  • Before You Damn The Universe, Just Remember It’s Out There – On Twitter

I’m sure, that after some Rube-Goldberg-esque series of events causes you to be late for work, the first thought that might run through your head is “Why is the universe conspiring against me?”

Or, you may thank the universe for giving you something that you desire. Mostly it’s going to be cursing, though.

Just know that before you take to Twitter to assign any sort of power to the universe – it’s out there and it may respond to you.

Novelty accounts on Twitter are pretty hit or miss. I’d say that this one is a hit.

Some guy has decided that he’s going to answer the call of all the people who blame, praise, or simply mention “the universe” in a tweet. I present to you, THE UNIVERSE:

  • Penn State, Dawson’s Creek, and the ESPYs

Twitter is a wonderful place for one-liners. To be funny on the site, you’ve got to be sharp and practice economy of language. You’ve only got 140 characters to make an impression.

And what better way to wind-down the work day than with a selection of some of the day’s most entertaining tweets.

    Enjoy!

  • Arrested Development “ALIVE” Says Ron Howard, And It Looks Like They Have A Lot Of Ideas

It seems like forever ago that we heard the news we’ve all been waiting forever to hear: Arrested Development is back, baby! Well, it’s coming back…in time. Oh hell, they’re making new episodes everybody just shut up and be patient.

About six months passed before we heard the even-better news. Not only will the new season of the show debut on Netflix, but all ten episodes will be hitting Netflix at the same time. No waiting week-to-week, no Bluthian cliffhangers – just one giant marathon of new episodes for your viewing pleasure. Perfect.

Show creator Mitch Hurwitz spilled that information on the new season at a broadcasters’ convention in Las Vegas. He also talked about the structure of the show, and how production was set to kick off this summer.

Well, it’s the summer. And where is the production you say?

All I can give you is news that the writers are hard at work. Really hard at work judging by the amount of post-its blanketing the writer’s room.

That’s because Ron Howard, who you may know as the show’s narrator (among other things), tweeted this on Tuesday evening:

    Awesome.

And please don’t forget – a movie is also on the way.

  • Twitter, MediaTek Team Up To Get Feature Phone Owners Tweeting

Twitter is about to reach more feature phone users, thanks to a partnership with chip maker MediaTek.

The two companies just announced that Twitter will now be “integrated into MediaTek’s mobile platform solutions,” which will bring Twitter functionality to more “smart feature phones” across the world.

MediaTek will preload the Twitter application in its MRE middleware as the default feature in its reference design for mobile handsets. Mobile manufacturers and brands can expect to reduce the time-to-market and to develop product differentiation for their consumers. With MRE, smart-feature phones will be able to run Twitter on minimal memory and hardware requirements, allowing manufacturers and brands to offer price-friendly devices with value-added mobile internet services.

People with smart-feature phones will be able to experience a rich native application experience of Twitter consistent with smartphone applications like Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android.

Basically, it will be an incentive for manufacturers to push Twitter-ready devices.

Facebook actually made a similar deal back in 2011.

“The mobile Internet presents a great opportunity for Twitter to reach every person on the planet. Our partnership with MediaTek will help people in emerging markets enjoy the same rich Twitter experience on their mobile devices as more than 140 million others around the world,” says Jana Messerschmidt, Vice President of Business Development at Twitter.

The MediaTek MT6255 chip will be the first embedded with Twitter. They say that it will be coming to all of their mobiel platforms sometime in the near future.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson Live-Tweets The MLB All-Star Game With Predictably Awesome Results

Neil deGrasse Tyson is about the only truly famous astrophysicist we have these days, but boy has he taken off like a rocket (pun most definitely intended). Through countless televisions appearances and a strong online presence, the Hayden Planetarium director has gained quite the pop culture status.

Science is fascinating, fun, and invaluable. That’s what I take from Neil deGrasse Tyson.

As a fan of Tyson, you can imagine my delight when I noticed that he was about to live-tweet Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star game:

So, let’s take a baseball journey – through the eyes of an astrophysicist…

This was probably the best thing on Twitter in quite some time. I hope that he makes a habit of this. I’d love to see the Super Bowl, The Masters, the NBA Finals, and even a Tennis tournament here and there through his eyes.

  • Twitter Updates Its Mobile Apps With More Desktop Features

The problem with developing mobile apps is that you have to add all the great features from the desktop version while preserving the mobile nature of said app. Various developers have tried and failed when adding new features to their mobile apps, but the latest update to Twitter’s mobile app seems to get it right.

Twitter has been upgraded to version 4.3 on iOS and 3.3 on Android to bring you, the Tweeters, the latest and greatest innovations in mobile tweet technology. What you will see on display here are the efforts of Twitter’s development team bringing more of the desktop experience to the mobile handsets that dominate more and more of our lives.

First up is an addition that I personally have been wanting for a while now – expanded Tweets. You may have noticed that the desktop version of Twitter allows you to watch YouTube videos linked within Tweets inside the tweet itself. That feature is now available on the mobile app so you don’t have to open a separate app to get to the video, article or image that get Tweeted out.

    Twitter Updates Mobile Apps

Search autocomplete has received a revamp that sees more results displayed while you’re searching for that special somebody on Twitter. Search still supports real names and @usernames so you never have to use one or the other to get the results you want.

Humorously enough, Twitter has added a feature that I never knew I wanted until now. The app will now push notifications to your phone whenever somebody in particular Tweets. If you must get every Tweet from your favorite Twitter personality delivered straight to your phone, this is the place to do it. Just turn on push notifications for Tweets on any user profile’s action button and you’re good to go.

As a little added bonus, Twitter for iPhone is getting access to Twitter Events. It’s a super cool feature that allows you to search for something, like say #NASCAR, during an event and you will receive all the major updates live from the event. Considering that Twitter users break the news more often mainstream media, it would be a great idea to use it for events like the Olympics this summer.

You can grab the new Twitter app from both the App Store and Google Play.

  • Here’s Why Justin Bieber Is Never Going To Reply To Your Tweets

Holy crap, Justin Bieber is popular on Twitter. He’s the second most-followed person on the entire network with just over 24.6 million followers – second only to Lady Gaga and her army of 26.7 million little monsters. But anyone who has spent even a little bit of time on Twitter knows that the Beliebers are quite the enthusiastic bunch. I mean, nobody can hijack a trending topics list quite like excited Justin Bieber fans.

Even though I knew all of this, nothing could prepare me for what you’re about to see. YouTube user Mateo12485 appears to have used Tweetdeck to show us exactly how rabid Bieber fans really are. All that had to be done was to set up a stream of @ mentions for Justin Bieber, wait for him to tweet something, and sit back in abject horror.

Check out the absolute insanity below:

    Shocking, right?

I wondered if the sheer quantity meant that anyone with an eleven-digit followers count would see this kind of reply activity. I set up the Bieber @ stream next to the Gaga @ stream and the pace of each wasn’t even close. Tweets were flying in to Beiber at an insane rate – about ten times the rate of Lady Gaga mentions (based on my best estimate). To be fair, Bieber had tweeted more recently than Gaga, but the disparity was staggering.

I guess Bieber fans really are the most crazy passionate fans in the world

“@justinbieber Just waiting for the day you’ll notice and follow me,” read one tweet, flashing before my eyes for a brief moment before being swallowed up by dozens more. Yes. Good luck with that.
