  • Splinter Cell Blacklist Homeland DLC Detailed In Trailer

Splinter Cell Blacklist released earlier this summer to rave reviews with many saying it was a return to form after the past few outings with Sam Fisher proved to be somewhat controversial among fans. One reason for this was the return of a co-op mode that was more like what fans saw in the universally praised Chaos Theory.

Speaking of which, fans who pre-ordered Blacklist were treated to two exclusive co-op maps – Dead Coast and Billionaire’s Yacht. Now those two maps are available to all as part of the Homeland DLC pack.

The DLC pack, which costs $6.99, also comes with four gear pieces, four suits for the Spies vs Mercs multiplayer mode, and one new weapon – a crossbow with sleep gas darts.

The Homeland DLC pack is available now on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.

  • Splinter Cell Blacklist Gets A Launch Trailer

It seems that the year end rush of AAA titles keeps on starting earlier and earlier. Just five years ago, games like Splinter Cell Blacklist would be released in October or November. Now these games are coming out in August and Ubisoft has the unenviable position of advertising a game like Splinter Cell Blacklist while also reminding gamers that it still has Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs coming out later this year.

In its attempt to remind you that Splinter Cell Blacklist exists, Ubisoft has released the final launch trailer for the title before its release on August 20. It hypes up the usual Splinter Cell story about terrorist plots while highlighting the action-packed set pieces that every AAA must have these days.

The trailer doesn’t delve into the series’ traditionally strong multiplayer, but you can find out more about there in our previous coverage. Just know that Ubisoft is bringing back everything that fans loved about the previous games. In fact, critics are loving the game thus far, and are heaping a lot of praise on the multiplayer.

Splinter Cell Blacklist will be available on August 20 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.

  • Splinter Cell Co-Op Preview Released

There’s only one week left until the release of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. In the past two months, Ubisoft has been promoting the game’s single-player gameplay, competitive multiplayer action, and 24-like story.

Blacklist is also seeing the return of co-op gameplay. Sam Fisher will be joined by Isaac Briggs, a fellow Forth Echelon officer, as they hunt down terrorists. The game’s co-op mode was previewed today in a nine-minute video released by Ubisoft. The video features Richard Carrillo, lead game designer on Blacklist, and Ubisoft community developer Zack Cooper as they take on the “Sea Fort” level:

Blacklist hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on August 20 (August 23 in Europe). It is Ubisoft’s final AAA game that will not appear on next-generation consoles.

  • New Splinter Cell Blacklist Trailer Previews Story

It’s a new week, and one week closer to Splinter Cell: Blacklist‘s August 20 release date. That means new trailers and previews for Ubisoft’s final AAA current-generation-only game are coming daily. While many of the trailers have been hyping up the game’s “Spies vs. Mercs” multiplayer mode and seeking to reassure Splinter Cell fans that stealth is still a part of the game, today’s new trailer is all about the story.

Blacklist will see Sam Fisher declare war on a group of terrorists dubbed “The Engineers.” The terrorists are holding the U.S. hostage under threat of weekly terror attacks. The action movie-like story will task Fisher with taking out the bad guys with the help of his Fourth Echelon team while the clock continues to count down toward the next attack.

Just to be clear, Splinter Cell: Blacklist is not (in any official way, at least) associated with the TV program 24.

  • Here’s The Other Half of The Splinter Cell: Blacklist “Spies vs. Mercs” Preview

Yesterday, Ubisoft posted an in-depth look at the multiplayer in its upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Specifically, the video showed around nine minutes of the returning “Spies vs. Mercs” mode from the perspective of a spy.

Today, Ubisoft has released the second half of the detailed look at Blacklist‘s multiplayer. The new video is from the perspective of the mercenaries. Ubisoft developers provide commentary during the ten-minutes of gameplay, showing off how the mercs use their superior firepower, range, and gadgets to hunt down the sneaky spies.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is scheduled for a late August release. It is the last of Ubisoft’s AAA games for the current console generation.

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist’s “Spies vs. Mercs” Multiplayer Detailed in New Video

With the video game industry holding its collective breath for the beginning of a new console generation, the game release schedule for August looks pretty sparse. One major game is coming later in the month, however, and Ubisoft isn’t about to let gamers forget it.

The publisher today released the latest new video for Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The game will see Sam Fisher once again return to wetwork in Ubisoft’s last big current-generation release, aside from Rayman Legends.

Aside from the single-player experience of dispatching terrorists, Blacklist will feature the return of the popular “Spies vs. Mercs” multiplayer mode. The mode was teased in a short trailer one month ago. Today’s trailer shows nearly nine full minutes of Spies vs. Mercs gameplay, with Blacklist developers showing off the spy side of the game. A second video, featuring mercenary gameplay, has been promised.

  • New Splinter Cell Trailer Teases Story Prologue

Though Ubisoft now seems to be focusing on its next-generation console launch titles Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the publisher still has one last current-generation to follow through with. Splinter Cell: Blacklist will hit stores on August 20, marking the end of both summer and Ubisoft’s AAA offerings for the 7th console generation (unless South Park counts).

A trailer blitz is now underway for Blacklist, with new gameplay videos and teasers hitting the web weekly. This week’s new trailer shows off a bit of the story’s prologue, leading up to a potentially deadly cliffhanger. It seems Sam Fisher will once again have to don his Splinter Cell outfit and goggles, this time to fight terrorists for the America. Nevermind the fact that he’s too old for this shit.

The trailer also has some info about the game’s GameStop-exclusive pre-order content. It’s a couple of suits and weapons; a different goggle color; and a co-op mission. It can all be seen at the end of the trailer:

  • Splinter Cell Blacklist Gameplay Video Shows Traversal, Stealth

Based on the trailer Ubisoft used when announcing Splinter Cell Blacklist, gamers could easily be forgiven for thinking the publisher had turned the franchise into some sort of Team America-inspired shooter. Further videos have revealed it’s not quite that bad, though there are definitely some modern action gaming influences that can be seen.

This week’s Blacklist video shows off a six-minute section of gameplay, complete with narration. The demo starts with Sam Fisher traversing a burning building in a very straightforward manner, but quickly shifts to a stealth-based guard-elimination section that will be familiar to Splinter Cell fans. This sequence is short-lived, however, as a “boss chase” sequence (similar to the ones seen in the Assassin’s Creed games) commences soon after. During the chase, Fisher can be seen performing a bullet-time double kill on-the-run:

  • Splinter Cell Blacklist “Spies vs. Mercs” Trailer Released

Splinter Cell: Blacklist has been announced for so long that it’s hard to forget it hasn’t been released yet. Moreover, the game has been overshadowed by other Ubisoft games such as Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, not to mention The Division, the next-gen Tom Clancy-branded game that was announced at E3.

Still, Blacklist is coming out on August 20 and Ubisoft today released another trailer for the stealth-action game. The new video, titled “Spies vs. Mercs Classic” is centered around the Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode. In the 2v2 mode, players will take on the role of one of the two classes, with spies trying to hack terminals and mercs attempting to stop them. Spies operate in 3rd-person view and have stealth abilities. Mercs operate in 1st-person view and have big guns and a flashlight.

  • Sam And Briggs Team Up In Splinter Cell Blacklist Co-Op

Cooperative multiplayer is one of the most cherished modes in Splinter Cell. There’s nothing quite like teaming up with a friend and taking down enemies one-by-one as you sneak through a mission. It’s a good thing then that co-op missions are returning in Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Here’s the official synopsis for the co-op missions:

Head into the field with backup! Play together as Sam and Briggs, through 14 different maps that all feature missions tied to the main storyline. With 4 different mission styles, you and a friend will enjoy extra hours of gameplay.

While we may never see a return of Splinter Cell: Co-Op Theater, the co-op mode in Blacklist may inspire some particularly hilarious Let’s Plays. We can only hope, right?

Splinter Cell Blacklist will be out on August 20 for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U.

  • Spies Vs. Mercs Multiplayer Mode Revealed For Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Ever since Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the stealth franchise has been known for stellar multiplayer. There have been a few missteps in subsequent entries, but the latest entry in the franchise looks to bring some fresh ideas to multiplayer.

In a new trailer released by IGN today, Ubisoft revealed Spies vs. Mercs to be a returning multiplayer mode in Splinter Cell: Blacklist. As the name implies, the new mode will have players taking on the role of spies trying to steal data while those playing as the mercenaries attempt to take them down. It looks similar to Sneaking Mission, a mode of play in Metal Gear Online, that pit one player as Snake against 12 soldiers.

It will be interesting to see how this multiplayer mode works in the Wii U version of Blacklist. Ubisoft has already revealed that it will have unique Gamepad integration, and a gameplay mode like this could make for rather interesting gameplay when combined with the Gamepad.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist launches August 20 for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.

  • Check Out Splinter Cell: Blacklist In Action On The Wii U

Ubisoft recently revealed that it’s bringing this year’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist to the Wii U. The console is definitely hurting for content, and a new Splinter Cell is just the kind of AAA content that the console needs.

Of course, the question now is how Splinter Cell: Blacklist will play on the Wii U. Ubisoft has released a trailer that answers that very question:

There were definitely some lazy ports at the Wii U’s launch so it’s nice to see that Ubisoft seems to be giving the Wii U version of Splinter Cell: Blacklist plenty of love. Of course, it will all be for naught if the game doesn’t run as well as the other versions. That was a problem at the console’s launch, but we can only hope that developers have gotten used to the unique architecture of the Wii U by now.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be available on Wii U on August 23.

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist Collector’s Edition Comes With an RC Airplane

Splinter Cell: Blacklist Collector’s Edition Comes With an RC Airplane

Ubisoft disappointed Splinter Cell fans earlier this month by announcing the release of Splinter Cell Blacklist has been delayed until August 20. It wasn’t an unexpected announcement, but it still means fans of the series won’t be able to get their hands on the title before the crowded (and possibly next-gen laden) 2013 holiday season.

Today IGN revealed something that might make up for the extended delay. The “Paladin Collector’s Edition” of Splinter Cell: Blacklist will come with a fully working remote-controlled airplane. The “Paladin” aircraft is modeled after a similar vehicle featured in the game. That’s quite a step up from the statues found in most other games’ collector’s editions, and similar to the drone that was included in some collector’s editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

According to IGN, the “Paladin” edition of the game will cost $170 and will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In addition to the RC airplane, those who buy it will get a graphic novel titled Splinter Cell: Echoes (a prequel to Blacklist), an in-game co-op map called the “Billionaire’s Yacht” , and the “Upper Echelon Pack” DLC, which includes the “Dead Coast” map, an “extra suit” for Fisher, and “Gold Sonar Goggles.”

  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist Delayed to August 20

Ubisoft today announced that Splinter Cell: Blacklist has joined the ranks of games with vague “early 2013” release dates that have been delayed into the summer and beyond. The announcement, made through IGN, puts the definitive release date as August 20.

In addition, Ubisoft revealed that Blacklist is now available for pre-order and teased that bonus content will, of course, be included with pre-orders.

Blacklist, much like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III, will be heavily U.S.-centric. Sam Fisher will be be hired by the U.S. president to track down members of a terrorist organization called the Blacklist. A twisting plot full of deceit and betrayal will almost certainly follow.

A new trailer was also unveiled to accompany the delay announcement. Much like other Blacklist trailers, this one depicts the game more as an action movie than than a stealthy infiltration game. It’s probably close to what Ubisoft believes the Splinter Cell movie, staring Tom Hardy, will be.

  • Splinter Cell Blacklist Footage Shows Non-Lethal Takedowns

Splinter Cell Blacklist Footage Shows Non-Lethal Takedowns

Ubisoft loves its trailers. It’s great that the company wants gamers to know about their titles, but it can sometimes delve into spoiler territory. Now that Far Cry 3 has been released everywhere but North America, the publisher will be focusing on previews for Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Expect many more Splinter Cell trailers in the coming months, such as the “Fifth Freedom” trailer released back in September.

Today Ubisoft kicked off the developer diary coverage of Splinter Cell: Blacklist with a new trailer highlighting the stealthy non-lethal takedown animations Sam Fisher will be able to perform. Games with a stealth component typically encourage, or at least provide an achievement for not killing henchmen. With the broad range of non-lethal options shown in the video below, it seems the new Splinter Cell will be no different.

  • Splinter Cell Movie in Production, Tom Hardy to Play Sam Fisher

Variety is reporting that “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” in in production and that actor Tom Hardy has signed onto the project. Hardy is set to play Sam Fisher in the movie adaptation of the video game series.

Variety states that Eric Warren Singer, writer of The International, will be involved in writing the Splinter Cell screenplay. No studio has claimed the Splinter Cell movie yet, though “preliminary talks” were had with Warner Bros and Paramount.

Ubisoft, the publishers of the Splinter Cell series, already have an Assassin’s Creed movie in the works with New Regency Productions. Michael Fassbender has signed on to produce and act in that project, and will be playing Altaïr.

Hollywood is still trying to catch fire by adapting popular video games into movies. No video game movies ever made have gained critical acclaim, though some, such as the Resident Evil movies, make money for studios. The video game movies with the best Rotten Tomatoes scores (though they are all under 44% are Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Mortal Kombat. With video games becoming more mainstream, however, it’s only a matter of time until a video game movie hits on the right combination of writer, director, and cast to become a success.

  • New Splinter Cell: Blacklist Trailer Stresses the “Fifth Freedom”

Ubisoft today revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The game features a new voice for the protagonist, Sam Fisher, and what appears to be a new attitude.

The trailer, seen below, actually feels like a trailer for a new season of 24. It’s obvious that Ubisoft is going for the Modern Warfare and Battlefield gaming demographic with its marketing campaign. If the game actually plays like those fast-paced shooters, it might turn off some long-time Splinter Cell fans who appreciate more tactical and stealthy gameplay. There are some fast cutaway’s during the trailer that imply the game still has plenty of stealth sections, though.

In a cliche twist, it appears Sam Fisher will be joining the U.S. military in fighting terrorists this time around. The U.S. president hires Fisher to track down members of a terrorist organization called the Blacklist, who are ramping up attacks against U.S. interests. To do this, the president gives Fisher the “fifth freedom,” which, from what I can gather, is the U.S. equivalent of a “license to kill.”

The “fifth freedom” is a reference to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 speech on the “four freedoms” everyone in the world should have. Those four are freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.

  • E3 2012: Splinter Cell Blacklist Leaked Ahead Of Ubisoft Presser

E3 2012 doesn’t officially begin until tomorrow morning, but many of the big players will be holding their press conferences today. Ubisoft is one of the more interesting companies to watch if only for their unintentionally hilarious press conferences. It seems that the company had a surprise in store for us in the form of a new Splinter Cell title.

Thanks to the folks over at Gamekyo, screens from Splinter Cell Blacklist have been leaked onto the Internet for all to see. Unfortunately, all we know now is what we can get from the screens, but Gamekyo was able to confirm that Blacklist was coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The previous title in the series, Splinter Cell Conviction, only made it to Xbox 360 and PC.

So what do the screens tell us about Sam Fisher’s latest outing? It seems that Ubisoft is back pedaling on what they did with Conviction. Sam Fisher appears to no longer be hiding in plain sight as he moves through crowds to take down those who did him wrong. It appears that he is instead back to his old tricks wearing camouflage and his trademark night-vision goggles.

As for setting, it looks like the game will be taking place in the Middle East – big surprise there. Still, it could be what fans have been wanting after I know a few of them were a little disappointed with the urban stealth missions that made up Conviction.

Expect to see Splinter Cell Blacklist at Ubisoft’s press conference today at 3 p.m. PST/6 p.m. EST. It will be broadcasting live from Facebook and other livestreaming platforms.

Let’s take a look at some of the leaked screens and try to piece together what exactly is going on:
