Taylor Swift Wins Big, Avoids Awkward Moment At AMAs

Taylor Swift has the unique distinction of being both a pop/country superstar and the ex-girlfriend of more celebrities than I can count on both hands. Naturally, there’s going to be some awkwardness at awards shows, when everyone shows up and are forced to sit in the same room together.

But Swift–who won big at the American Music Awards this year–managed to keep the awkwardness to a minimum by avoiding ex Harry Styles and One Direction the entire night, making a point to steer clear of them even while chatting with several other stars and dancing along with the performances by Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. She did, however, walk by the band a couple of times on her way back to her seat, but reportedly never even looked their way.

Swift has had ill-fated romances with several stars in and out of the music world, and said in a recent issue of New York Magazine that she spoke with one ex about her album “Red” when he realized most of it was about him.

“He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude,” she said.

Swift won four awards at the show, including Artist of the Year, and took the podium to address the crowd, saying she was amazed at what her fans had done for her.

“‘Red’ is very different than any album I’ve made before and the reason I was able to do that was because of the fans,” Swift said. “I cannot believe what you’ve done in the last year. This album came out almost exactly a year ago and the fact that 6 million of you went out and bought it is crazy.”
