  • We Now Have a Report of an Assault by Google Glass Haters

UPDATE: An earlier version of this article sported the title “We Now Have a Report of a Google Glass Hate Crime.” Of course I wasn’t seriously giving it the gravity of a true hate crime. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek. I was just emphasizing the fact that the Google Glass explorers community considers themselves as such–a community, or a group. It’s just a comment on the fact that the offenders pretty much said “you people are ruining our city.” If it came off as insensitive, that was not my intention.

A San Francisco woman claims that she was assaulted and robbed inside an area bar by some Google Glass haters. Sarah Slocum says she was “verbally and physically asaulted and robbed last night in the city” by a couple of individuals who were none-too-happy with her wearable tech.

“I have video of one of the girls saying that ‘we are destroying the city’ and video of the guy ripping them off my face,” she says on a Facebook post.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the alleged assault took place in the city’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. Although Slocum says that she filed a police report, the Chronicle quotes officials who say they are unaware of any incident.

“The only thing that I got back that night was the glass. I filed a police report yesterday but the police have not found the people or guy that did it or my stuff. I don’t plan on getting anything back. It happened at this bar called Molotov between Ashbury and Valencia and was started by these two girls who acted like they owned the place and must go there regularly because lots of their friends or the locals there started *haighting* too and backing them up,” says Slocum.

“These…people were just bitter, ugly, nasty, angry, jealous, confused and threatened people and this was apparently their hive.”

Google recently put out a nice little guide to not being a Glasshole–you know, a Google Glass-wearing asshole.

“Respect others and if they have questions about Glass don’t get snappy. Be polite and explain what Glass does and remember, a quick demo can go a long way. In places where cell phone cameras aren’t allowed, the same rules will apply to Glass. If you’re asked to turn your phone off, turn Glass off as well. Breaking the rules or being rude will not get businesses excited about Glass and will ruin it for other Explorers,” explains Google.

Maybe they need to come out with some suggestions for how to deal with Google Glass from the other side–”don’t rip them off someone’s face” or something like that. You know, keep it simple.

“I hope this doesn’t deter anyone from getting Google Glass. Usually the experience is 180 degrees different, and right before this happened I was showing one of the normal, excited and curious individuals there how it works, letting them try it on and demonstrating it for them. This is the experience 95% of the time,” she says.

Right now, this is just a report. But there’s really no reason to believe that Slocum would just make all of this up and open herself up to scrutiny and possible criticism (it’s the internet after all). Sure, we’ve seen some Google Glass explorers go to some extreme lengths to ride the publicity wave before, but it looks like Slocum just wants to get this story out there.

She recently filmed an interview with a local news station that will air tonight.

I’m sure any video Slocum can pull off her Glass will help. Imagine that–if Google Glass wound up capturing damning video of a crime–a crime spurred on by a hatred for Google Glass.

  • Colorado Theater Shooter to Get New Psych Evaluation

Colorado theater shooting suspect, James Holmes, will have another chance at a mental examination to determine if he was insane at the time he shot up a theater full of people in a suburb of Denver, according to Fox News.

The judge in the case, Arapahoe County District Judge Carlos A. Samour Jr., determined that the first mental exam given last summer was flawed. The prosecutors’ requests to have the exam done by a doctor of their choosing has been denied. Judge Samour said that it would again be done by the state hospital, but a different doctor than last time.

The list of things that have delayed this trial continues to grow, as just a couple of weeks ago, there was a separate hearing on whether or not the contents of Holmes’ phone could be shown to jurors. The contents reportedly include some disturbing self-photos of the suspect.

Should the test determine that Holmes was mentally insane or “in the throes of a psychotic episode”, as his lawyers suggest, then he would be sent away to the state hospital indefinitely. If they determine that he was sane and knew exactly what he was doing, and that it was wrong, he will face either the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Holmes was a promising pupil, both in high school and college. In 2011 he enrolled in a Ph.D. program in neuroscience at the University of Colorado, Denver, but it was not to last. After failing a key test and dropping out, it was only a matter of weeks before he was committing one of the biggest and most shocking crimes in recent history.

He entered a theater full of people in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises”. He riddled the audience with bullets, killing 12 and injuring 70. He also rigged his apartment with deadly explosives to distract, confuse and possibly harm responders. Holmes has so far pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

His trial date is still anyone’s guess as pre-trial motions continue.

  • ‘Catch Me If You Can’ Continues to Be a Dumb Thing to Say to Cops on Facebook

I’m sure criminals have no desire to take any advice from me–but I’ll offer some anyway. Guys and gals (but mostly guys), you have to stop taunting police on Facebook.

The latest example of this comes from San Antonio, where a motorcyclist has been arrested after he posted a video of a dangerous, high-speed ride through traffic on Facebook.

Apparently, Alberto Rodriguez posted the clip with the caption “Catch Me If You Can.” Well, they can.

“Officers with the SAPD REACT Auto Theft Task Force followed a lead on a stolen motorcycle to a home in the 600 block of Karen Lane. Once there, they encountered Alberto Rodriguez, most recently seen posting a video titled ‘Catch Me If You Can…’ On his Facebook page. The stolen motorcycle was recovered as well. Rodriguez faces his currently outstanding felony warrants, a misdemeanor assault warrant, a possibly charges in connection with the stolen motorcycle,” said San Antonio Police on Facebook, complete with the hashtag #Arrested.

Before, I said that people have to stop doing this–I guess they don’t, really. It sure makes it easy on police. Because it happens all the time. Seriously. People taunt police on Facebook more than your optimistic view of humanity can most likely allow.

  • Missing Person Group: Craigslist Killer May Be Lying

Craigslist Killer Miranda Barbour may not be entirely truthful in her shocking recent confession to local police, says Seeking Alaska’s Missing, a local missing persons organization.

Barbour’s claims that she belongs to a satanic cult and has killed so many people from Alaska to Texas that she “stopped counting at 22” just don’t match with the numbers, says the organization.

“Based on the research we have conducted, we are not putting much stock into what this woman has claimed. We remain skeptical at this time until further proof is given,” the group said in a statement to FoxNews. “Our focus at Seeking Alaska’s Missing is finding the missing and, unless they have not been reported by a family member or friend, the numbers simply do not match up.”

According to WNEP, Barbour said of the confession, “I feel it is time to get all of this out. I don`t care if people believe me. I just want to get it out.” She said she had been sexually abused at 4 years old, and that she only killed “bad people”.

Dr. Dammer, head of the criminal justice department at the University of Scranton, said of Barbour, “Often you have young women who are abused or maybe they were prostitutes or they were raped by husbands or family members, who turn the tables and do this kind of thing. That’s happened in more than a few occasions. That would be the case when you have younger woman.”

19-year-old Barbour and her husband of three weeks, Elytte Barbour, 22, are both being held on charges of first-degree murder in the November brutal slaying of 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara in Sunbury, Pa. LaFerrara reportedly answered a Craigslist ad to have sex with Miranda for $100. Barbour said they killed him after he gave the wrong answer when she told him she was sixteen.

He said he wished to go on with their illicit rendezvous even though she was a minor. Barbour told police that they would have let him live if he would have called off the deal when he found out her supposed age.

Miranda stabbed LaFerrara as her new husband strangled him from the backseat where he had been waiting. Miranda Barbour could face the death penalty if convicted in the murder of Troy LaFerrara.

In the shocking jailhouse interview with The Daily Item in Sunbury, Miranda Barbour said that she had been killing people since she was thirteen years old. She also indicated that she could pinpoint all of the victims’ bodies on a map

  • Florida Execution Reignites Death Penalty Debate

The Florida execution of a confessed murderer yesterday has again caused tempers to flare on both sides of the death penalty debate.

In fact, a last minute, last resort appeal was made on behalf of the confessed murderer, Juan Carlos Chavez, by his lawyers, but was unsuccessful.

The accused confessed to the 1995 rape, murder, and dismemberment of 9-year-old Jimmy Ryce.

The young boy was kidnapped from his school bus and led at gunpoint to Chavez’s trailer. Chavez then raped the young boy and shot him when he tried to escape. Chavez panicked, and proceeded to cut the boy’s body into several small pieces and hid the pieces in cement planters. All this happened while his parents and search parties were combing the area in desperation to find Jimmy.

Some say that the death penalty is wrong, no exception. Others say that people like this deserve to die. They say that monsters like this should not even be given the slightest glimmer of hope that they will ever be free to hurt anyone again.

One person who believes the latter is Jimmy’s brother, Ted Ryce, who attended the execution of his brother’s killer, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

“Many people have asked why I decided to come today. I did not come today to celebrate Juan Carlos’s execution…. Many people did not believe that Juan Carlos Chavez should be put to death for his horrible crime of raping and murdering my brother Jimmy Ryce. I believe this comes from a place of weakness, not strength. It comes from not being able to face the atrociousness of some men’s actions and punish them on a level commensurate with their crime.”

He added, “But we must be strong. We must do what it takes to send a clear message to other child predators that if they go after children, if they kill children, that they will die at the executioner’s hands. Today will bring no closure for my family. As my father has stated, ‘Closure does not exist,’ but the justice served this day after a painful 19 years will end the chapter on this part of our life and now we look forward to moving on.”

What do you think about the death penalty for murderers like Juan Carlos Chavez? Do you think people who rape and murder children should be allowed to live, or should they be killed so that there is no chance of them ever being a danger to society again?

  • Man Banned from Internet After Sending Naked Men to Neighbor’s Door with Craigslist Sex Ads

Yeah, that’s a mouthful of a headline. I just wanted to get all of the facets of this amazing story in the headline so you wouldn’t be tempted to pass it over. I assure you, everything I said above is true. And we’re not even talking about Florida!

Jason Willis, from Racine, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to two and a half years probation and has been completely banned from using the internet after he used online classified service Craigslist to coax sex-hungry men to his neighbor’s house.

I’ll let the Journal Times handle the next part:

The Waterford man will spend the next 2 1/2 years on probation and is banned from the Internet after he was sentenced Tuesday for posting Craigslist ads asking people to have sex with his neighbor.

Trouble was, investigators said, his neighbor wasn’t soliciting for sexual trysts and didn’t know about the ads until people began appearing at her door. That included a man dressed in a coat, but naked underneath.

WISN confirms that the man showed up wearing nothing but a trench coat – and he was far from the only one who responded to Willis’ racy ad.

If Willis violates any part of his probation (including accessing the internet), he’ll be forced to spend 18 months in jail.

Although there is a lot of amazing stuff happening in this story, and it’s impossible not to make light of, you have to feel for the victim here. It could have turned into a dangerous situation – I mean, do you know some of the creepers who respond to Craigslist ads?

“It was just a joke to him. To me, that’s not my idea of a joke. It’s not my idea of a prank. You don’t send men to a single woman’s home with her daughter there,” the victim said. “It’s been about a year and a half, but I’m still nervous as to who’s coming to my door, why they’re coming to my door, and if I don’t see a vehicle, I don’t know who it is.”

  • Supermarket Shooting: 2 Injured, Suspect in Custody

Supermarket Shooting: 2 Injured, Suspect in Custody

A supermarket shooting in an Atlanta, Georgia Kroger left two women with non-life threatening injuries, one shot in the leg and the other in her torso. The shooting happened Monday as a crowd of people hurried to stock up before a predicted winter storm, according to Fox News.

Police spokesman Greg Vaughn said, “The scene is a little chaotic. You can probably imagine with everybody stocking up on bread and milk.”

Many customer who were in the store at the time of the shooting reported hiding in freezers until the store was cleared and a male suspect was apprehended, according to Reuters. It is not apparent whether the people involved even knew each other, but police interviewed witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.

“This Kroger is actually pretty busy anyway, and you’re looking at noontime, and then they had extra customers in here stocking up for our snowstorm,” Vaughn said.

Apparently, there was an argument that prompted the shooting, but no details of that argument have been given.

The store has been evacuated, and that particular Kroger will open at a later date. Police say that the shooting was an isolated incident and they believe that no one is in danger anymore.

People were not expecting the shooting as they were preparing for the storm. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal had already declared a state of emergency for nearly a third of the state, as schools went ahead and canceled classes and workers were told to stay home.

Those areas of Georgia are shuttering themselves in, as they definitely don’t want a replay of last month’s ice disaster where children were stuck on buses for hours and in schools, some overnight and some were stuck on major roadways for hours before many decided to get out and walk home amid the freezing chaos.

  • Florida out Floridas Itself with a Craigslist Meet-up Turned Botched Kidnapping at a Walmart

Before we get in to one of the most Florida stories in the history of both Florida and stories, let’s all go ahead and take a deep breath – this story involves Craigslist, attempted kidnapping, guns, Walmart, parking lot rage, and of course, Florida.

Two men are facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and attempted kidnapping after they tried – and failed – to abduct a man they met on Craigslist in broad daylight in a Walmart parking lot. America.

Darius Beasley, 21, and Jamichael Tucker, 19, are being held on $103,000 and $125,000 bond, respectively.

As the story goes, our unidentified victim met a man to allegedly purchase his $4,500 wedding ring. The two arranged the meet-up via Craigslist.

Our presumed divorcee met with Beasley, let him inside his truck, and proceeded to make the deal. That’s when things got really Florida interesting.

I’ll let the Pensacola News Journal’s Kevin Robinson take it from here:

The victim said that immediately afterward, Tucker approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and pointed a gun inside. Tucker then allegedly opened the door of the vehicle and attempted to put duct tape around the victim’s wrists.

The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and run away, and the two suspects returned to their car and drove off, the report said. The victim began to chase the pair in his truck, and Tucker reportedly leaned out of his car window and began shooting at the victim.

Luckily, shockingly, and un-Floridaingly, no one was injured in the exchange.

In the future, chasing a man with a gun when you, yourself, are unarmed, is ill-advised. I’m just thinking out loud here. Also, on the other hand, don’t try to kidnap people. I think that’s sound life advice, even for The Sunshine State.

  • LAPD Manhunt: Officers Acted “Out of Policy”

It has finally been decided that eight officers involved in last year’s botched manhunt for former cop, Christopher Dorner, acted “out of policy” when they fired on a truck they believed to be the suspect, according to the AP. It actually contained two women who were delivering newspapers early that morning.

LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck said in an interview shortly after the shooting, that the women were the victims of “a tragic misinterpretation” by officers working under “incredible tension,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Beck will decide on the discipline for the officers who are currently on non-field duty awaiting the results of the investigation. He said at a news conference,

“These officers will all and have all received extensive training as had the whole Los Angeles Police Department relative to these types of issues.”

One person who isn’t surprised at the determination is Glen Jonas, the attorney for the women, Emma Hernandez, who was 71 at the time, and her daughter, Margie Carranza, who was then 47. They were awarded 4.2 million dollars for the incident along with another $40,000 for their truck.

“There (are) 4.2 million reasons I have to believe it’s out of policy,” Jonas said. “Anyone with any common sense would agree it’s out of policy.”

Beck admitted that the officers fired on the truck that was “creeping” down the street after one of the women threw a newspaper and an officer thought that the sound of it hitting the pavement was gunfire.

“There is no evidence to support that they were holding an object that could be reasonably perceived to be an imminent deadly threat,” Beck wrote in his report.

Tuesday, he reiterated that sentiment by stating, “I sympathize with the officers, but I have a very high standard for the application of deadly force, and the shooting did not meet that standard,”

Jonas said that Hernandez had recovered except for some shoulder problems, and that neither of them had returned to tossing newspapers, adding that Carranza had tried but that “it was too traumatic for her.”

“The emotional and mental trauma is still there and they’re still dealing with that,” Jonas said.

Surprisingly, there was almost no discipline taken at all. A panel of high-ranking police officials reviewed the shooting right after it happened and urged Beck to clear the officers, said sources. These sources spoke on the condition that they remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

Beck, however, ultimately found that he just couldn’t justify the action that was taken by the officers. The punishment taken could range anywhere from retraining to firing.

  • Heroin Happy Meals: Twice In One Month

Heroin Happy Meals: Twice In One Month

Heroin is not exactly what you’d like to see when you open your kid’s Happy Meal box from McDonald’s, but apparently, that is what was being used to sell the drug out of a McDonald’s drive-thru in Pittsburg, PA.

Shania Dennis, 26, was busted by undercover agents for selling heroin at work, where she would instruct her “customers” to say, “I would like to order a toy” while she was working her shift at the drive-thru, and she would then pass them the drugs in the Happy Meal boxes.

Dennis then proceeded to deny any wrong doing to gathering reporters as she was led away in handcuffs. Police say they found 10 bags of heroin in a Happy Meal box and got another 50 bags of the drug off of the suspect.

According to the AP, the owner of the restaurant didn’t have any idea what was going on and wasn’t involved.

“We have no indication the owner knew of this and neither suspect has, to this point, implicated the owner or anyone else at either restaurant,” said Mike Manko, who is a spokesman for the Allegheny County district attorney’s office in Pennsylvania.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EZ7C9QbwYk

This is the second time this month that a McDonald’s employee in Pennsylvania has been busted for selling drugs at work. According to ABC, Theodore Levon Upshaw, 28, was also arrested when an informant bought drugs from him at the restaurant just off of Route 22 in Murrysville.

Upshaw was fresh off an early release from a three-year prison sentence after he was convicted of possession with intent to deliver. He was living in an alternative housing facility.

The same man, Iftikhar Malik, owns both of the stores busted for heroin sales. He has issued a statement saying,

“As an employer and a member of the community, the safety of our guests and employees is our first priority. The allegations related to this employee do not represent acceptable behaviors and are not consistent with my values. As such, we take these charges very seriously and we are fully cooperating with the authorities. We are also conducting our own thorough internal investigation.”

Investigators don’t, however, believe the drugs sold at either of Malik’s restaurants are linked to fentanyl-laced heroin that are being blamed for 22 fatal overdoses in Pennsylvania in recent weeks.

  • Florida Kid Sent a Bomb Threat to His School via Facebook Message

    Florida man kid strikes again!

The first rule of anonymous bomb threats is that they are anonymous. Interestingly enough, that’s also the first word in “anonymous bomb threats.”

Most Americans who have gone through the public schools system are quite familiar with the school bomb threat. We’ve all had to evacuate the building, line up outside at a rather unsafe distance (depending on the size of the possible bomb), and watch the fire department sweep the building. Most of the time, school officials never really figure out who called it in. It’s most always just a prank. Stupid kids, right?

Well, for one Winter Haven, Florida school, the search was quick and easy.

    From WTSP:

A 14-year-old middle school student on leave was arrested Monday for sending a bomb threat in a Facebook message to his school.

Winter Haven Police say the Denison Middle School student sent the private message via mobile device saying, “I’m gonna bomb this school,” to the school’s official Facebook page on Jan. 24 and it was picked up by school administrators.

Cool, bro. Direct and to the point.

Apparently the kid also chased a classmate around with a kitchen knife and told him he’d be coming back for him the next day. Our little troublemaker was taken to juvie and charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon and threatening to discharge a destructive device.

“Any inappropriate posts or comments will be deleted and the user will be banned. If unsure about a comment, it is probably best not to post it,” says a disclaimer on Denison’s Facebook page. In order to clarify, I guess the school should have also discussed bomb threat direct messages. I know, but you gotta spell everything out these days.

Our future is bright, you guys.

  • Hunter Moore, Revenge Porn King, Indicted for Email Hacking Scheme

Hunter Moore, the man who owes every bit of notoriety to peddling revenge porn, has now been arrested and charged for the methods in which he obtained it.

A Grand Jury in California has indicted Moore for, among other things, conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, and aggravated identity theft.

The indictment names two defendants, Moore and Charles Evens (aka “Gary”), in a pretty basic conspiracy. The document alleges that Evens would hack into the victims email accounts, find nude images, and sell them to Moore. The Grand Jury charges that Moore knew exactly where the images came from and would even “offer defendant Evens additional money to obtain unlawfully additional nude pictures.

The main site named in the indictment is Moore’s now-defunct isanyoneup.com. It also names 7 differnet victims, ranging from December 8th, 2011 to January 29th, 2012.

Here’s Moore’s last tweet, made earlier today:

In recent months, we’ve seen a bit of a crackdown on “revenge porn” – the latest example coming from California, where Governor Jerry Brown recently signed SB 255. The law, which ultimately bans revenge porn, makes it illegal to “electronically distribute nude images of another person with the intent to cause serious emotional distress.”

Moore has been called one of, if not the, most-hated man on the internet. You can be assured that there are plenty of people celebrating this news.

You can check out the full indictment below:

  • Lufthansa Heist: 5 Mobsters Arrested For Crime

Today a man alleged to have been involved in the 1978 Lufthansa heist at John F. Kennedy airport, New York,  is among 5 men taken into custody by the authorities for the crime.

Federal agents have carried out a series of raids in the NY metro area to apprehend the suspects. A 78-year-old Vincent Asaro of Howard Beach is one of the mobsters facing a series of charges including the infamous JFK airport robbery that happened over 3 decades ago.

“An FBI operation is ongoing. We will release further details later this morning,” said FBI spokeswoman Kelly Langmesser to ABC News.

Asaro will be the first suspect to face charges in the Lufthansa heist case. The only other person who has ever been charged is airport worker Louis Werner. Werner was accused of providing critical information to the mobsters in order for them to carry out the crime. Other suspects in the case have died and only a small fraction of the money has been recovered.

More than $5 million in cash and $1 million worth of jewelry was stolen during the robbery that took place on Dec. 11, 1978. This is equivalent to about $20 million today. At the time, it was the biggest heist ever pulled off in the United States. Despite long investigations, nothing came of it, though in 1990 Hollywood released “Goodfellas”, a movie that made the heist even more famous.

Federal prosecutors indicted the five men with a number of crimes including murder, robbery, exhortation, bookmaking and arson. The four other suspects apprehended are Jack Bonventre, Jerome Asaro, John “Bazoo” Ragano and Thomas “Tommy D” Di Fiore. The men are all believed to belong to the Bonanno crime family.

The men will be arraigned in U.S district court in Brooklyn on Thursday.

According to Langmesser, Vincent Asaro was arrested following an investigation conducted last summer at the home of another mobster called James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke. Some time ago human remains were found at Burke’s home and were identified as those of Paul Katz. Katz was allegedly murdered in 1969 by Vincent Asaro and his accomplice Jerome Asaro because they believed he was a police informant.

Further details of the arrests are still developing.

  • Justin Bieber Smiles in Mugshot After DUI Arrest

When a celebrity gets arrested, it’s only a matter of time before someone digs up the police report with all of the relevant information. The Miami Beach Police Department decided not to keep anyone interested in singer Justin Bieber’s arrest waiting on pins and needles and posted everything to Twitter. Not only did the MBPD post a tweet announcing the arrest, the police department also posted Bieber’s mugshot and police report.

The Miami Beach Police Department announced that Justin Bieber and Khalil Sharieff were arrested this morning after being caught drag racing. After pulling over Bieber, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol on the singer’s breath and Bieber was eventually charged with DUI and resisting arrest.

Check out the MBPD’s announcement of the arrest. You’ll notice that the department also tagged their suspect.

The MBPD later released both Bieber and Sharieff’s mugshots. Always one to flash his pearly whites, Bieber did not disappoint in his mugshot.

Sharieff, who is 19 and an R&B singer, didn’t look as pleased with his arrest as Bieber did in his mugshot.

Bieber’s arrest report is listed below. The report says that Bieber and Sharieff were racing each other in Lamborghinis and were traveling between 55 and 60 MPH in a 30 MPH residential area. The arresting officer says that when he began talking to Bieber he smelled alcohol on his breath and that he had “a look of stupor on his face.” After refusing to follow the officer’s orders at times, Bieber was arrested and transported to the police department where it was discovered that he was also driving with an expired license.

Justin Bieber’s DUI arrest certainly isn’t doing much to help him get the New Year off to the right start. This is his second run-in with the law in 2014. Just last week, it was announced that Bieber is being investigated for vandalism. His neighbor accused him of egging his house following an argument.

  • Guy Shares His Own ‘Wanted’ Facebook Post from Police Page, Nabbed in 45 Minutes

Parents, if your child is beginning to show even a lick of sense, hold them tight. Not every parent is so lucky.

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after he taunted police by sharing his own ‘Wanted’ post on their page. He was apprehended after a quickly-orchestrated Facebook sting operation that involved officers posing as an interested female prospect.

On Monday, the Freeland Police Department shared this photo on their Facebook page:

And in less than an hour, they shared this one:

What happened in between? Well, Mr. Lescowitch has shared the post on his own Facebook page and taunted police.

This hilarious story doesn’t end with idiot Facebook shares, however. It actually ends with idiot Facebook messaging. Here’s the Times Leader’s account of how Lescowitch was eventually apprehended:

So, an undercover officer used a Facebook profile of a fictitious attractive woman to engage in online conversation with Lescowitch through Facebook for about a half hour, pretending to be interested in meeting him and gathering key information about him.

Lescowitch, of Freeland, initially declined an offer to meet for a drink, but when the officer asked him where he was and said, “The least you can do is come out and have a cigarette with me,” Lescowitch agreed, police said.

Sure enough, when undercover officers pulled up in a car at the location Lescowitch specified, he came out and was promptly arrested without incident.

He’ll be arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, probation violation, and failure to properly navigate social media.

The funny, sad, depressing, yet altogether unsurprising fact about this type of display is that it happens all the time. All the time.

  • Lizzie Borden Case Still Fascinates And Frightens

Lizzie Borden may be among the most notorious and well-known suspected criminals who literally got away with murder; however, the case is still classified as unsolved. Tragically, Lizzie Borden’s claim to fame is that she may be forever immortalized for her suspected involvement in the murder of her father and her stepmother as depicted in the following verses:

    Lizzie Borden took an axe,
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done,
    She gave her father forty-one.

In truth, Lizzie killed her stepmother, Abby Borden, with 18 strikes instead of the “40 whacks” mentioned in the previous verse. Lizzie’s wealthy banker father, Andrew Borden, was also subjected to extreme brutality though the popular phrase of “41 whacks” was in actuality no more than 11 forceful attacks. Andrew had a reputation for being stingy where many within the community of Fall River, Massachusetts, had contempt for the successful self-made bank president.

Lizzie Borden was noted for showing unusual behavior during the days surrounding the trial. Her infamous and dramatic swoon in the courtroom upon hearing revelations of the crime scene is still considered when discussing courtroom theatrics. Some of these revelations included gruesome details such as Andrew’s eyeball being sliced in half. The fate of Lizzie Borden was decided by a jury consisting of 12 men where the deliberations lasted for 90 minutes before the announcement of Lizzie Borden’s innocence was delivered to the courtroom.

According to the closing arguments made by George D. Robinson, who was part of the defense team representing Lizzie Borden, “… one of the most dastardly and diabolical crimes that was ever committed in Massachusetts… Who could have done such an act? In the quiet of the home, in the broad daylight of an August day, on the street of a popular city, with houses within a stone’s throw, nay, almost touching, who could have done it? Inspection of the victims discloses that Mrs. Borden had been slain by the use of some sharp and terrible instrument, inflicting upon her head eighteen blows, thirteen of them crushing through the skull; and below stairs, lying upon the sofa, was Mr. Borden’s dead and mutilated body, with eleven strokes upon the head, four of them crushing the skull.”

  • Elkhart Shooting At Martin’s Supermarket Leaves 3 Dead

Elkhart police officers fatally shot a man suspected of killing two women at a Martin’s supermarket Wednesday night. The suspect identified as Shawn Walter Bair, age 22, is reported to have used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot 44-year-old Rachelle Godfread and 20-year-old Krystle Dikes at approximately 10 p.m.

Bair who is from Elkhart, lived nearby and was well known at the store, said Indiana police officer Trent Smith. Before Bair shot the two women, he was seen using his cell phone and walking around the store for about 35 minutes.

Police arrived shortly after the shooting and confronted the armed suspect, they then opened fire, killing him.

“It was obvious he was going to the store with a mission. As far as how long he’d been thinking about this, whether a month or a year, we don’t know,” Smith said.

Bair first opened fire on Dikes and then shot Godfread. He then turned his attention to the store manager, telling him to get down on his knees. When the police arrived, Bair became frenzied and the manager escaped. Police believe that had they not responded quickly, more people may have died.

Bair’s motive for the shooting has not been established but the authorities are interviewing witnesses and studying surveillance videos.

“We have not determined a motive,” Sgt. Smith said.

However, there are claims that Bair may have had a past relationship with the 20-year-old victim, who at one time visited Bair’s home.

Gov. Mike Pence released a statement Thursday, where he commended the police for their good work and bravery and sent condolences to the families of the victims.

And the store posted a statement on its Facebook page, saying

“Thank you to our community for your thoughts and prayers tonight. We will comment further when we can do so responsibly and appropriately.”

  • Police Catch Florida Man’s Texting & Driving Crash on Video

Texting while driving is stupid, reckless, dangerous, and an all around dick move. Everybody knows this, but the majority of adults continue to do it. Why? Well, why does anybody do anything, really? I’m going to go with selfishness, as opposed to stupidity. You can fix selfishness.

Every week it seems there’s a new story about some distracted driver doing something stupid. Whether it’s a texting driver running straight into a trailer full of crap, someone crashing their car into a lake, or someone plowing into a herd of cattle, the examples all demonstrate the simple truth that you can’t really multitask when it comes to driving. It’s something that requires all of your attention.

Today’s example comes with an added bonus – the police actually caught it on dashcam.

We go to Fort Myers, Florida, where it appears that Florida Man is at it again. Watch below as Michael Woody learns the dangers of texting while driving first hand:

Luckily for Mr. Woody, he was able to crawl out unscathed. According to police, Woody admitted that texting is what led to his erratic driving. He was cited for careless driving and texting while driving (Florida’s new ban on the practice just went into effect a few months ago).

And luckily for Google, Mr. Woody was simply texting and not wearing Google Glass when he ran off the road and flipped his car over – they surely don’t need the bad press.

  • Justin Bieber: Did Obnoxious Act Justify Search?

One minute you’re a pretty boy singer with saggy pants just tossing eggs at your neighbor’s house. The next thing you know, the police are searching your home for proof….of an “egging”.

The bizarre scenario began a week ago when Justin Bieber was video-taped by his irate neighbors throwing eggs at their home. The a short while later the video footage was sent to TMZ.

In the 47 second video clip, the homeowner can be heard that he can “f**king see” Justin Bieber on his property. A person who admittedly sounds a lot like Bieber is responding that he has “another one”, a possible admission to trespassing and vandalism. The video isn’t the clearest and TMZ’s trademark doesn’t help, but the voice is definitely recognizable.

After the incident occurred, Bieber’s neighbors took pictures of the damage caused by the vandalism and claimed that his little stunt resulted in $20,000 worth of damage. A drop in the bucket of Bieber’s fortune, he had offered to pay for the damages.

But the story doesn’t end there.

The act of vandalism led to Los Angeles County law enforcement descending on the home with a search warrant. Eleven cop cars were at the scene of the search, where cops were hoping to find definite proof of Bieber’s actions.

During the search, an associate of the singer was arrested on drug-related charges. There’s no reports yet of drugs being linked to Bieber, but police say that though he was not detained for drugs, he’s not yet been cleared.

Not everyone approves of the show of police force. California-based criminal defense attorney David Wohl told FOX411 his opinion of the whole matter.

“Cops are going to extraordinarily lengths to try to prove what is a relatively minor crime. Rest assured if the average person has their house egged, cops will not respond with the felony warrants and a battering ram. This is a frankly embarrassing response by cops who appear to be hell bent on finally making something stick to this Teflon pop star.”

Was Justin Bieber’s behavior enough to justify such a raid? Opinion will likely be divided as Bieber’s behavior continues to baffle and annoy about as much as his singing.

  • Underwear Bomber Appeal Denied; Court Says Claims Have No Merit

On Monday a federal appeals court upheld the life sentence of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (aka “underwear bomber”) for trying to blow up a plane headed for Detroit with a bomb hidden in his underwear on Christmas Day, 2009. He had filed an appeal asking for review of the sentence.

Just one day after his trial began, in October 2011 Abdulmutallab pleaded guilty to eight counts. Abdulmutallab, who is Nigerian, seemingly took great pride in his suicide mission, calling it a “religious duty” aimed at avenging American attacks against his faith. Yet, he argued in his appeal application that the life sentence was cruel and unusual punishment. He challenged a number of decisions by U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds such as failing to order for medical examinations and allowing him to defend himself despite doubts about his competence.

The appeals court rejected all the defendant’s arguments and challenges against the sentence, saying “none of these claims have merit.” The court said, contrary to Abdulmutallab’s claims, the trial judge had warned him of the consequences of not being represented by an attorney but the now 27-year-old terrorist insisted on representing himself at the time.

Abdulmutallab, whom the court described as an “educated and adept individual” was trained in Yemen by a radical cleric called Anwar al-Awlaki. Abdulmutallab hid a bomb in his underwear aboard a plane headed to Detroit from Amsterdam. The plane had 281 passengers and a crew of 11 aboard.

The court ruled that the life sentence was adequate considering the gravity of the crime and the fact that Abdulmutallab deliberately knew what he was doing.

“These actions show the deliberate, conscious, and complicated path Abdulmutallab chose to pursue in the name of martyrdom.”  The three-judge bench argued that these actions clearly indicated the exact opposite of “incompetence.”

The 281 passengers on Northwest Airlines flight 253 were lucky. They are alive today because Abdulmutallab’s bomb failed to explode.

  • Kanye West Investigated for Punching Racist Teen

Rapper Kanye West has found himself in the midst of yet another police investigation after punching an 18-year-old that was screaming insults at fiancée Kim Kardashian. According to TMZ, the young man hurled insults and racial slurs at both Kardashian and West, and West later assaulted the man in a waiting room at a medical office.

While it seems that the dad to young North West can’t keep his name out of police investigations, this is probably one situation where people might actually think West was in the right for his actions. After a man hurled racial insults and other derogatory slurs at Kardashian, West took matters into his own hands and reportedly punched the teenager.

According to People, everything started when Kardashian was trying to get away from photographers while out shopping for furniture. An 18-year-old was trying to help Kardashian get away from the paparazzi when he made the comment “F–k these fa–ot ass ni–ers.” After Kardashian reprimanded the young man for using the N-word, he apparently began screaming at her and called her a “bitch,” “slut” and a “ni–er lover,” among other things.

After Kardashian got on the phone with West to tell him what was going on, the young man hurled a racial slur at him over the phone. “At this point Kim was seriously afraid for her life,” a source told People. “He was going nuts. Kanye came down to help her but then the guy ran into a chiropractic office so Kim and Kanye walked in after him.” Kardashian and West went to the waiting room where they found the 18-year-old sitting and West allegedly punched the young man.

FOX411 spoke with police about the incident and verified that the report of West being investigated for battery was indeed true.

“[On Monday] the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to the 8800 block of Wilshire Blvd. regarding a Misdemeanor Battery that just occurred at the location,” Lieutenant Mark Miner said. “The named suspect was identified as Kanye West by the victim and several witnesses. Mr. West had left the location prior to officers arrival.”

The teen plans to press charges against West, who is busy preparing for the rest of his Yeezus tour. West began touring in October, took a break during the month of January, and will wrap up the remainder of the tour in February.
