  • Scar Your Children For Life With A 3D Printed Replica Of Them As A Fetus

I love 3D printers. They can create all sorts of whacky objects that makes the 12-year-old kid in me extremely jealous. Of course, one 3D printed replication out of Japan would have horrified me as a child.

Japanese company Fasotec now offers expecting mothers the option of creating a 3D printed replica of the fetus currently residing inside of them. It would be kind of sweet if it wasn’t so gross. I know that mothers are really attached to their children, but this just seems like a step too far into the wrong direction.

We’re not hear to talk about fetuses though. We’re here to talk about fetuses made with 3D printers. So how is the wonder of life translated to a hunk of plastic? It’s a pretty procedure actually. Fasotec takes an image of the fetus from an MRI and then run through 3D imaging software. From there, it’s just a simple trip to the 3D printer.

The finished product is actually pretty small. It only measures to about 90 x 60 x 40 milliters, but it’s about as expensive as your medical bills. The “Shape of an Angel”, as Fasotec calls it, will run you about $1,230. The cost is probably attributed to the sweet little box it comes in.

    3D Printer Fetus

I take back my claim that 3D printers are the best way to relive the good old days. I’m all for 3D printed mixtapes, but I didn’t want the traditional baby photos to turn into this. Just imagine your mother, instead of baby photos, shows your girlfriend how you looked as a fetus. That’s gotta be all kinds of awkward.

  • Google Wants Project Glass To Have A Role In Your Baby’s Life

I think we can all agree that Google showed off the potential of Project Glass during Google I/O in an extreme way. Unfortunately, not everybody is a skydiving, extreme biking, rappelling sports star. What can Project Glass do for the less extreme person? Google has started a campaign to answer that very question.

You may remember a decidedly-less extreme video during the Project Glass presentation during the keynote. It featured a mother wearing Project Glass and showing off her new-born child to her family via a Google+ hangout. The cool thing was that the existence of Project Glass allowed her to shoot all of her child’s moments in first-person. It was like filming a child’s life but with the added benefit of broadcasting it live to the family instead of sending them DVDs five months down the line.

Google has now revealed the purpose of that video – it’s called Glass Sessions. It’s the first in a series of videos that is meant to show “what it’s like to use Glass while we build it, through the eyes of a real person, in real life.” Of course, using a baby is going to tug at the cute heartstrings that have been conditioned after so many pictures of cute puppies and kittens that we see all over the Internet. It’s an effective marketing tool and will probably get a few mothers more than interested in the technology.

Remember, this is the first in a series. Google is remaining tight-lipped about what’s up next, but I’m sure it’s going to amaze us again. I’m personally hoping to see extreme uses like a mountain climber using Project Glass to snap pictures of his climb up Mt. Everest.

    Project Glass

We think Glass helps you share your life as you’re living it; from life’s big moments to everyday experiences.

Today we’re kicking off what we’re calling Glass Sessions, where you can experience what it’s like to use Glass while we build it, through the eyes of a real person, in real life. The first Glass Session follows Laetitia Gayno, the wife of a Googler, as she shares her story of welcoming a new baby, capturing every smile, and showing her entire family back in France every “first” through Hangouts.

  • Australian Baby Racks Up $1 Million Hospital Bill

John Kan and Rachel Evans from Sydney, Australia, thought they had prepared themselves well for a holiday to Vancouver; they bought extra travel insurance and covered Rachel’s pregnancy even though she was several weeks from being full-term. What they didn’t know, however, was that their insurance policy didn’t cover the baby or the birth. When Rachel went into premature labor in the airport, she was rushed to the hospital in Vancouver, where her daughter Piper was born 13 weeks early.

Because of the myriad complications that can arise in a baby so small, the family had a lengthy stay at the hospital and racked up a bill which totaled over a million dollars.

They have worked out a payment plan with the hospital, but at $300 a month, it will take them roughly 278 years to pay off. Australia’s Foreign Ministry has launched an investigation to see if there is anything they can do towards the astronomical bill, but the proud parents say they are just happy to have a healthy baby girl.

“We don’t feel our mistake was someone else’s responsibility, but obviously it is quite a large amount so any assistance we can get would be helpful,” Evans said.

While the outrageous hospital bill is quite a story–Evans says the only winner is their private insurance company, who got out of paying such an exorbitant amount–perhaps the real story is Piper’s, who survived mainly because her mother went into labor in the airport after their flight was delayed. Had Evans and Kan been in the air with an on-time flight, Piper wouldn’t have made it.

  • Alicia Silverstone Spits in Her Baby’s Mouth

Alicia Silverstone has posted on her blog “the kind life with Alicia Silverstone“, a video of her feeding her toddler son Bear chewed up food from her mouth.

“I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!”, Silver stone writes.

She doesn’t explain why she feeds her son in this manner, just that it is their favorite way of eating. Bear will crawl from across the room to get at a mouthful of Alicia’s predigested food.

The blog is an extension of her book “The Kind Diet”, and celebrates the vegan lifestyle as Silverstone sees it.

    (image)
Birds often feed their young by regurgitating food into their mouth. Silverstone has failed to recognize the fact that humans are not birds.

To clarify, I personally do not care how Alicia Silverstone feeds her child. She should be able to do what she wants as long as it doesn’t endanger the kid’s welfare. But she should be aware that the media isn’t too kind about celebrity’s eccentricities, whatever they may be. The story is being posted on blogs all over the place right now, from TMZ to the New York Daily News.

The blog itself has many followers chastising the actress for using this method to feed her child. One woman writes, “We have waaaay more germs in our mouths than do babies. Also it’s a big disservice to him if you don’t get him to chew his own food. How are you helping him? It just seems lazy to me. Do the work, cut your kid’s food up in tiny pieces so a) he can learn to eat on his own and b) you aren’t passing off germs to him. You have a fully developed immune system, he does not. Not trying to be mean or rude, but really, this is wrong on several levels.”

  • Giants Win The Super Bowl, Doritos Baby Wins Chips

Commercials are the highlight of the Super Bowl; it’s that comic relief from the unbearable tension of the high stakes football game. From naughty body painting commercials to talking heads sprouting from a body, this year’s game had many hilarious and notable spots.

According to USA Today, advertising tracking website AdMeter.co.uk announced a line-up best commercials based on their data.

With many of the funniest spots making the list, the top spot, however, belongs to a very talented baby and his (or her) annoyed grandmother.

    http://youtu.be/kds2YpA0Jf0

In the commercial a young boy proceeds to taunt the the grandma and innocent baby with a bag of Doritos from across the way in the safety of his club house. The grandmother, sick of the boy’s dastardly teasing, decides to make use of the baby’s bouncy swing. She then takes up the child, throws her power wheelchair in reverse and launches the baby across the yard. The whipper snapper nabs the bag from the hands of the surprised boy then returns safely to the porch to enjoy the snack with grandma.

    Viral Video: Overnight Sensation, Literally

Kentucky dad Adam Brown has fraternal twins that are barely 2 months old. One is a placid, easy-going boy. The other is a girl who is fussy with colic. So, like many dads, Brown makes noises at her. Baby girl calms down, even for just a bit. But, she also has a novel reaction to one sound.

This video was posted on January 18. By the next morning, it had gone viral. The video was posted on Huffington Post, and shown on “Good Morning America”, and “Jimmy Kimmel Live”.

As cynical as one can get about the world, often it’s babies and kittens that make the Internet run.
