  • Joey Feek Lives to See Daughter Indiana’s Second Birthday, Celebrates Several Milestones from Deathbed

Joey Feek reach a milestone she prayed and prayed to see. On Wednesday her little girl Indiana celebrated her second birthday, and Joey Feek lived to celebrate, albeit from her deathbed.

Rory Feek shared an awe-inspiring Instagram post on Wednesday, showing a smiling Joey Feek with their birthday girl.

“…some birthdays are more than just birthdays. They’re dreams coming true and prayers being answered,” he captioned the precious photo.

Little Indy’s birthday was the third milestone Joey Feek achieved in recent days. She wanted to live to see the new Joey + Rory album released. “Hymns That Are Important to Us” came out last Friday. Joey wanted to see one last Valentine’s Day, which she celebrated with her husband on Sunday. Then on Monday, she and Rory, along with several of their family members and dear friends, watched the Grammy Awards. Joey + Rory received their first-ever Grammy Award nomination for their song, “If I Needed You.” Although they lost out to Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush,” the country/bluegrass duo is more than thrilled with their nomination. Rory Feek’s daughters from a previous relationship–Hopie and Heidi–attended the Grammy Awards on behalf of Joey and Rory.

“…more than enough,” Rory captioned this photo of the one and only Joey + Rory Grammy Award nomination medal.

Joey Feek has been in hospice care since early fall, when she learned her chemotherapy and radiation treatments weren’t working. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer back in 2014, and the cancer has since spread.

Yes, Joey Feek achieved milestones in the past week, but she gave Rory and her family so much more. They will long remember her presence as they watched the Grammy Awards. Rory will always remember the last Valentine’s Day with the woman who–even after 14 years of marriage–he calls his bride. And an abundance of photos likely exist to show Indiana one day that her mommy fought a long fight, but stayed to celebrate her second birthday.

Joey Feek is an example of strength, and an example of strong Christian faith. She has inspired many through her recent fight.

Joey + Rory music will continue to provide that inspiration, long after Joey Feek is gone.

  • Joey Feek Lives to Celebrate Daughter Indiana’s Second Birthday

Joey Feek lived to meet several milestones she hoped to see this week. She wanted to live to see Valentine’s Day. She and husband Rory Feek went on their first date on Valentine’s Day several years ago. Joey Feek wanted to live to see this year’s Grammy Awards. She and Rory–the country bluegrass duo known as Joey + Rory–were nominated for a Grammy Award, and Joey was determined to watch the festivities on TV.

More important than both Valentine’s Day and the Grammy Awards, Joey Feek wanted to live to celebrate daughter Indiana’s second birthday. That is today. Rory Feek posted a picture of the mother and daughter on their Facebook page this morning. He noted that this was more than just a birthday. It was a dream come true.

…some birthdays are more than just birthdays. They're dreams coming true and prayers being answered.

Joey Feek is dying of cancer, and weeks ago these milestones seemed like impossibilities. She made it to see all three, however, although her body is quickly growing weaker and she is often in pain.

Rory Feek also shared a short video clip of little Indiana, shortly after she woke up on her birthday.

    …barely awake and already celebrating.

Rory also shared a photo of Indiana’s birthday breakfast, as “Uncle Russdriver,” Joey and Rory’s tour bus driver, fed her a meal.

These milestones Joey Feek lived to see must be awfully bittersweet for both her and Rory–as well as for their close friends and family members. Knowing she achieved them no doubt feels good, but understanding she could soon breathe her very last breath must hurt terribly, too.

  • Joey Feek Will Be Treated to Very Special Valentine’s Day by Husband Rory

Joey Feek will be treated to a very special Valentine’s Day on Sunday, by her husband Rory. Half of the country/bluegrass duo Joey + Rory, whose song “If I Needed You” is nominated for a Grammy Award, Rory knows this will surely be Joey Feek’s last Valentine’s Day, and he has a plan in place.

Rory Feek has chronicled much of Joey’s cancer journey in his blog, This Life I Live. On Friday, he shared some thoughts about treating Joey to a warm and loving Valentine’s Day, as well as a couple more special days the family is blessed to share.

“Valentines Day is this Sunday, the Grammy awards Monday, our little Indiana turns 2 on Wednesday, and on top of all that, our new album [Hymns That Are Important to Us] was released today,” Rory shared. “I woke up just before the sun came up this morning with all those things on my mind.”

“Our very first date was on Valentines day in 2002,” he continued, sharing details about his life with Joey Feek. “The horse-vet clinic Joey worked for at the time, Tennessee Equine Hospital, had a Valentines get-together for their staff and she invited me to come with her. That night must’ve gone pretty well…because two months later we were engaged and two months after that, Joey and I were married.”

Sunday will mark the 14th Valentine’s Day Rory and Joey Feek have shared.

“What I really want to do on this, our 14th Valentines together, is share a romantic candle-lit dinner with my bride: grill out rib-eyes on the campfire back home, pour two glasses of red wine and sit across from her at our kitchen table–just like we’ve done on more than one special occasion,” Rory writes. “But those things aren’t able to happen this year.”

“So my hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a ‘virtual’ walk down memory lane together…with pictures and videos on my laptop. I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on,” Rory shares.

Joey Feek is in the very end stages of cervical cancer. She wasn’t expected to live as long as she has. That will no doubt make Valentine’s Day extra special–one filled with bittersweet memories–for Rory this year.

  • Joey Feek, Husband Rory to Celebrate One Last Valentine’s Day

Joey Feek and her husband Rory will celebrate one last Valentine’s Day, as Joey grows weaker and more frail each day from the cancer that has ravaged her body.

Rory Feek has chronicled much of Joey’s cancer journey in his blog, This Life I Live. On Friday, he shared some thoughts about a few upcoming days they will be blessed to share.

“What I really want to do on this, our 14th Valentines together, is share a romantic candle-lit dinner with my bride: grill out rib-eyes on the campfire back home, pour two glasses of red wine and sit across from her at our kitchen table – just like we’ve done on more than one special occasion,” Rory writes. “But those things aren’t able to happen this year.”

Rory and Joey Feek aren’t even in their own home for their last Valentine’s Day. Instead of returning to their Pottsville, Tennessee farm house, they moved into Joey Feek’s childhood home in Indiana when doctors said chemotherapy didn’t rid her body of cancer. She remains there still under hospice care.

“So my hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a ‘virtual’ walk down memory lane together…with pictures and videos on my laptop. I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on,” Rory shares.

The ache in Rory Feek’s heart is obvious in the words he pens about his beloved Joey.

Hopefully the bittersweet aspect of their last Valentine’s Day won’t overshadow the deep love Rory and Joey Feek share.

  • Joey and Rory Feek: Rory Won’t Attend Grammy Awards Even Though Joey Feek Wants Him to Go

Joey and Rory Feek, known to their music fans as Joey + Rory, received their first-ever Grammy Award nomination for their song “If I Needed You.” Since Joey is suffering from end-stage cancer, the country/bluegrass duo won’t appear at the Grammy Awards on Monday evening.

Joey Feek has tried in vain to get Rory to represent Joey + Rory at the awards show, but he refuses to leave her side.

“I can’t leave her. I won’t,” Rory explained on his blog, This Life I Live. “I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them. Instead, I will be sitting beside her and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others. It’s an honor for us to just be a part of that night, it truly is.”

Joey and Rory Feek will instead watch the Grammy Awards–together–at home, where she is in hospice care. Rory’s daughters from a previous relationship–Hopie and Heidi, along with Joey + Rory’s manager–will attend the Grammys on their behalf.

Making it this far has been more than Joey and Rory prayed for, since her condition is so grave. The two prayed months ago that she would live to see the Grammy Awards, the release of their new Joey + Rory album, and the second birthday of their daughter, Indiana.

Indy’s birthday is on Wednesday of next week, and Rory Feek talked of their plans in his blog post.

“Our plan is to put streamers up around Joey’s bed and move Indiana’s high-chair in beside her, so Joey can be part of it,” he explained. “So she can watch our little-one eat her cupcake and rip the wrapping paper off her gifts.”

Rory concluded his post by saying that Joey has grown even more fragile, and while they hold out hope for their plans in the coming days, they know that ultimately God is in control.

“Yes, I have a plan. But mine always gives way to His,” Rory added. “Master plan.”

Will you be cheering on Joey + Rory at the Grammy Awards Monday night?

Joey and Rory Feek would no doubt appreciate your prayers as well.

  • Joey Feek Growing Perilously Frail, Holding Out Hope for Spring

Joey Feek is growing more perilously frail by the day, but despite what terminal cervical cancer is doing to her body, she is still holding out hope for spring.

Husband Rory Feek–half of the country/bluegrass duo known as Joey + Rory–has blogged about Joey Feek’s battle with cancer. He writes about that springtime hope that pretty much no one but Joey dares to imagine.

“Spring is my wife’s favorite season,” Rory writes of Joey in his blog, This Life I Live. “It always has been. It’s when she feels most alive. And this year, in spite of all she’s going through…is no exception.”

In recent days, Joey Feek began asking members of her family to start saving the shells of their eggs from breakfast each morning.

“Then last week, after she sent us to the store for potting soil, she started her seeds,” Rory writes.

Rory knows this is Joey’s way to prepare for springtime, “something she might not even get to see at all,” he shares in the blog post he titled “Sowing Seeds.”

“So thin and gaunt, and more frail than ever, my wife is sowing her seeds–putting down roots in the soil of our lives and hearts,” he continues.

Just a few days later, some of Joey Feek’s seeds sprouted.

“It was a beautiful sight to see,” Rory adds. “Even our little Indy was in amazement. It was her first time to really see her mama’s green thumb in action. As fun as it is to see the seeds coming to life, this isn’t just fun for Joey.”

“She does it because it’s important to her. Planting a garden and raising food that she can feed her family is part of who Joey is. That doesn’t stop just because you have cancer or are stuck in a bed for months-on-end. Life goes on,” Rory writes.

Joey Feek is planting seeds for more than one reason. She is preparing her loved ones for the life they will continue to live after she is gone. This is especially devastating for Rory, who still can’t fathom life without Joey.

“I just want her to be able to be in the garden–this year and 20 more after it,” he admits.

Sadly, it’s becoming even more unlikely that Joey Feek will live to see this coming spring, although she has surpassed her doctor’s original expectations.

For now Rory and the rest of their family are set on appreciating every day they have with Joey Feek, as they know each is a blessing and they are numbered.

  • Joey and Rory Feek Thankful for Extra Days They’ve Had Together in Spite of Terminal Cancer

Joey and Rory Feek are grateful for every day they’ve spent together. The country/bluegrass duo known as Joey + Rory didn’t expect to have as many days as they’ve enjoyed, but in their eyes God has been good. Joey Feek wasn’t expected to live until Thanksgiving, and now–at nearly the end of January–she is still alive.

Diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, Joey Feek has fought a hard battle, one she learned this fall she wasn’t going to win. Doctors told her the chemo she’d undergone for the treatment of her cancer hadn’t worked. She returned to her childhood home in Indiana, under hospice care, where she has been ever since.

Rory Feek has chronicled Joey’s cancer battle in his blog, This Life I Live. His most recent post, “The Power of the Plus-Sign,” provides fodder for some good, long contemplation.

“It was faith that we added,” Rory writes, addressing the couple’s strong relationship with God. “A willingness to trust Him and be okay with whatever He had in store.”

Their faith inspired Joey and Rory to “only see the plus’s in our life.”

“Like all the extra days and weeks that we’ve been given together (the doctors here didn’t expect Joey to make it to Thanksgiving, and here we are near the end of January), and all the beautiful conversations and time we’ve had with her family,” he adds.

The blog entry ends with a beautiful photo of Joey and Rory’s 23-month-old daughter Indiana.

“The amazing power of the plus-sign. Joey+Rory = Indy,” he captions it.

Joey and Rory Feek have likely brought more followers to Jesus Christ during her cancer battle than they will ever know. To see the physical toll the cancer has taken on Joey, and read the inspiring blog posts Rory has shared has no doubt instilled in many of their friends, family members, and fans the knowledge that faith brings with it a wealth of gifts.

Joey and Rory are abundantly grateful for their gifts, and they’re counting them off–one day at a time.

  • Joey Feek Enjoys Visit from Sister-in-Law, Former Restaurant Co-Owner

Joey Feek wasn’t always a singer. In fact, she and husband Rory Feek’s sister once ran a restaurant together.

Those days were part of the reminiscing that took place in recent days as Joey Feek enjoyed a visit from her sister-in-law Marcy.

Rory shared a photo of the two ladies visiting–along with Joey and Rory Feek’s little girl Indiana–on the couple’s Facebook page.

…my sister Marcy reminiscing w Joey (and Indy) about how they started the restaurant together nine years ago. What a beautiful blessing Marcy Jo's has been to our family and so many others.

Posted by Joey and Rory on Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Marcy and Joey opened Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse back in 2007. It is still in business in Tennessee today.

Joey Feek–half of the country/bluegrass duo Joey + Rory–is living out her last days in hospice care at her childhood home in Indiana. Suffering from stage IV cervical cancer, doctors told Joey this past fall that chemotherapy treatments weren’t working.

Knowing the end is near, Joey Feek recently told her husband she’s had conversations with Jesus, and when He is ready for her, she is ready to go home to Him.

She also has dictated a list of things Rory Feek is to remember to do after she is gone.

Visits like this one with Rory’s sister are precious to Joey Feek, but likely even more precious to Marcy. Every time a friend or loved one leaves Joey Feek’s side, they likely wonder if they’ll ever see her alive again.

  • Joey Feek Recalls Meeting Husband Rory, Who Has Stuck by Her Side Throughout Cancer Battle

Joey Feek Recalls Meeting Husband Rory, Who Has Stuck by Her Side Throughout Cancer Battle

Joey Feek knows the end is near. Half of the country/bluegrass duo Joey + Rory, she has battled stage IV cervical cancer since May of 2014.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Joey Feek shared the joy of first meeting Rory, the husband who has stuck by her side throughout her battle.

“Rory was singing “In the Round” at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville with three other songwriters,” Joey says of day she first laid eyes on him back in 2002. “I was just one of dozens of people in the audience that night. From the first song Rory sang, I fell head over heels for him.”

“I didn’t even know him, but something inside me said, ‘You’re going to marry that man and spend the rest of your lives together,’” Joey Feek adds.

Two months later the two tied the knot.

In 2008, Rory and Joey Feek competed on CMT’s reality singing competition, Can You Duet, and came in third place. They spent years on the road singing together before adding to their family. Rory Feek already had two daughters–Hopie and Heidi–from a previous relationship. In February of 2014, daughter Indiana was born.

Just a couple of months later, Joey Feek was diagnosed with cancer, underwent a radical hysterectomy, and underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.

In June of 2015, doctors informed Joey and Rory that the treatments hadn’t worked. Her cancer had spread.

Joey Feek returned to her childhood home in Indiana, where she is under hospice care.

“I’m 10 years older than Joey and I always knew that when I get old or if something were to happen to me, Joey would be there beside me no matter what,” Rory Feek explains. “No matter how hard it was, no matter how I looked or what we faced, she would be there. But I never dreamed that the roles might be reversed and life might require those things from me.”

“For better or worse aren’t just words you say anymore. Because of all Joey is going through, it’s given me the opportunity to live them every day, and follow through and mean the words I said to her at the altar,” he adds.

Joey Feek knows she is blessed to have a husband like Rory. The two have relied on their strong faith since they met, and they’re relying on it now to get through these dark days.

  • Joey and Rory Feek Have “Hours and Hours” of Video Footage of Joey Feek for Daughter Indiana

Joey and Rory singer Rory Feek recently shared on his blog, This Life I Live, that once Joey Feek passes away, he can keep her memory alive for their little daughter Indiana.

As Joey has fought her battle with cervical cancer and nears the end of her days on earth, Rory has done his best to make her last days happy ones. Lately they’ve become bittersweet, as they both know the end is near.

During a recent conversation with People magazine, Rory Feek spoke of his blog and the memories he’ll forever hold dear.

“I am a songwriter who hasn’t been writing songs in the last couple of years, so sitting down and writing these stories about our lives has been a wonderful creative outlet for me,” the Joey and Rory singer said. “Each blog post has also been therapeutic for me, in the sense that there are some parts of what we’re going through that I’m not sure what to make of. Writing about it helps me to sort out what I feel and how to respond to the twists and turns that life has taken us on.”

When Rory isn’t writing or relishing the excitement over a Joey + Rory song receiving a Grammy Award nomination, he has a camera in his hand, capturing Joey Feek’s cherished last days with her family.

“Without realizing I was doing it, God has allowed me to capture hours and hours of Joey and her life at home on the farm, raising Indiana and playing music,” he esplains. “I can’t help but believe that those clips will be an important part of keeping Joey’s memory alive in Indy’s heart.”

Joey + Rory are a country/bluegrass duo who are also husband and wife. Rory Feek recently said he’ll no longer make music once Joey passes away.

One can hope that he’ll find peace after Joey is gone, and perhaps keep his Joey + Rory music alive–even if only for the sake of little Indiana.

  • Joey Feek Tells Husband Rory What to Remember After She’s Gone

Joey Feek is increasingly aware that her days on earth are coming to an end. Even in the pain of her final days she is still putting her family first, however.

Husband Rory Feek–the other half of the country/bluegrass duo know as Joey + Rory–spoke with People magazine, and explained that Joey Feek is most concerned right now with what those she leaves behind remember of her.

“As Joey has had to learn to come to terms with what is happening to her body and what the future holds, it’s been important to her to share some things that she wants me and our girls to remember after she’s gone,” Rory says.

Joey Feek will be laid to rest on the property that houses her childhood home. That’s also the place she returned home to under hospice care, to spend her last days with Rory and their daughter Indiana.

“More than once, I have found myself beside her bed taking notes as she shares things like when the best time to plant the garden will be this spring, how to prune the fruit trees and to make sure we still set aside a percentage of what we make as a tithe each month,” Rory explains.

Rory is grateful for the family and friends who have helped them in recent months. He is especially thankful for his two daughters from a previous relationship–Heidi, 29, and Hopie, 27.

“Though Joey didn’t come into their lives until they were teenagers, my girls love her as their mother and she loves them as her own,” Rory says. “They also love their baby sister so much, and they hurt for her and all that Joey is going to miss as she grows up. They have made many trips here from home in Tennessee just to be close to us, spend time with Indy and love on Joey.”

Joey Feek recently admitted to her husband that she was having many conversations with Jesus, and that when He was ready to take her home to be with Him, she was ready to go.

“We are surrounded by Joey’s family here in Indiana and life is a revolving door of sisters, parents and nieces and nephews–all pouring love and time into Joey and our little family,” Rory adds. “Though the situation and conditions that brought us here are very difficult, it has been a really beautiful time for Joey and all of us. Not hardly an hour of the day goes by without someone telling someone else that they love them. It’s hard to ask for more than that.”

Joey Feek will surely be remembered long after she departs this world. In addition to Rory Feek, little Indiana, and her big sisters Hopie and Heidi, she will certainly be remembered by her many fans.

Rory Feek will long hold the memory of all Joey wants him to remember very close to his heart.

  • Joey and Rory Feek Await New Album, Rory to Cease Recording and Performing Once Joey Feek is Gone

Joey and Rory Feek have a wealth of awestruck fans, in part for the beautiful music they’ve made, but mostly for the strong Christian faith they share. Even in the midst of Joey Feek’s last days battling stage IV cervical cancer, their faith in Jesus Christ is their strength and their guide.

As Joey and Rory await the release of their upcoming album, Rory Feek admits he won’t record or perform once Joey has passed away. Of course only time will tell if he holds fast to this belief. Fans of the country/bluegrass duo known best as Joey + Rory are likely praying he doesn’t.

It was during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, that Rory spoke of not making any more music after Joey passes away.

“This is the last record that Joey and I will ever get to make and the last songs we’ll ever get to sing together,” he says. “I have no desire to go on singing or performing without her.”

Joey and Rory Feek’s little girl, Indiana, recognizes every track on the upcoming album by heart. Joey Feek rocked her to sleep, while she was still able, singing her the songs.

“Her mama rocked her to sleep singing them and has even taught Indy how to sing along with sign language on ‘Jesus Loves Me,’” Rory tells ET. “Joey singing these songs is a big part of Indy’s life so far, and I know that these songs will go on to be very important to her as she grows up and is able to hear Joey still singing them to her when we play the album.”

Joey and Rory Feek recorded most of their upcoming album, “Hymns That Are Important to Us,” in Nashville, however many of Joey’s final vocals were recorded in a hotel room, near where she was undergoing chemo and radiation treatments.

It was this past fall that doctors told Joey and Rory that the treatments hadn’t worked, and they returned to her childhood home in Indiana, where she has remained under hospice care.

In Rory Feek’s blog, This Life I Live, he shared that he and Joey know the end is near. He also wrote about Joey’s recent conversations with Jesus.

“I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing. But I can’t.”

The new Joey + Rory album comes out on Valentine’s Day. Both Joey and Rory are praying she lives to celebrate its release with him.

  • Joey Feek Says Tearful, Heartbreaking Goodbye to Her Best Friend, Is ‘Inconsolable’ Says Husband Rory Feek

Joey Feek has had to say goodbye to her best friend as she prepares to leave this world as her cancer progresses, an event that has reportedly left her “inconsolable.”

Country singer Rory Feek shared an update on his terminally ill wife, who is now in hospice, in a new blog post on Saturday, saying that Joey was “inconsolable” over saying goodbye to her best friend, Julie Zamboldi.

“I put my arms around her and asked what was wrong,” Rory wrote of the encounter. “As her lips quivered and she tried to catch her breath, the tears streamed down her cheeks and Joey said, ‘I don’t think I will ever see her again.’”

Joey and Zamboldi, who shaved her own head in support of her best friend, have been fast friends ever since they met when the couple, who performed as the duo Joey + Rory, at their first Big & Buckle Festival eight years ago.

“Like an angel from heaven, it was as if God sent Julie to us. To her,” Rory continued. “But none of us exactly knew why, until the cancer showed up again this summer.”

Joey, who has a 23-month-old daughter with Rory, was diagnosed with stage IV cervical cancer in 2014. After fighting the disease for a time, Joey decided to stop chemotherapy treatments in October after the cancer returned and spread to her colon.

“Months later and as Joey’s condition has continued to improve, then worsen, again and again … Julie has made three trips to Washington and is back here with us again,” Joey added. “She’s been here all week, helping Joey’s sister Jody take care of my wife and me and everyone else. She cooks, she cleans, changes the baby’s diaper, and does any and everything else that she can find to do that needs to be done while we’re living here out of suitcases … not waiting for someone we love to die. But helping the woman we all love to live.”

Rory has been chronicling Joey’s cancer battle on his blog, This Life I Live.

  • Joey Feek: Rory Feek Doesn’t Want to Sing or Perform Once She is Gone

Joey Feek is still waging her battle with cancer, as husband Rory pens that both of them know the end is near. The country/bluegrass duo known as Joey + Rory have a new album coming out next month. “Hymns That Are Important to Us” went on pre-sale on the Cracker Barrel website today.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rory says he won’t make any more music once Joey Feek passes away.

“This is the last record that Joey and I will ever get to make and the last songs we’ll ever get to sing together,” he says. “I have no desire to go on singing or performing without her.”

Rory and Joey Feek’s little girl, Indiana, likely knows every track on the upcoming album by heart. Joey Feek rocked her to sleep, singing her the songs.

While most of the album was recorded in a Nashville studio, Joey Feek’s final vocals were recorded in a hotel room while she was undergoing chemo and radiation treatments.

It was this past fall that doctors said those treatments weren’t working, and Joey Feek returned to her childhood home in Indiana, under hospice care.

In Rory Feek’s blog, This Life I Live, he recently wrote about his and Joey’s understanding that the end is near, as well as Joey Feek’s conversations with Jesus.

“I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing. But I can’t.”

Do you think Joey Feek knows of Rory’s plans to stop making music once she passes away? That doesn’t sound like something the Joey + Rory singer would ever want to happen.

  • Joey and Rory Feek Find Comfort in “When I’m Gone,” Song That Appears on Their Upcoming Album

Joey and Rory Feek are both in turmoil as Joey battles the cancer that is robbing her of life. The country/bluegrass duo known professionally as Joey + Rory, Joey and Rory Feek know there’s not much time left for Joey here on earth.

Something the husband and wife are clinging to is a song called “When I’m Gone.” It will appear on the upcoming Joey + Rory album that goes on pre-sale at the Cracker Barrel website on Friday, January 15. Called “Hymns & Stories That Are Important to Us,” the album is set for release next month.

“When I’m Gone” was written by Nashville songwriter Sandy Lawrence. Joey and Rory wanted to record it to help circulate Lawrence’s name. While recording it, they realized it would one day become one of the pieces Rory Feek will have left of Joey–after she is gone.

Rory Feek writes about recording the song in his blog, This Life I Live.

“It wasn’t what I wanted… but it’s what the song wanted,” Rory writes. “And though it scared me for us to be that vulnerable, it was also what our whole lives and music career was about – being real… being honest. And so the cameras rolled and both Joey and I let us ourselves imagine what it would be like if she had to leave this world and I was left behind without her.”

Rory Feek will soon known that feeling. He continued in his latest blog post, sharing about Joey’s recent conversations with Jesus.

“And now, here I sit beside my dying wife,” he writes. “I don’t say those words lightly. As a matter-of-fact, I haven’t said them at all. But my beautiful bride has said them to me in these couple of days. Her pain and discomfort has continued to increase daily and so has the morphine to help her be comfortable. The dosage she’s needed to keep the pain away has quadrupled in the last four days.”

“I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing,” he continues. “But I can’t. Yesterday with tears in her eyes and mine, Joey held my hand and told me that she has been having serious talks with Jesus. She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her… she’s ready to come home.”
Our ‘make-believe’ song and video seems to be coming true.

“Some call it ‘life imitating art’. I don’t,” Rory pens. I call it God. He knew I would need her to tell me goodbye… not just once, but a thousand times. And I’d need to know that no matter how much time passes, that she loves me still. And He made it so that if I needed to be reminded of her beautiful life and heart and voice… she would only be a ‘click’ away.”

“Am I angry at the irony of the song?” Rory asks. “No. How could I be? How many men who are losing the woman they love get a gift like that? None that I know of.”

Back on December 7, Joey and Rory were nominated for a Grammy Award for their song “If I Needed You.” Joey Feek set a goal to live until February 15, the night the 2016 Grammy Awards air.

Joey and Rory’s album comes out the day before.

Although Rory Feek writes bravely about what’s to come, he will no doubt be devastated when Joey passes away. One day he will hopefully listen to “When I’m Gone” with peace in his heart.

Joey and Rory: Joey Feek Nears Death as New Album Goes On Pre-Sale

Joey and Rory Feek–best known as the country/bluegrass duo Joey + Rory–are enduring very bittersweet days. Joey Feek is readying herself to leave this world, and the couple’s upcoming album, “Hymns & Stories That Are Important to Us,” goes on pre-sale beginning Friday.

Joey Feek has terminal cervical cancer, and has been home under hospice care since doctors said this fall that chemotherapy treatments weren’t working. Rory Feek–the second half of Joey and Rory–has journaled about their journey in a blog he calls This Life I Live.

Just days ago, Rory wrote about Joey and her recent conversations with Jesus.

“Here I sit beside my dying wife,” he penned.

“I’d like to tell you that she’s doing great and is going to beat this thing,” he wrote, “But I can’t. Yesterday with tears in her eyes and mine, Joey held my hand and told me that she has been having serious talks with Jesus. She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her… she’s ready to come home.”

Joey Feek set some goals in recent weeks that, and if she passes away any day now, as Rory expects, she won’t achieve. Joey wanted to live at least until February 14–Valentine’s Day–to see the release of their brand new Joey + Rory album. The day after Valentine’s Day is the broadcast of the Grammy Awards. Joey and Rory had a song nominated for a Grammy Award this year, and Joey prayed to live long enough to see if they win.

Joey and Rory Feek welcome everyone’s continued prayers. They are strong believers that Jesus creates miracles, and if He is willing to create one for Joey Feek, they will accept it with open arms.

Fans can pre-order the upcoming Joey + Rory album, “Hymns & Stories That Are Important to Us,” by visiting the Cracker Barrel website, starting Friday, January 15.

  • Joey Feek Near Death, Morphine Quadrupled to Ease Pain

Joey Feek, half of the country-bluegrass duo Joey + Rory, is perilously close to death. Her morphine has been quadrupled in the past couple of days to keep the pain at bay.

Suffering from cervical cancer since a 2014 diagnosis, Joey Feek’s doctor said this fall that chemotherapy treatments weren’t working. Rory Feek brought his wife to her Indiana childhood home, where she has lived out the past few months under hospice care.

Rory has blogged about Joey Feek’s journey. His most recent post indicates Joey is ready to “come home to Jesus.”

“Here I sit beside my dying wife,” he penned. “I don’t say those words lightly. As a matter-of-fact, I haven’t said them at all. But my beautiful bride has said them to me in these couple of days. Her pain and discomfort has continued to increase daily and so has the morphine to help her be comfortable. She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her… she’s ready to come home.”

Joey Feek set some goals in recent weeks that, and if she passes away as soon as Rory expects, she won’t reach. She wanted to live until February 14–Valentine’s Day–to see the release of a brand new Joey + Rory album. The day after is the broadcast of the Grammy Awards. Rory and Joey Feek had a song nominated for a Grammy Award this year, and Joey prayed to live long enough to see if they win.

Rory and Joey Feek are parents to a sweet little girl named Indiana. On good days Joey has played with her on the floor. On not such good days she has read her stories in her hospital bed.

Rory will spend his life keeping Joey Feek alive in his heart, and her memory alive in Indiana’s.

The strong Christian faith the couple shares ensures them they’ll one day all be together again.

  • Joey Feek: Husband Rory Feek Says She is Near Death

Joey Feek has fought a good fight, but in recent days she has admitted to her husband, Rory Feek, that she’s not going to win this battle.

Half of the country/bluegrass duo Joey + Rory, Joey Feek has talked about dying in recent days.

Rory Feek shared his feelings on his blog.

Yesterday with tears in her eyes and mine, Joey held my hand and told me that she has been having serious talks with Jesus. She said she told him that if He’s ready to take her… she’s ready to come home.”

Joey Feek was diagnosed with cervical cancer back in 2014. In the fall of 2015, doctors told her and Rory that the chemotherapy treatments she’d been receiving weren’t working. At that point the decision was made for Joey Feek to return to her childhood home in Indiana under hospice care.

Since that time, Joey and Rory have spent every day together, along with their almost two-year-old daughter Indiana. On good days Joey Feek got out of bed to play with her little girl. On other days she read to her from her hospital bed.

Joey Feek set a couple of goals in recent weeks that, if she passes away within days, she won’t reach.

Even if Joey Feek doesn’t reach these goals, Rory is beyond proud of her. He knows she has suffered and tried her hardest to hang on.

He will no doubt rely on the strong Christian faith he and Joey have held fast to, once she passes away.

  • Joey And Rory: Joey Got Her Wish To Live Until Christmas

Joey and Rory Feek have been sharing their bittersweet goodbye via social media for a while now and Christmas was no exception.

Joey Feek of Joey and Rory entered hospice care last month after stopping treatments for stage IV cervical cancer in October, when the treatments were deemed ineffective.

Back in November, Rory wrote that Joey was hoping to see Christmas and even possibly see their daughter, Indiana’s, second birthday in February.

Joey got her first wish. Joey and Rory did celebrate Christmas together on Friday, surrounded by many friends and family.

Joey and Rory shared a photo of the happy gathering via Facebook:

A week earlier, Joey and Rory got a surprise visit from a very real-looking Santa Clause.

Joey and Rory were kind enough to share those pics for us to enjoy, as well.

Rory wrote, “When the presents were opened and his work was through, Santa found a spot next to Joey and made himself at home – just like an old friend. He said he knew our music (I had no idea Santa was a country music fan) and was a little nervous about coming to see us this evening – not knowing what to expect – or if Joey would be up for their visit.”

He added, “But I think once he saw my bride sitting on the couch and smiling when he came in, and enjoying the evening… he settled in and hopefully had as good a time as we did.”

A nation is hoping that Joey and Rory will get their second wish-for Joey to see Indiana turn two.

What do you think of Joey and Rory’s story?

  • Joey Feek: Joey + Rory Singer Lives to Celebrate Christmas

Diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, Feek stopped chemotherapy treatments this fall, when doctors determined they weren’t helping her.

Devout Christians, Rory and Joey Feek pray constantly for miracles. Joey living to celebrate Christmas was a miracle in their eyes.

Since she can now cross Christmas off her bucket list, Joey Feek has a few more miracles she is praying for. She wants to live to see Valentine’s Day. That’s the day the new Joey + Rory album is set to release. She also wants to see the next day, February 15. That’s the day the Grammy Awards air. Joey + Rory received their first-ever Grammy nomination a few weeks ago.

Living to see Christmas boosted Joey Feek’s faith so much, she now prays she’ll live to see daughter Indiana Feek’s second birthday in February, too. Joey and Rory have celebrated Indiana’s birth by months recently, for fear Joey won’t live to see the actual birthday.

Prior to Christmas, Joey Feek and her family received a wonderful surprise. Santa Claus arrived at their home, bringing gifts–and inspiration–to all.

“When the presents were opened and his work was through, Santa found a spot next to Joey and made himself at home–just like an old friend,” Rory Feek wrote on his This Life I Live”>blog. “He said he knew our music (I had no idea Santa was a country music fan) and was a little nervous about coming to see us this evening – not knowing what to expect–or if Joey would be up for their visit. But I think once he saw my bride sitting on the couch and smiling when he came in, and enjoying the evening… he settled in and hopefully had as good a time as we did.”

Prayers are surely being said by countless people that Joey Feek lives to meet her next milestone. She is certainly living proof that miracles do happen.

  • Joey and Rory Feek Share New Year’s Eve 2014 Video Clip, Pray for New Year’s Eve 2015

Joey Feek has suffered from cancer since 2014. In October she stopped her chemotherapy treatments and went home with hospice care.

We had a 1940's themed New Years Eve last year in our barn. I dusted off my old uniform and my bride and I cut a rug to some big band music. Hoping for a long sweet slow dance this year.
