Alicia Silverstone has posted on her blog “the kind life with Alicia Silverstone“, a video of her feeding her toddler son Bear chewed up food from her mouth.

“I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!”, Silver stone writes.

She doesn’t explain why she feeds her son in this manner, just that it is their favorite way of eating. Bear will crawl from across the room to get at a mouthful of Alicia’s predigested food.

The blog is an extension of her book “The Kind Diet”, and celebrates the vegan lifestyle as Silverstone sees it.

Birds often feed their young by regurgitating food into their mouth. Silverstone has failed to recognize the fact that humans are not birds.

To clarify, I personally do not care how Alicia Silverstone feeds her child. She should be able to do what she wants as long as it doesn’t endanger the kid’s welfare. But she should be aware that the media isn’t too kind about celebrity’s eccentricities, whatever they may be. The story is being posted on blogs all over the place right now, from TMZ to the New York Daily News.

The blog itself has many followers chastising the actress for using this method to feed her child. One woman writes, “We have waaaay more germs in our mouths than do babies. Also it’s a big disservice to him if you don’t get him to chew his own food. How are you helping him? It just seems lazy to me. Do the work, cut your kid’s food up in tiny pieces so a) he can learn to eat on his own and b) you aren’t passing off germs to him. You have a fully developed immune system, he does not. Not trying to be mean or rude, but really, this is wrong on several levels.”
