds for Season 6 of The Voice is tonight.
Last night’s first round did not disappoint — neither in the performances, nor in the bromance between coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
First came the weeks of blind auditions when the four coaches vied for performers for their team. Now comes the battle rounds. Each battle has two teammates performing a duet assigned by their coach. After the performance, the coach has to determine which performer stays and which goes home. However, each coach has two “steals” they can use to save a contestant and to bolster their team.
During rehearsals for last night’s performances, the artists received help from guest advisers. Adam Levine called on Wake Me Up singer, Aloe Blacc, to help his team prepare; The Band Perry assisted Blake Shelton‘s performers; Blake’s wife, Miranda Lambert, joined Shakira to mold the contestants; and R&B diva, Jill Scott, coached Usher‘s team.
Biff Gore and T.J. Wilkins, of Team Usher, were the first to battle it out, singing The Temptations classic Ain’t Too Proud To Beg. Usher said it was a difficult decision to make, but he decided to keep T.J. However, Biff was not sent home, as Blake made his first steal of the battle rounds.
Two 17-year-old performers from Team Blake were up next. Jake Worthington and Lexi Luca performed Thomas Rhett’s It Goes Like This, with Jake clearly winning over Lexi with his confident performance.
Shakira said she may have made a mistake in pairing up powerful performers Dani Moz and DeShawn Washington with the song, My Kind of Love, by Emeli Sandé. After a stellar performance by both singers, Dani was named the winner and DeShawn was sent home.
Kat Perkins and Patrick Thompson, from Team Adam, performed the Kenny Loggins/Stevie Nicks duet Whenever I Call You ‘Friend.’ Saying that Kat had a presence about her, Adam picked the ex-rocker. But, just as Patrick was to leave, Shakira stole him for her team.
Blake paired veteran singers, Paula DeAnda, who once toured with Rihanna, and Sisaundra Lewis, a former vocal director for Celine Dion, and they performed Lady Gaga‘s Do What U Want. After a powerful performance, Blake said he was proud of both of them, but sent Paula on her way.
The highlight of Monday’s battle round was a performance of Steve Winwood‘s Higher Love by Team Usher’s Jake Barker and Stevie Jo. Adam was so impressed with the performance that told the duo to relax because he intended to steal the runner-up. Usher struggled over the decision, but selected Stevie Jo. Adam, Shakira and Blake all pushed their buttons to steal Jake and hilariously made bids to beg the singer to join their team. In the end, Jake chose Adam.
As always, the banter between Adam and Blake was entertainment enough.
.@adamlevine I don't see you making fun of @shakira!! That's it. I'm publicly announcing our feud.
