  • Boy, 3, Wrecks Aunt’s Jeep, Runs Home

A Myrtle Creek, Oregon toddler crashed his aunt’s Jeep into a home after knocking it out of gear. The three-year-old boy then ran home to watch cartoons.

At about 7 p.m. Thursday, a Myrtle Creek police officer had noticed the boy alone in the Jeep, and approached him after not seeing any adults in the vicinity. The boy told the officer that his parents weren’t home, and that his babysitter, identified as 22-year-old Brennan Pennington, was asleep at the boy’s residence. The officer contacted Pennington, and warned her that the boy had access to the keys to the vehicle, and was able to unlock it.

At around 7:30 p.m., police were called back to the scene, after a neighbor reported witnessing the Jeep crashing into a house.

Authorities said the three-year-old again commandeered the vehicle, and knocked it out of gear. Witnesses watched the Jeep roll down the street through an intersection, hop a curb, roll through a yard and crash into a house.

Here is a recording of the 911 call a neighbor made after he witnessed the incident with the Jeep:

After the wreck, the diaper-clad boy hopped out of the Jeep and scampered home, according to Myrtle Creek police.

A police officer found the boy nonchalantly watching cartoons in his house, “as if nothing had ever happened.”

The boy’s aunt and owner of the Jeep, Amy Mayberry, refuted the police report that the toddler ever had the keys, and claimed that Pennington was in the bathroom during the time of the incident, and not passed out. Pennington was cited for failing to supervise a child, and the family of the toddler made a civil compromise with the owner of the damaged house.

No one was injured in the incident.

  • ‘Secondary Drowning’ Nearly Kills Toddler

On May 20, Lindsay Kujawa shared a blog post with her followers on her blog titled Delighted Momma.

Her post instantly went viral and has been read by thousands of mothers. So, what made this post so interesting? The topic.

Lindsay shared one of the worst experiences of her life, when her son nearly died from secondary drowning.

Lindsay and her two-year-old son Ronin were attending her niece’s birthday party in mid May. The party was a pool party and everyone was outside enjoying the nice weather. Ronin was sitting on the top step of the swirling spa, and Lindsay was sitting on the edge, not even a foot away from him.

Kujawa explained that she moved to shift her sitting position, and took her eyes off of Ronin for less than five seconds. In those few seconds, Ronin managed to somehow fall into the water. Lindsay was instantly at Ronin’s side and pulled him to safety, and said all she could think was “please let him be okay.” She explained that Ronin cried for less than a minute and then seemed fine.

However, upon returning to their home, Lindsay started noticing Ronin acting differently. “You know what your child is like when he’s tired and this was totally different,” she told Today. “This was beyond tired and I just felt he wasn’t right. Even when Ronin is tired, he’s cranky. But he didn’t have a lot of emotion.”

Ronin was showing strange symptoms including a “weird cough that made him tense up every time he exerted the effort.” Kujawa knew in her gut that something was wrong and called Ronin’s pediatrician who sternly told her to take Ronin to the emergency room immediately because he could have been suffering from secondary drowning.

Lindsay did as she was told and took Ronin to the ER where they performed a chest X-ray. After reviewing the X-ray, the doctors noticed fluid in Ronin’s lungs. Due to the severity of Ronin’s accident, the doctors made the decision to send him to the Children’s Hospital in San Diego. On the way there, Ronin’s oxygen levels started dropping, and he had to have an oxygen mask placed on his face.

Upon arriving at the Children’s Hospital, more chest X-rays were done on Ronin and he was monitored closely. The next day, the doctors came in and told Lindsay that she had done everything right and this just happened to be a freak accident. The doctor explained that the water in Ronin’s chest was clearing, and that he would be discharged the next day.

Luckily, Ronin survived this terrible accident. However, some are not as lucky. While most know what drowning is, many have no idea what the definition of secondary drowning is. It is hard to notice because the child seems to act fine after the initial accident.

“In secondary drowning the water may fill up some of the oxygen rich pores of the lungs, which reduces the ability to oxygenate blood as it passes through,” Lindsay’s blog post read. “The heart does not slow down significantly with this process but rather very very slowly so your child will still be able to talk and walk. The only symptoms may be a sudden change in personality or level of awareness (just like Ronin experienced) as the blood oxygen level drops over time.”

If you fear that your child is suffering from secondary drowning, here are some symptoms to look for:
    •Lethargy
•Coughing after the event is over
•The child is not acting like himself
•A change in the color of the lips
    •A change in breathing

If you notice these symptoms after your child has had a near drowning experience, doctors urge you to take your child to the emergency room immediately.

  • SWAT Team Throws Flash Grenade Into Child’s Crib

One of the initial phases to insure a properly executed raid is to collect as much data on the purported location and its targets:

☒ Do methamphetamine transactions take place here?

☒ Does the owner have guns?

    ☐ Are there any children?

At Lakeview Heights Circle in Habersham County, Georgia, Cornelia police conducted a no-knock raid for a drug warrant on the house of meth dealer Wanis Thometheva. According to Sheriff Joey Terrell, the SWAT unit first inserted a flash bang into the home and then pushed the door open. The flash bang exploded inside a playpen blocking the door, next to the face of 19-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh, WSBTV first reported.

“He is in a medically induced coma and he is paralyzed. I hope he’s not going to remember this. I know his sisters, his mommy and his daddy will never forget this,” the boy’s mother, Alecia Phonesavanh, said.

“It landed in his playpen and exploded on his pillow right in his face.”

The SWAT team, feeling remorseful due to some of them being parents themselves, had no idea that the house included the toddler; there has been no word on whether a thorough background check was initiated before the raid.

“There were no clothes, there were no toys, there was nothing to indicate that there was children present in the home. If there had been, then we would have done something different,” said Sheriff Joey Terrell.

The family of the child recently moved into Wanis Thometheva’s home because their house in Wisconsin burned to the ground. Terell noted that the family knew Thometheva was selling methamphetamine in the back of the house, so they kept the child in the main entrance, away from the transactions.

The child is now in Grady’s burn unit. Phonesavanh said the outlook for her son is bleak, with a 50% chance of living:

“The nurse explained it to me. His laceration on his chest is pretty deep, down to the muscle. They can’t close it up yet because all of the charring from the explosion.”

“He still needs help breathing. He’ll need that help for a while. He has a big bruise on his lung from the impact. His lung is useless right now” Phonesavanh added. “As long as we have faith and he’s got lots of love, love will make anybody strong.”

The family has set up a gofundme site in order to pay for Bounkham’s medical expenses.

Sheriff Joey Terrell assured that next time they’ll double check before a SWAT operation:

“Is it going to make us more careful in the next one? Yes m’am, it’s going to make us double question.” Terrell assured.

Reddit users chimed in on the idea that the police are becoming more and more militarized:

    The DA is currently investigating.

  • Baby 11-Story Fall: Child Survives Fall from Balcony

In what can only be described as a miracle, a baby survived an 11-story fall from the balcony of an apartment building in Minneapolis. Fifteen-month-old Musa Dayib is believed to have slipped through the rails of his family’s apartment balcony, where he plunged around 100 feet to the ground. While such a fall would have a very different outcome in most cases, Musa survived and is expected to recover.

The baby fell 11 stories to the ground on Sunday night. His father, Guled Ahmed, was reportedly grabbing something from the kitchen when his daughter saw Musa lying on the ground and told her dad that the baby fell. After Ahmed ran downstairs, he found his son on the ground in a pile of mulch, still breathing and just inches from a sidewalk.

Check out the photo of the apartment building below to get an idea of just how far the child fell.

The baby that survived the 11-story fall is recovering in the hospital. Even though young Musa has a concussion and several broken bones and is in critical condition, he is expected to recover.

“Little (kids) are more flexible and don’t break as easily as we do and he also fell in a very small patch of mulch,” Dr. Tina Slusher said, explaining why Musa could survive a fall that would kill most people. “It’s definitely a miracle. It’s God’s gift to his family. Kids don’t fall this far and make it often. Especially without a serious brain injury. You or I would’ve been dead.”

See a picture of Musa in the hospital below.

Even though the 11-story fall could have certainly had a much different ending for the baby, it is possible that the accident could have been avoided had the owners of the Riverside Plaza apartment building updated the building’s balconies during a recent renovation. The balcony rails were spaced 5.5 inches apart; the current state building code for rail spacing is 4 inches apart. The rails on the Riverside Plaza balconies met code when it was constructed, and the state of Minnesota doesn’t require building owners to make changes when the code is updated.

“I don’t think my brother and his wife will recover from this. They really torture themselves,” said Abdirahim Ahmed, Guled’s brother. “How can we protect the kids that stay in here? Something gotta be done. Something gotta be done.”

George Sherman, the the president of the company that manages Riverside Plaza, said that they plan to put more safety features in place to hopefully avoid future accidents. “(We are) looking at more permanent locks that the fire department approves,” Sherman said.

  • Toddler Found With Heroin In His Jacket

Toddler Found With Heroin In His Jacket

Workers at a child-care center called Michael’s Energy Center in Paterson, New Jersey made a shocking discovery when they went to help a two-year-old take off his coat.

Inside the little boy’s jacket was 48 packets of heroin that had been stashed there by his father. The worker immediately called the police and informed them about the heroin and explained that the boy’s father had been the one to bring him in to daycare that day.

The father was revealed as Phillip Young, 27, and was arrested on Monday. He is currently being held on $85,000 bail, according to Paterson Police Lieutenant Bert Ribeiro. Young is currently being charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Police do not think that the child knew the drugs were in his jacket.

Parents of other children that were attending the daycare were outraged that the health and safety of their children had been compromised by Young’s ignorant act. They were also frustrated that the daycare center did not immediately tell them what had happened, and most of them had to find out from the news.

“My daughter picks stuff up off the floor and puts it in her mouth thinking it’s candy,” a parent told reporters. “The same thing could have happened here. It’s sad that we didn’t even get one phone call to let know what’s going on,” the mother continued. “I have the right to know.”

  • Toddler: Heroin Found By Daycare Workers In Coat

Of all the things a daycare worker was expecting to find in a toddler’s jacket, heroin was quite possibly the last thing.

On Monday things took a turn for the unexpected after an employee at a child care center in Patterson, New Jersey found an astonishing 48 packets of heroin in a toddler’s coat.

Paterson Police Lieutenant Bert Ribeiro said the startled individual soon after called the police. After a bit of investigating, it was determined by law enforcement officials that the father had brought the two-year-old to the daycare center.

The boy’s father has since been identified as Phillip Young. The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

According to police, there is no indication that the child was ever aware that there were drugs in his jacket. It’s fortunate that the young child managed to avoid taking the drugs and causing himself potentially fatal harm.

The toddler’s father is currently being held on $85,000 bail.

As unfortunate as this case is, it’s not the only known incident of drugs being found in a situation that could have jeopardized children.

In January of this year, two different McDonald’s employees were busted using Happy Meals as a means of getting heroin to customers. One woman, Shania Dennis, had even instructed her customers to get the drugs by asking for a toy. Imagine the surprise on a parent’s face if they unintentionally found themselves purchasing smack when all they really wanted was the latest Mattel toy for their kid.

What’s especially startling about the incidents being around children or items sold to children is that there is a lethal batch of heroin being sold in the area. Nearly a dozen people have been reported to have died due to the mixture of drugs.

In the case of the heroin found on the toddler at the New Jersey daycare, it is not yet known if the batch has any connection to the dangerous fentanyl-laced heroin that has been sold in the region.

  • Cursing Toddler Video Shocks the Web

Cursing Toddler Video Shocks the Web

If you have kids, you know all too well about how tough it can be to control your language sometimes. While most parents or caregivers are actively trying to watch their language so the little ones don’t pick up any bad words, a video has surfaced that shows a toddler being encouraged to curse. Not only does the diapered youngster drop quite a few select words, he has mastered the art of using his middle finger as well. The child has since been removed from the home, but sadly, the bad language only scratches the surface of the toddler’s troubled life.

The cursing toddler video went viral after it was posted to the Omaha Police Officers Association website under the title The Thug Cycle. The video was found on Facebook and the OPOA notes that they shared the video because they “have an obligation to share it to continue to educate the law abiding public about the terrible cycle of violence and thuggery that some young innocent children find themselves helplessly trapped in.”

Check out the uncensored video of the cursing toddler below. Since the video contains a lot of profanities, make sure you don’t have the volume up if you’re at work or around kids.

Authorities in Omaha, Nebraska reportedly took the cursing toddler and two other children from their home on Wednesday, and from the sound of things, the bad language is the least of the child’s troubles. The family is associated with gangs and the toddler was hit by shrapnel from a gun fired in the home back in October.

The toddler has a 16-year-old mother, and both of his grandparents have been locked up. Ennis Devers, Sr., the grandfather, is in prison on drug and gun charges. Kim Devers, the grandmother, was arrested in December on a weapons charge. The children were left in the care of a 19-year-old, but were removed from the home after the teen complained to the caseworker and the video went viral.

Mugshots of the grandparents the OPOA posted to their Facebook page are below.

  • Parents Force Toddler To Smoke Pot

Police recently confirmed that a pair of New York teenagers, along with the child’s grandfather, have been arrested and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child after they forced a 23-month-old to smoke marijuana.

The Chautauqua County sheriff’s office informed the media that 17-year-old Jessica Kelsey, 18-year-old George Kelsey and Jessica’s 54-year-old father, Don Baker, were taken into custody after they helped, watched, and encouraged the toddler smoke pot from a lighted bowl on December 5. They are currently being held on either $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

The toddler and another sibling are now under the care of Child Protective Services. More information will be revealed as it becomes available.

  • Teen Parents Allow 2-Year-Old Son To Smoke Pot

What is it that drives some people to experiment on defenseless people or animals? How about their own children? An abundant curiosity paired with immense carelessness?

In Mayville, New York, two teenage parents and a grandfather decided it was worth it to force their nearly 2-year-old to smoke marijuana, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported on Friday.

The toddler’s father, George Kelsey, 18; the mother, Jessica Kelsey, 17; and Jessica’s father, Don Baker, 54, all of Mayfield, were charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said. All three were arrested on warrants, and sent to the Town of Chautauqua Court, NBC station WGRZ of Buffalo reported.

The trio is being held in lieu of an estimated $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Allegedly, on the evening of December 5, the incident occurred in the family’s apartment where three adults “helped, observed or encouraged” the 23-month-old to smoke marijuana from a lighted bowl, The Buffalo News reported. Investigators say there was a party going on at the apartment, and marijuana was being smoked – the Kelseys and Baker were all present when the tot was smoking pot.

Under Sheriff Charles Holder said, “They packed the marijuana pipe, lit it for the baby and gave it to him and encouraged him to inhale…it’s just unbelievable.”

WIVB News 4, learned that the incident may or may not have been videotaped – the sheriff’s office would neither deny or confirm that.

“You have a 23-month-old child who’s completely helpless, can’t really say yes or no, wants to please their parents and grandparent, and this is what you do? There should be some serious consequences,” said Jodie Altman, Executive Director of Renaissance House, which leads the Kids Escaping Drugs program that helps educate children in schools about the dangers of drugs.

“You know, you need a license for everything. But you don’t need a license to be a parent.”

Authorities said that the toddler and another sibling are in the care of Child Protective Services.

  • Madeleine McCann Case Reopened with New Suspect

Portuguese prosecutors have officially reopened the 2007 missing persons case involving British toddler, Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine disappeared from her parent’s hotel room at Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, while her parents were dining at a nearby restaurant in May 2007. She was only three years old, and after further investigation, the case was closed in 2008. Now, after new information surfaced that McCann may still be alive, the police are diving back into the investigation.

Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, posted on their official webpage a statement regarding the reopening of their daughter’s case.

We are very pleased that the investigation to find our missing daughter Madeleine has officially been reopened in Portugal. We hope that this will finally lead to her being found and the discovery of who is responsible for this crime.

We once again urge any member of the public who may have information relating to Madeleine’s abduction to contact the police in Portugal or the UK.

Please be patient and respect the work of the police as they endeavor to find the answers we so desperately need. In particular, we request that the media consider carefully Madeleine’s safety and the integrity of the investigation in their reporting.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

The new suspect that the police are looking into is Euclides Monteiro, also known as Toni. Monteiro was working in the restaurant at the Ocean Club resort at the same time Madeleine went missing. He was later fired from his position for stealing from the resort. The theory is that Monteiro kidnapped Madeleine while robbing her parent’s room, and then killed her after the media picked up on the case.

Monteiro was killed in a tractor accident in 2009, and his wife remains supportive saying she knows he was innocent of the crime.

“It is disgusting they are now looking for a dead man as a scapegoat,” she told the Daily Mirror. “It’s very easy to blame someone who can’t defend themselves any more. My husband would never be capable of committing such a crime.”

The police are continuing to receive calls and further leads into their investigation. If you have any information about Madeleine please email investigation@findmadeleine.com or call the investigation line at +44 845 838 4699.

  • Stick Figure Costume for Toddler Goes Viral [VIDEO]

Still looking for great Halloween costume ideas? You may not be able to pull this one off as adorably as 22-month-old Zoey Hutain, but you will turn some heads at the party if you go with this. One dad in California wasn’t satisfied with putting his toddler in a run-of-the-mill Halloween costume this year, such as a pumpkin or cute animal. Instead, Royce Hutain got creative and made a stick figure costume using LED lights for his daughter Zoey.

Hutain took a video of his daughter in the stick figure costume on the beach and uploaded it to YouTube earlier this week. The video has racked up more than 11 million views so far. Check it out:

One thing is for sure–Zoey and her dad are going to rack up on some candy this Halloween!

Before you ask–no, Hutain isn’t in this for the money, even though some people have asked him to make them similar costumes. “I don’t have the time to try to make money off these things, but it’d be great to be able to show other people how to make them. I’d love to see other videos of other people doing it,” said Hutain.

Hutain has another stick figure costume video on his YouTube account. This one shows two people in the LED stick figure suits snowboarding. We’re pretty sure that Zoey didn’t participate in this one.
