When Piers Morgan invited Republican State Senate candidate Todd Akin to appear on his show last night, he probably had no idea he would soon be involved in the creation of a Twitter account dedicated to an empty chair, but that’s exactly what happened.
After Akin made some rather inflammatory comments regarding “legitimate rape” and the fact that women can shut their bodies down to prevent a subsequent pregnancy, he declined to appear on the show as scheduled, leaving a chair that Morgan and his producers didn’t even try to fill. Morgan later told Akin on-air exactly how he felt about the situation.
“If you don’t keep your promise to appear on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain a gutless little twerp,” Morgan said.
In a cheeky show of humor, Morgan kept a live photo of the empty chair up in the corner of the screen, where Akin would have been had he shown up for the “exclusive” interview. Of course, some wit on Twitter decided to take the joke and run with it, resulting in @AkinsEmptyChair.

The account immediately swept the site, and even Piers himself is backing it:
