  • Invisible Obama Twitter Account, Born out of Clint Eastwood’s RNC Speech, Has Been Suspended [UPDATED]

Is anyone else still trying to figure out exactly what in the hell Clint Eastwood was up to last night? In one of the most surreal, bizarre, and unexpected moves in the history of political conventions, Academy Award-winning actor and director Clint Eastwood conducted an “interview” of a sitting President. Of course, President Obama wasn’t actually there to answer questions. But that didn’t stop Eastwood, who asked viewers to imagine that Obama was sitting in the empty chair stage left of him.

Twitter exploded (to the tune of 7,044 tweets per minute at one point), as you would expect. And before Eastwood was even done with his speech, a parody account had already been created in its honor.

@InvisibleObama quickly garnered nearly 40,000 followers and became the unofficial mascot for the highly unusual convention speech.

And as of 9am ET Friday morning, the account has been suspended by Twitter.

    UPDATE: It’s been reinstated:

If the account is dead for good, we salute you. Here are some of the best tweets, in memoriam:

  • Before You Damn The Universe, Just Remember It’s Out There – On Twitter

I’m sure, that after some Rube-Goldberg-esque series of events causes you to be late for work, the first thought that might run through your head is “Why is the universe conspiring against me?”

Or, you may thank the universe for giving you something that you desire. Mostly it’s going to be cursing, though.

Just know that before you take to Twitter to assign any sort of power to the universe – it’s out there and it may respond to you.

Novelty accounts on Twitter are pretty hit or miss. I’d say that this one is a hit.

Some guy has decided that he’s going to answer the call of all the people who blame, praise, or simply mention “the universe” in a tweet. I present to you, THE UNIVERSE:

  • The Terminator Hunts For Sarah Connor on Twitter

Sometimes, when pop culture history meets Twitter, they fall in love. Since they love each other very much, they decide to show that love by making a novelty account. Some novelty accounts fail, and some succeed. This new novelty account is a winner.

Last Wednesday, a Twitter account was created for T-800, Cyberdine Systems Model 101, better known as The Terminator. Using the handle @111001001101010, the T-800 has begun its quest to find Sarah Connor. So far, The Terminator has asked about 70 different “Sarahs” on Twitter whether of not they are Sarah Connor.

If you need a refresher on why this is funny, please visit the Terminator Wiki.

It looks like this novelty account was created based on a pic posted to the Flickr photostream of user Timo Meyer

The pic is part of a series of fictional tweets that portray certain plot points of famous films. Along with the fake set of tweets below, the Flickr account posts snippets like” @WoodwardHere (Bob Woodward): @DeepThroat You Mean I should follow @TheMoney” and “@ChiefBrody (Martin Brody): @Quint1945 You’re gonna need a bigger boat. #greatwhiteshark”

The account in the above pic, T-800, doesn’t exist. It seems as though some people on the web saw this pic and though that it was a screencap from a real Twitter feed. At least one person, the creator of @111001001101010, saw the opportunity to capitalize on the idea and created an account that is actually trolling random girls named Sarah out in the Twitterverse.

    Amazing, right?

The “what if certain things occurred on social media” joke isn’t a new one, but it is still pretty damn funny. You remember the CoolMaterial post about famous historical events playing out on Facebook, right? It became one of the most viral pics is recent memory. Here’s a section of it –

Personally, my Twitter experience is greatly enhanced by following a couple of novelty accounts. To have an enjoyable Twitter stream, you need to achieve the right balance of important stuff and playful stuff. It’s nice to break up a stream filled with news updates and politics with a funny tweet from Batman. Here are a couple of novelty accounts that make Twitter more enjoyable (Most are NSFW) –

“Thank You Lord” is trending. It trends a lot. Funny how “You’re Welcome Humanity” never does. 50 minutes ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Yes, I have AAA. But only to see the look on the tow guy’s face when I tell him I need help changing a flat on the Tumbler. 3 days ago via Batcomputer · powered by @socialditto
