Newegg Gives Same-Day Delivery A Try

Electronics e-tailer Newegg announced that it is testing a same-day delivery service starting in Los Angeles. With rival Amazon increasing its own same-day delivery coverage, it’s as good a time as any for Newegg to get the ball rolling.

“Testing same-day delivery for our LA-based customers is something we’ve been excited about for many months,” said Soren Mills, Chief Marketing Officer of Newegg North America. “If all goes as planned, we will expand into new delivery areas.”

Customers completing orders by 11:00 AM can select a “Local Express” delivery option for eligible products. They will then get their products before 6:00 PM.

The company has a new fleet of delivery vehicles branded with “Newegg Express” to carry out the service.

“For many customers, the ability to have a product delivered the day it’s ordered is important and, in some cases, it’s a determining factor when deciding where to buy,” Newegg said. “For this reason, same-day delivery is quickly becoming the gold standard of online retail. Newegg is piloting same-day delivery in the Los Angeles area to meet this evolving customer need.”

Earlier this year, Newegg debuted an Amazon Prime-style “Peremier” club – a subscription service offfering expedited shipping, exclusive deals, etc. That costs customers $49.99 a year.

In June, the company announced the launch of a new B2B marketplace called NeweggBusiness, serving as a third-party channel to connect B2B buyers and sellers, and focusing on product selection and competitive pricing.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced the expansion of its own same-day deliver services into six more cities.

    Newegg Launches B2B Marketplace

Online electronics retailer Newegg announced the launch of a new B2B marketplace called NeweggBusiness. It serves as a third-party channel to connect B2B buyers and sellers, focusing on product selection and competitive pricing.

Newegg Business, which is a subsidiary of Newegg North America, was founded in 2010, and the marketplace has been in pilot phase.

The marketplace offers is aimed at businesses both large and small. Newegg Business provides store categories for computer hardware and peripherals, PCs and laptops, networking, software, data storage, servers and workstations, point of sale, electronics, office products, industrial and commercial, and refurbished.

“We’re very excited to officially announce the launch of NeweggBusiness Marketplace,” said Soren Mills, Chief Marketing Officer for Newegg North America. “With NeweggBusiness Marketplace, we’re providing an attractive online destination for businesses to buy and sell a multitude of products. It’s also a great way for businesses to magnify their brand awareness.”

The company says the marketplace fits the needs of government sectors, educational institutions and nonprofits, in addition to businesses.

  • Newegg Debuts Amazon Prime-Style ‘Premier’ Club

Online retailer Newegg has just announced a new subscription service that offers expedited shipping, exclusive deals, and more. They’re calling it Newegg Premier and it’ll run you $49.99 a year.

You can sign up for Newegg Premier beta today, and you’ll get a 30-day trial.

With Newegg Premier, you’ll get “early bird notifications” on upcoming sales, exclusive deals, free returns, and waived restocking fees.

And of course, the big benefit is the free expedited shipping. Newegg guarantees that items will arrive in 3 days or fewer – and if you want to make sure it comes in less time than that, they offer subscribers discounts on 1 and 2-day shipping.

Newegg may not have the sheer volume of products of let’s say, an Amazon, but they offer a large variety of goods that range from electronics and computer hardware to health & beauty and sporting goods. Speaking of Amazon, this launch comes on the heels of the news that Amazon is considering raising the price on a year’s subscription to Amazon Prime – possibly by as much as $40.

Newegg was founded back in 2001 by Fred Chang. In the time since, the company has grown to be one of the largest electronics-focused online retailers around. They currently boast 18 million users and over $2.5 billion in annual sales. If you want to sign up for the new Premier service, make sure you have a credit card. Judging by their social media pages, it seems there are plenty of people that are trying to sign up with a debit card to no avail.

  • Best Buy Needs A Sense of Humor Concerning NewEgg

Apparently, making fun of your competitors, without calling them out by name, warrants a cease and desist letter. Just ask Best Buy and NewEgg.com. The latter made the commercial that leads this post, and it’s a funny characterization of the Best Buy experience. I mean, because, let’s face it, there are times the customer knows as much, if not more, than the blue-shirted employee that’s helping them.

Granted, the fact that Best Buy’s Geek Squad as well as the installation crew are viable services means there are a lot of customers who couldn’t function in today’s technological world without help, but not every employee of Best Buy is an expert concerning the gadgets they are selling. With that in mind, Newegg’s commercial is a funny look at the world of the non-knowledgeable Best Buy worker, which, apparently, offended the big box kings. So much so, in fact, they issued a cease and desist to Newegg, as well as demonstrating their sense of humor is the equivalent of a poor sport.

Newegg posted the letter at their Facebook page, and it’s about as fun of a read as you’d expect. Best Buy’s complaint focuses on Newegg’s “disparagement of our employees and infringement of our valuable trademark rights.” In other words, you guys are mean and you represent a real threat to our business. Oh, the infringement Best Buy’s legal team is referring to is use of the word “geek,” because, it seems, Best Buy is the only company in the world allowed to use that word.

    Oh, and there’s more:

    Best Buy Cease and Desist

After reading that, the only thing I can think to add is “get over yourself, Best Buy!!!” There’s room for more than one big-time electronic resale business, much to your chagrin.

  • Netflix Scores High In Customer Satisfaction

Netflix Scores High In Customer Satisfaction

Customer satisfaction with ecommerce websites has rebounded a year after experiencing its first decline since 2004, according to the American customer satisfaction Index (ACSI).

The e-commerce sector gained 1.8% to 81.4 on ACSI’s 100-point scale, nearly matching its all-time high of 81.6 set in 2007.

The increase in the overall ecommerce sector (made up of e-retail, online brokerage, and online travel industries) is driven by the rebounding online brokerage industry, which climbed 5 percent to 78 after it lost 6 percent last year during a crashing stock market. Both e-retail (1% to 83) and Internet travel (3% to 77) also improved over last year.

"It’s no surprise that satisfaction with online brokerages is linked to the stock market. When the market crashes, customers aren’t happy. When it recovers, they feel better about their experience," said Claes Fornell, ACSI founder, professor at the University of Michigan.

"But the improvements in e-retail and online travel are a good sign that consumers may be ready to spend again, if they can find the means to do so."

    Ecommerce

The online financial services industry improved more than any other. Fidelity continues to lead the sector (79) along with Charles Schwab (79). The improvement in the industry overall is largely due to big gains by E*Trade (7% to 74) and TD Ameritrade (7% to 76).

E-retail increased 1 percent to 83 and continues to be the highest scoring industry in the ecommerce sector. Satisfaction with online retail exceeds satisfaction with brick and mortar retail (76). E-retail is the only industry in the ecommerce sector to score above 80, which is considered the starting point for excellence for the Index.  Netflix (2% to 87) leads the Index for the first time, trailed closely by Newegg (86) and Amazon (86).

"The dramatic increase in satisfaction with the e-retail industry over the last ten years has been driven largely by the success of pure-play e-retailers" said Kevin Ertell, Vice President of Retail Strategy at ForeSee Results.

"The retailers who are only selling online have, for the most part, paid better attention to customer needs and expectations and have worked to create a better online software experience for their customers."

Customer satisfaction with online travel increased for the first time in five years, matching its all-time high of 77.

Expedia (79) remains the top-score of the sector.  Priceline experienced the biggest gain increasing 7 percent to 76.
