The post-apocalyptic setting is so passé these days. It seems that everybody and their dog wants to get in on the action with very few games (i.e. The Last Of Us, Fallout: New Vegas) actually getting it right. Now a team of established industry veterans wants to take a stab at the genre, and they need your help to do it.
Hinterland, a development team made up of former BioWare, Ubisoft Montreal, Volition and Riot Games developers, revealed The Long Dark earlier this month. The game is billed as a post-apocalyptic survival game set in the Northern wilderness. The focus is strictly on survival as players will have to navigate a frigid wasteland looking for supplies and warmth to stay alive.
The Long Dark isn’t just about survival though. The game will ask players to make tough moral choices in the name of survival. It will also task players to find out the cause behind the global disaster.
The developers are promising quite a bit, but it’s always a little dubious to back something when there’s no gameplay to show for it. It seems the folks at Hinterland understand this, and have provided almost five minutes of prototype gameplay footage to show what they’re trying to achieve with The Long Dark.
If the above video has you interested, you can back The Long Dark on Kickstarter today. There’s eight days left with the team having raised $118,000 of the $200,000 they’re asking for.
