  • Melissa Joan Hart: ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ Star to Guest Star on ‘Mysteries of Laura’

Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame will soon pop up on a Wednesday night on NBC. The former Nickelodeon star will guest star on an upcoming episode of Debra Messing’s sitcom, The Mysteries of Laura.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Melissa Joan Hart will play the role of an online radio host named KC Moss. KC runs a Serial-esque program that gets in the way of Detective Laura Diamond’s (played by Debra Messing) investigation of a 15-year-old cold case. The character Hart will play is based on Sarah Koenig, the host of the wildly popular Serial podcast.

On Thursday, Hart shared a photo of herself with Debra Messing. In the photo, Melissa Joan Hart sports a shiner.

“Working with this fantastic woman! @therealdebramessing (And no she didn’t give me the shiner) #MysteriesOfLaura #bts,” Hart captions the shot.

Prior to sharing her photo with Debra Messing, Melissa Joan Hart shared this photo, along with a hint for her fans.

“Another hint about the show I’m guest starring on. Any ideas? #MysteriesOfLaura,” she captioned this one.

Melissa Joan Hart currently stars along with Joey Lawrence in Melissa & Joey. The finale for their show wrapped filming in February, however, so this gig on The Mysteries of Laura came about at the perfect time.

Are you a fan of The Mysteries of Laura? Will you be tuning in when Melissa Joan Hart makes her guest appearance on the show?

In addition to Debra Messing, The Mysteries of Laura stars Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins, and Alysia Joy Powell.

Sophia Bush: ‘Chicago PD’ Star Calls Mariska Hargitay ‘Badass’

Sophia Bush of Chicago PD fame has worked on screen with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay in crossover episodes of their respective shows before, but it was during NBC Universal’s 2015 Winter TCA Tour last week that the two met up again.

NBC advertises both Sophia Bush and Mariska Hargitay’s shows–along with The Mysteries of Laura, starring Debra Messing–as ‘woman crush Wednesdays,’ and it’s easy to see why. Each of the three cop shows features a good-looking, really sharp woman at its helm.

The Chicago PD star paid the Law & Order: SVU star quite the compliment while they were together in L.A. last week, however. She referred to Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson on the show) as a ‘badass.’ She shared the comment as the caption of an Instagram post.

“#fbf working with my idol @therealmariskahargitay who is now my friend (whaaaat?!) for the first time on @NBCSVU,” Sophia captioned, adding, “She’s the epitome of a badass. An example. And a courageous heart. #ilovemyjob #gratitude #pinchme #badbitches.”

Sophia Bush is pretty ‘badass’ herself. In her role as Detective Erin Lindsay, she recently transferred from the Chicago Police Department to the FBI. However–and this is a spoiler alert–on Wednesday night’s episode she banged on her father figure, mentor, and former boss Hank Voight’s back door late and night, and asked for her job back.

Fans didn’t expect–or at least they didn’t hope–that Erin Lindsay would stay away from her old stomping grounds for long.

Are you a Chicago PD and/or a Law & Order: SVU fan? Which of these two female detectives–Sophia Bush or Mariska Hargitay–would you call the most ‘badass?’

  • Debra Messing Excited for ‘Will & Grace’ Reunion

Debra Messing excitedly announced via Twitter on Tuesday that a Will & Grace reunion of sorts will take place on her new show, The Mysteries of Laura. Messing starred opposite Eric McCormack in Will & Grace for eight years. McCormack’s upcoming guest appearance on The Mysteries of Laura will mark the first time the two have worked together since the end of Will & Grace–back in 2006.

Messing stars as Detective Laura Diamond in the new series. Her character is a homicide detective with the NYPD. She faces a slew of additional challenges in her personal life since her ex-husband (played by Josh Lucas) is now her boss on the police force, and she must balance work along with raising their young twin sons.

Deadline reports that Eric McCormack will appear on The Mysteries of Laura in the role of Dr. Andrew Devlin–a heart surgeon who is suspected of homicide following the death of his ex-wife. To add fuel to the proverbial fire, Devlin and Diamond were once engaged. Deadline adds that “sparks will fly.”

Debra Messing retweeted the exciting news after Eric McCormack first shared it on Twitter.

Messing also retweeted the excitement of some of her–and McCormack’s–fans.

It hasn’t yet been announced when the episode featuring the sort-of Will & Grace reunion will air on The Mysteries of Laura, but it’s sure to lure lots of the old show’s fans.

    Will you be among them?

  • Debra Messing: No Go in ‘Mysteries of Laura?’

Debra Messing: No Go in ‘Mysteries of Laura?’

Debra Messing is set to star in a new NBC series called The Mysteries of Laura, and the L.A. Times doesn’t seem to think she’s up to speed. A recent report reminds viewers of last year’s most significant NBC offering–The Blacklist, starring James Spader–and the bullseye the network hit with that show. They are comparing Messing and The Mysteries of Laura to ‘grazing the white part around the edge of the target.’

Fans last saw Debra Messing in Smash, and of course everyone loved her in Will & Grace. So what’s not to love about Laura Diamond in The Mysteries of Laura? It seems she’s simply not convincible as a homicide detective.

“It certainly doesn’t help that the show opens with her in hot pursuit of some gun-wielding thug as he races through a very crowded Battery Park. Wearing a raincoat that she will then cling to throughout the episode as if it had been bequeathed to her by Mr. Peter Falk, she mutters “humorous” asides like “why are all these people in the park? Don’t they have jobs?” before pulling a gun and aiming it at said thug, who grabs a hostage. Then she fires Right At Their Heads,” the L.A. Times reports.

It seems The Mysteries of Laura isn’t a sitcom, but Debra Messing is playing Laura Diamond as if it might be. The funny thing is, NBC is playing her character as though she is on par with Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay and Chicago P.D.’s Sophia Bush. Have you seen that ad? Even with the little that viewers have seen thus far of The Mysteries of Laura thus far, the notion simply doesn’t gel.

Are you a Debra Messing fan? Will you be checking out The Mysteries of Laura when it premieres tonight–Wednesday, September 17th on NBC at 10:00 PM? It will be interesting to learn what Thursday’s take will be on the new show.

Hopefully NBC hasn’t banked on this to be this years The Black List.

  • Debra Messing To Star In “The Mysteries Of Laura”

Debra Messing may have finally come across a show that could match the success she found on Will & Grace.

The comedy/drama, which will air on NBC, stars Debra Messing as a successful homicide detective who has to balance her encompassing work with raising twin five-year-old boys as a single mother.

Apparently the drama part of this unusual hybrid is right up Debra Messing‘s alley.

“I have been an avid watcher of what was CourtTV and is now TruTV; live trials because I am fascinated by the judicial system. I am amazed by how extreme human nature can present itself. Life is more than interesting than art most of the time. In my downtime, I watch 48 Hours and Dateline and everything has to do with murder,” she said.

“I know there’s something I should explore about that with my therapist.”

The comedy aspect of The Mysteries of Laura follows Debra Messing’s Laura as she raises her boys, which as a working mother, she can totally relate to.

“There is something incredibly universal about the predicament and the thing that interested me was the specificity of her personal life and the specificity of the job she had to have,” Messing said. “I never felt like we were creating a new wheel in terms of … a woman can work and be a mother at the same time. If anything, the balance of the tone of the drama and the comedy that is going to be the newest adventure and the newest challenge because that we haven’t seen on network TV before.”

There is definitely something universal about how mothers who work can find the time to balance it all! Debra Messing knows that most of us are still trying to figure it all out, and are looking for a little comedic comiseration on screen.

Good luck to Debra Messing in her new show, The Mysteries of Laura! It will begin its run on Wednesday, Sept. 24th at 8/7c on NBC.
