  • Chevrolet Silverado Super Bowl Ad Gets Romantic

    Hello Ladies

In what’s becoming a popular move, companies are releasing Super Bowl ads before the big game on Sunday in an effort to generate internet buzz. It’s not a bad decision considering the cost of a 30-second ad this year is at the $4 million mark. Chevrolet released its Sunday-bound ad on Wednesday and because of their marketing strategy, Chevrolet Silverado is currently trending on Yahoo.

The ad is called Romance. The commercial centers upon an old-fashioned cowboy towing a bull in a large trailer, highlighting the power of his rugged Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup truck. However, it’s not just another western. Instead, it’s more of a love story. Well, maybe not quite a love story. A stud story? Cue the mood background music, You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate, and it becomes quite obvious what the cowboy has in store for the bull.

A man, his truck and a very eligible bachelor. It all leads to romance for the bull and the group of lady cows waiting with bated breath and licking-lips for their stud.

Big time companies like GoDaddy and Budweiser are also of the opinion that it’s best to release Super Bowl ads days if not weeks before the game. The Super Bowl attracts over 100 million viewers worldwide, many of whom are more interested in the funny and expensive commercials, rather than what Peyton Manning is doing on the field.

Speaking of the big game. The high-powered Denver Bronco offense will face off against the defensively-built Seattle Seahawks for Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2nd in New Jersey. Vegas odds makers are predicting the contest will be a close one. The current line has the Broncos favored by only 1.5 points. And if the game turns out to be a blowout, at least fair weather football fans will have the commercials to look forward to.

  • Chevrolet Silverado Wins With Upgraded Features

Chevrolet Silverado Wins With Upgraded Features

The battle between Ford and Chevy trucks rages on in 2014, with each competitor upgrading their vehicles even closer to perfection.

The second-best-selling vehicle, the Chevrolet Silverado, has upgraded its interior as well as minor changes to the exterior to possibly make it the victor this year. Chevrolet has listened to driver feedback and made some key changes.

The most notable change is that the rugged truck now sports a remarkably quiet and comfortable cabin. Kelly Blue Book raves:

“GM engineers put a great deal of effort into developing a remarkably quiet cabin for the 2014 Chevy Silverado, and the hard work paid off. Road and wind noise are nicely quelled at highway speeds, while the retuned suspension soaks up everything short of a sinkhole.”

The Kelly Blue Book review also compliments the Silverado’s “light and precise” steering with a responsiveness unexpected of the heavy work-truck’s design.

Not just depending on a smooth ride to up the ante, the truck also offers a strong V8 engine that uses a cylinder deactivation method to provide better fuel efficiency along with more power than Ford’s V6 engine.

Although the V8 boasts an impressive fuel economy rating, Kelly Blue Book warns that you can receive similar power with a Ram 1500 that sports a V6 engine with much better fuel economy.

The starting price for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Double Cab is $25,575 with the maximum price going into the $50,000s for the top-of-the-line Silverado High Country edition.

US News ranks the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 as the best full-size pickup truck of 2014, with the Ram 1500 next, the GMC Sierra 1500 third and the Ford F-150 fourth. Truck brand loyalty likely serves a big part as to why the Chevrolet Silverado is only the second-best-selling truck under the Ford F150. Something tells us that Chevy will keep on trucking until they get that top spot.

  • Chevrolet Silverado Wins Truck of the Year Award

General Motors recently swept the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards in Detroit, Michigan with their Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Silverado, taking top honors for the 2014 year. The double-win for GM was the first time a company has produced the winning vehicles for both categories.

The win in the truck/utility category this year won General Motors their fourth award for one of their trucks. It was the second time the Chevy Silverado won the award, which also claimed the victory in 2007.

The Silverado 1500 HD, worth around $50,000, won the competition with 219 points; it was followed by the Jeep Cherokee who had 174 points, and the Acura MDX (97 points).

The system for choosing a winner is based on factors such as innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, and value of the vehicle. Points are given to each contender by a panel of 49 judges, made up of automotive experts and journalists from the U.S. and Canada. The judges this year hailed from companies and media outlets such as Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, Kelley Blue Book, Playboy, Popular Mechanics and Automotive Engineering International.

The NACOTY awards is currently in its 21st year, naming cars and trucks manufactured in North America, Japan, or Europe with either the Car or Truck/Utility Vehicle of the Year. Domestic vehicles have won 14 times, followed by Japanese-produced automobiles, which have won four times. The only requirements for consideration are that the vehicle must be brand new to the market or considerably different in its design.

The General Motors-produced Corvette Stingray won in the car category at the awards this year, being given an overall score of 211 points. The Stingray was followed closely by the Mazda 3, which had 185 points, and the Cadillac CTS with 94 points.

The global head of Chevrolet, Alan Batey, said of the company’s double win, “Chevrolet is in the midst of the most aggressive product transformation in the brand’s more than 100-year history. It is a distinct honor for the entire Chevrolet team to have both the Corvette and Silverado recognized with the prestigious North American Car and Truck of the Year awards.”

The Chevy Silverado won this year partly because of its innovative design, which boasts a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, which gives the pickup the ability to automatically shift to operating on 4 cylinders in order to conserve fuel with its cylinder deactivation technology. The fuel economy of the Silverado is the best of any V-8 on the market, getting an EPA-estimated 23 mpg on the highway.

  • 2014 Jeep Cherokee Predicted Truck of the Year

Going by press and internet buzz, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is likely to come out on top this year at The North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards (NACTOY). This Tuesday, the NACTOY jury comprised of 48 top automotive journalists announced that the Acura MDX, Chevrolet Silverado and the Jeep Cherokee are the three truck finalists for this year. These trucks set themselves apart from strong competitors such as the BMW X5, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the Toyota Tundra.

In order for a domestic or imported car or truck to be eligible for the NACTOY award, there has to have been significant change in the model from its previous years. According to NACTOY, these cars and trucks are nominated based on “innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.” If it wasn’t for the signature (but updated) grill remaining on the Cherokee, the modernized sleekness of the 2014 edition may make it unfamiliar for some without a second glance. As earlier reported by us, the new Cherokee also possesses the first nine-speed automatic transmission, over 40 inches of legroom and advanced safety equipment usually reserved for luxury cars.

The Dodge Ram 1500 was the winner of last year’s NACTOY award, and we’ll find out if the favorite truck of many will take home this year’s award on January 13th at the Detroit Auto Show.
