The Guy Who Made Korn And Slipknot Encourages Music Theft On Twitter

Record producer Ross Robinson, who is known for producing albums from bands like Korn, Slipknot, The Deftones, The Cure, At The Drive-In, and even Vanilla Ice, weighed in on the everlasting music piracy discussion over the weekend.

I call Robinson the guy who made Korn and Slipknot, because his groundbreaking production style was quite evident on each band’s (major) debut, and I believe many would agree, played a significant role in their popularity. Technically, the albums he produced were also titled, “Korn,” and “Slipknot,” respectively.

Robinson took to Twitter to say:

David Lowery, who writes for the metal blog Metal Sucks, first wrote about Robinson’s tweets. He makes an interesting point about them, saying, “Robinson gets paid for his work before a record even comes out. This happens regardless of whether the record does well or not, and regardless if the bands ever see a dime from album sales. And the funds to hire him for future projects would most certainly be in jeopardy if labels don’t make money selling music. Biting the hand that feeds?”

The controversial subject of “stealing” music is one that has been around for ages at this point. It’s been in the news a lot over the past week or so, since an NPR intern admitted in a blog post, that much of her music was not paid for.

It’s interesting to see a famed producer support free music.
