Kirk Cameron: Todd Akin Is “A Very Good Man”

Kirk Cameron, noted Christian and pro-life advocate, recently spoke up for Missouri Congressman Todd Akin regarding the backlash he’s received since using the term “legitimate rape” and making the assertion that a woman’s body has the ability to “shut down” a pregnancy which is the result of rape.

“I’m not his political strategist, thank God,” Cameron said. “But I do know, as I’ve sat to actually watch the video — I’ve learned to actually go watch it and not just read the transcripts and the quotes–and clearly, this is a man who is advocating the sanctity of life, through and through. He said he misspoke, and he apologized for it. I like to evaluate people based on their entire life, their entire career, all they stand for … I believe he’s a very good man. He’s now in a very difficult spot.”

Cameron is making the rounds on talk shows to promote his new documentary, “Monumental”, which is about government and religion and happens to feature Akin. His comments are receiving some backlash of their own, although not nearly as strong as the retaliation created when he spoke up about gay marriage.

  • Piers Morgan And The @AkinEmptyChair Twitter Account

When Piers Morgan invited Republican State Senate candidate Todd Akin to appear on his show last night, he probably had no idea he would soon be involved in the creation of a Twitter account dedicated to an empty chair, but that’s exactly what happened.

After Akin made some rather inflammatory comments regarding “legitimate rape” and the fact that women can shut their bodies down to prevent a subsequent pregnancy, he declined to appear on the show as scheduled, leaving a chair that Morgan and his producers didn’t even try to fill. Morgan later told Akin on-air exactly how he felt about the situation.

“If you don’t keep your promise to appear on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain a gutless little twerp,” Morgan said.

In a cheeky show of humor, Morgan kept a live photo of the empty chair up in the corner of the screen, where Akin would have been had he shown up for the “exclusive” interview. Of course, some wit on Twitter decided to take the joke and run with it, resulting in @AkinsEmptyChair.

The account immediately swept the site, and even Piers himself is backing it:
