  • Taylor Swift Hires Publicist to Combat Bad Press

Singer Taylor Swift, in an effort to counter some really bad press of late, has hired publicist Tree Paine to handle her PR.

“There isn’t a publicist in NY, LA or Nashville that wouldn’t jump at an opportunity to work with someone as talented as Taylor Swift and her management team,” Paine said.

Paula Erickson represented the 24-year-old Grammy-award winning singer for the past seven years until she resigned in March.

After signing on with Swift, Paine set up a new PR company called Premium PR with a website in the works. She has worked with both the Academy of Country Music and Warner Music’s Nashville operations.

Paine sure doesn’t waste any time. She has already been busy promoting and shooting down false stories on behalf of her new client.

Swifters seem to approve her choice of Paine as her new publicist.

  • Taylor Swift Talks Jennifer Lawrence Golden Globe Photobomb

Only Taylor Swift could have such a sweet response after being the target for one of the year’s most-talked-about Golden Globe pranks on the red carpet.

For those who missed it, the “All Too Well” singer was photo-bombed by Hunger Games co-producer Jennifer Lawrence at the Golden Globes.

The worst part about the whole debacle is that Swift was in the middle of an interview with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.

So, when Swift and Seacrest crossed paths again for another brief interview at the Grammy Awards red carpet, he addressed Lawrence’s widely popular, photo-bombing stunt.

According to UPISeacrest wanted to revisit the awkward Golden Globe moment, so he asked Swift of her sentiments about it. While most would have probably been angry about being the butt of the joke, Swift handled it quite differently. The 24-year-old country singer had nothing but high regards for J-Law.

“[Lawrence] is the greatest, oh my God,” Swift said to Seacrest.

Seacrest went on to ask Swift if there was anything she’d like him to tell Lawrence at the upcoming Oscars in March. Swift eyed the camera and offered up a brief statement of encouragement to her.

“Thanks for your friendship and thanks for making amazing terrifying faces behind me on camera when I am trying to do an interview and not mess up! Good luck! I hope you win. I hope you win everything all the time!”

Swift, who actually had four Grammy nominations, went on to share her elation of the esteemed honor. “[Red] is the oldest [album] in the category,” she explained to Seacrest before the show. “I didn’t expect it and I mean, I love this album, but it came out over a year ago so the fact that it was nominated for Album of the Year is amazing.”

Although the singer had a substantial number of nominations, this was the first time she didn’t score any wins since breaking into the industry in 2006 with her first, self-titled studio album Taylor Swift

However, the singer already has seven Grammy Awards, in addition to two Golden Globe nominations.

  • Queen Latifah Talks Marrying 33 Couples At The Grammys

Queen Latifah may never forget the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

Although the biggest night in music turned out to be a memorable event for the honored nominees, they weren’t the only ones who would consider the night to be quite special.

Last night, the Queen presided over the marriages of 33 couples during the live broadcast of the 2014 Grammy Awards.

According to the Associated Press, Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens, had to be legally sworn in by the state of California to officiate the ceremony.

“You can call me Queen Commish for a little longer,” she quipped backstage Sunday night.

However, the rapper-actress-talk show host did clarify that she is not an ordained minister so her privileges would expire at the stroke of 12. She also tweeted about the expiration of her ‘super powers’ asking if anyone else wanted to get married before the midnight hour.

“It was something I took very seriously,” she said. “That is someone’s life commitment to one another, you want to make sure you do it right. That’s what sunk in for me.”

The momentous wedding ceremony took place in the aisle of the Staples Center during hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘ performance of their Grammy-nominated song “Same Love”.

The New York Times reports that the couples who were – gay, straight, old, young, of many races and many colors – came from all walks of life for the special event. So, the song was quite befitting as it became the unofficial anthem for marriage equality last year. It was also reported that Lewis’ sister Laura and her boyfriend Alex were among the couples who were married.

“To have your wedding in front of 100 million people is pretty momentous,” Latifah said. “I can say I was here and that will not leave me. I look forward to dashing off and signing all their wedding certificates.”

The Queen also tweeted her sentiments about the heart-warming opportunity.

  • Sara Bareilles, Carole King Sing ‘Brave’ at Grammys

Sara Bareilles was joined on an adjacent piano for a stellar performance of part of her hit song Brave by the legendary Carole King at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. In a medley that began with King singing Beautiful, the ladies went seamlessly into the chorus of Brave. If it wasn’t clear to everyone (it should have been) that Bareilles was simply glowing as she sang opposite one of her long time idols, it became clear during a quick interview after their performance.

“What a thrill to perform with the woman who has been such an inspiration to me,” Sara Bareilles said.

“And what a thrill to see the future of music in such good hands,” Carole King added.

Following their duet, Carole King and Sara Bareilles jointly announced Lorde as the winner of the Grammy Award Song of the Year for her hit tune Royals.

Carole King received an award the night before the Grammys–having been named 2014’s MusiCares Person of the Year at a star-studded event Friday night in L.A. Sara Bareilles attended that celebration as well.

Nominated for two Grammy Awards herself, Bareilles didn’t win, but certainly didn’t appear to be any less excited about all the event entailed.

Sara Bareilles broke on to the music scene back in 2007 for her hit song Love Song. She served as a celebrity judge during the third season of NBC’s singing competition, The Sing Off, alongside Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five.. In 2012 she placed 80th in the Top 100 Greatest Women in Music.

Did you see her performance Sunday evening with Carole King? What an excellent source of promotion that will no doubt turn out to be for Brave.

  • Jay-Z Thanks God ‘A Little Bit’ For Grammy Award

Holy Grail rapper Jay-Z definitely made a statement last night at the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

The biggest night in music, which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, actually turned out to be a big night for the rapper as well.

However, it wasn’t just a big night for the Roc Nation mogul. His wife, Beyonce also made her presence known, as she and Jay took the stage as the opening act performing her latest hit, “Drunk In Love”.

The collaborative, blowout performance was quite nostalgic as its the first since their “Crazy In Love” performance at the 2003 MTV VMA’s.

While the performance was nothing less than perfection, as he and Queen Bey set the standard for the night, fans were able to catch a glimpse of the rapper’s softer side later in the show.

When the 44-year-old rapper took the stage again to accept the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Holy Grail” which featured Justin Timberlake, his acceptance speech was a bit different from his norm.

He sauntered to the stage, playfully throwing fake punches at actor Jamie Foxx, who presented the award. Then, he got down to business.

“Thank you very much, thank you to all the producers and The-Dream, Justin, for writing this song, all the typical things,” the rapper said. He went on to thank God just “a little bit,” and accredited the universe for his union with his wife.

“I want to thank God, I mean, a little bit for this award, but also all the universe for conspiring and for putting that beautiful light of a young lady in my life,” he continued, gesturing with the Grammy gong to Beyonce who watched from the front row.

Then, he added a sweet message to his 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. “I want to tell Blue, ‘Look, Daddy got a gold sippy cup for you!’”

The rapper’s “sippy cup” reference immediately became an online sensation as one of Twitter’s biggest trending topics for the night.

In addition to the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Holy Grail,” Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake also took home the award for Best Music Video for “Suit and Tie.”

  • Kathy Griffin Proffers Justin Bieber Advice

Kathy Griffin rocked the 2014 Grammy Awards and while chatting on the red carpet proffered a few words of wisdom to Justin Bieber. Bieber, as everyone knows, was arrested last week in Miami Beach on DUI charges. He is presently lounging on a beach in Panama while lawyers do his dirty work back in the States.

The comedienne, who won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album for Calm Down Gurrl didn’t waste any time using Justin Bieber as an all too convenient punch line at the Grammys–soon after telling him what he should do to put his ducks back into that proverbial row.

During her acceptance speech she thanked Justin for “giving me his calm-down juice.” Earlier on the red carpet, however, she suggested the following while chatting with Jack Osbourne.

“My advice to Justin Bieber,” Kathy Griffin said, “is to move back in with Mom.”

She went on to say he should strum his acoustic guitar while living back at home and maybe learn a good rendition of O Canada.

Kathy Griffin, as always, flaunted her ample assets for Ryan Seacrest and the cameras before the show, as well as on stage, too. One must admit the 53-year-old does have an amazing figure. Sadly that beauty is often but a distant, foggy memory once she opens her mouth.

This was Griffin’s first appearance at a celebrity event since her brother Gary Griffin passed away from cancer Wednesday at the age of 63.

Kathy Griffin announced her brother’s passing via photos posted on Instagram.

She captioned the photo montage writing, “This AM my brave brother Gary Griffin passed away in palliative care after a brutal struggle w cancer. Our last real conversation, w my brother I loved so much, was just a few days go when I got him this signed picture from his idol, @JoeWalsh. He loved the Eagles, 70s rock, The Chicago White Sox and the Xavier “muskies”… Oh & he was funny as sh*t.”

Kathy Griffin did well to maintain her composure at the Grammy Awards Sunday following such a recent personal loss. She is likely thanking Justin Bieber for the opportunity to use his debacle as easy material to garner a few laughs from those around her, in the audience at the Grammys and viewers at home.

  • Trent Reznor Slams Grammy’s, Tweets “F–K YOU” To CBS

Singer-songwriter Trent Reznor performed at the prestigious Grammy Awards for the first time on Sunday, Jan. 26.

Reznor was slated to close the big award event in an all-star, stellar collaboration with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham.

They opened their set with the Nine Inch Nails hit “Copy of A.”

Unfortunately, the biggest night in the music industry definitely didn’t go according to plan for the former NIN front-man.

Although they did perform, the CBS network snubbed the full performance and cut it short.

When the rock-star quartet moved on to their second number, which was QOTSA’s “My God Is the Sun,” the performance was axed as the closing credits started rolling.

While it’s been noted that Reznor’s anger problems have improved over the years, the 48-year-old industrial rocker still has his moments where he goes from ‘0-60’ in matter of seconds.

This time was definitely one of those moments, because shortly after the Grammy’s Reznor took to Twitter to share his disdain of the network’s executive order by bashing the big event.

It’s quite obvious that he was angry about it, but its also probably safe to say he was a little disappointed, as he held the performance to such high regards just days prior. On Thurs. Jan 23, he tweeted confirming that they’d be taking the stage for their first-ever Grammy telecast performance.

While his actions are shocking, its not too surprising as this isn’t the first time he’s bashed the Grammy’s. According to the Hollywood Reporter, back in December 2011, the controversial vocalist – who a Best Original Score Oscar earlier that year for the Facebook film The Social Network – shared that he didn’t even know where his previous two Grammy awards were.

He also shared why he feels the Grammy’s don’t matter. “Why don’t the Grammys matter? Because it feels rigged and cheap,” he said in the 2011 interview. “Like a popularity contest that the insiders club has decided.”

  • Chrissy Teigen Photo-Bombed, But Still Looks Great

Supermodel Chrissy Teigen is certainly used to taking all kinds of photos, and most times, she’s the star of those photos and all eyes are on her. But at last night’s Grammy Awards, she and her husband, soul-singer John Legend, were photo-bombed by Neil Patrick Harris, which was hilarious.

Based on the photo–which Teigen posted on her Instagram account–Harris was seated right behind her and her husband, so he was in the perfect position to jump right into their shot and add some humor to it.

With his mouth opened and eyebrows raised, the “How I Met Your Mother” actor stuck his head directly between Teigen and Legend, and arguably gave the best photobomb of the night.

And did the couple seem to mind? Not at all. In fact, Teigen said she was very fortunate to be photo-bombed by such a likable actor. “One can only be so lucky to get a NPH photobomb,” she wrote.

On the red carpet, Teigen looked stunning in a gold colored sequenced gown that was both sexy and elegant all in one, and when she was interviewed by one of the event hosts, Chris Booker, Booker couldn’t hide the fact that he found her beautiful.

“Thank you for bringing your wife,” he told John Legend, as he made the singer hold the microphone so he could applaud. Teigen chuckled in response, and then told her husband that he better clap too, which of course he did.

Legend was also a big hit at the Grammy’s for his heartfelt performance of his latest single “All of Me,” which is a piano-driven ballad written for his wife. If you listen closely, you can hear a lot of similarities between that song and his 2004 song “Ordinary People,” which is the tune that catapulted him into to fame.

  • Miranda Lambert Part of Phil Everly Tribute

Miranda Lambert was part of a tribute to Phil Everly at The Grammy Awards on Sunday night. She and Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong sang a rendition of The Everly Brothers’ hit When Will I Be Loved. Lambert sported a slinky black dress with cutouts and a plunging neckline–showing off her new svelte and very sexy figure.

The song was preceded by a a video montage that featured country artists who had passed away during 2013, including George Jones, Ray Price, Slim Whitman, Mindy McCready, Jack Greene and Tompall Glaser.

The Everly Brothers joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001, and two of their songs–Bye Bye Love and All I Have to Do is Dream are part of the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Billie Joe Armstrong as Green Day’s front man is a five time Grammy Award winner. Miranda Lambert won a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her hit song The House That Built Me back in 2010. She received two nomination for the 2014 Grammy Awards in both the Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song categories for her hit Mama’s Broken Heart.

If you missed Miranda Lambert and Billie Joe Armstrong’s tribute to Phil Everly and The Everly Brothers (hopefully Don Everly was watching–the cameras didn’t pan the audience to see if he was there, so he likely wasn’t) you missed one of several poignant moments during the Grammy Awards. The Voice’s Blake Shelton, who performed on stage with Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard in their resurrection of the Highwaymen, was no doubt very proud of his beautiful and talented wife.

  • Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr: Beatles Reunited

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr performed together on stage at the 2014 Grammy Awards Sunday evening, marking a “sort-of” reunion for The Beatles. To call it a full fledged reunion would be a huge overstatement, given Ringo’s answer to one of Ryan Seacrest’s questions.

On the Grammy Awards red carpet prior to the show, Seacrest ask The Beatles drummer when the last time was he had performed with Paul McCartney–expecting to hear something like “decades ago.” Instead, Ringo sort of floored everyone.

“Last week,” he said. In truth the two are close friends and get together frequently to jam and even perform on stage at special events.

The two men looked dapper on the red carpet, as well as backstage before the show. Both in their 70s, it’s hard to believe they first performed together in the United States almost exactly 50 years ago.

Regardless of what went on behind the scenes it was rather monumental for diehard Beatles fans to see McCartney and Starr together on stage, all the while knowing Yoko Ono (John Lennon’s widow) and Olivia Harrison (George Harrison’s widow) were in the audience witnessing the live event. It was–on some level–a chill inducing moment. Of course it would have been even better had Paul and Ringo performed something from Beatles history, but they (he, actually–not “they”) did one of McCartney’s new songs called Queenie Eye.

The Beatles were awarded an incredibly overdue Lifetime Achievement award at a pre-telecast segment of The Grammy Awards.

Beatles fans hoped and prayed for a bona fide reunion of the fab four following their split back in 1970. That dream, however, was shattered in 1980 with the murder of John Lennon. George Harrison passed away in 2001 of cancer.

CBS will air a special called The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles on February 9th–a tribute to their first U.S. appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

What was your reaction to seeing Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on stage together at the 2014 Grammy Awards on Sunday?

  • Grammy Awards: Did Your Predictions Come True?

Well, the Grammys were last night and as expected there were twists, turns, upsets, and some screechy performances. Daft Punk emerged the big winners of the night, snagging five grammy awards, including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year”.

Daft Punk is now the toast of their native France, where congratulations have been pouring in. Did you expect them to win as big as they did?

I confess I did not. I was hit and miss with my predictions as you can see.

Here’s the results of the predictions for the night compared to the actual results.

Predicted Record of the Year: Imagine Dragons, “Radioactive”

Actual Winner: Daft Punk, “Get Lucky”

This is a case of me having little faith in the voters appreciation of veterans and leaning towards everything current and trendy. I was wrong and I’m actually glad to have been wrong. “Get Lucky” was a catchy throw back to late 70s/early 80s funk and a great song.

Predicted Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, “Red”

Actual Winner: Daft Punk, “Random Access Memories”

I don’t know who was more shocked by the results, myself or Taylor Swift:

She recovered brilliantly, though. Again, this was a case of me assuming that popularity would win out in the end. “Red” sold over 1.21 million albums in a single week, the biggest sales numbers of any album since the early 2000s. Apparently more was at state for album of the year than sales.

Now for the predictions I got right.

Song of the Year: Lorde, “Royals”

“Royals” was one of those songs that was everywhere last year. Amazing considering its less than glamourous origin: Soundcloud. The practically viral nature of the single resonated with the self aware “Selfie” generation, and a Grammy award was to be expected for the new artist.

Best New Artist: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Really, did anyone expect anyone else to win this? Given all the massive exposure combined with all the other awards that had been collected on the way to and at the Grammys (including Rap awards over veterans like Jay Z), it was inevitable. However, there is such a thing as over-exposed. While I did expect Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to dominate at the awards, I also anticipate they have already peaked. Do not expect much or any of the same next year.

How did your predictions go? Share below!

  • Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Make History with “Same Love” Grammy Performance

During last night’s Grammy awards show, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis sung their mega-hit “Same Love.” The artists performed like usual with backing vocals from Mary Lambert, but this wasn’t their typical performance. About half way through it, 33 couples gathered into the aisles to be wed by Queen Latifah.

Queen Latifah, who introduced Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, got deputized by the Los Angeles County sometime prior to the show. After she officiated the ceremony for the 33 couples, Madonna appeared in an all-white pantsuit. She sang “Open Your Heart,” which later transitions back to “Same Love.”

The couples included in the special Grammys ceremonial weddings were gay, straight, old, young and many different races. One of those couples also had a special connection to Lewis. His sister, Laura, married her boyfriend, Alex, during the Grammy performance.

According to the New York Times, Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich planned the segment to emphasize the delicate nature of the subject of gay marriage. Ehrlich said the segment represented his own personal views, but didn’t want to give the misconception that these views represent the Academy or CBS Television Network.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were nominated for seven Grammy awards and won four of them. They won best rap album, best rap performance, best new artist and best rap song for “Thrift Shop.”

Twitter went crazy sending support, congratulations and admiration to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for their historical performance.

Lewis told the New York Times that the weddings “will be in our minds the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing.”

  • LL Cool J Defends Justin Bieber Prior to Grammys

LL Cool J hosts the Grammy Awards Sunday night for the second year in a row. During preparations for the show this weekend he dished about getting ready as well as about Justin Bieber’s recent arrest. On Saturday night LL Cool J joined Hennessy in hosting a pre-Grammy dinner at The Bazaar at SLS Hotel in West Hollywood.

“Just being a part of it is great,” he said about the Grammys during an interview with Us Weekly. “I mean, winning is always going to be the best. I mean, nothing tops winning! But it’s always fun being involved and it’s fun hosting. This is a good time.”

The 46-year-old dished about Bieber, too, saying, “At the end of the day, I mean, he’s 19 years old. So, you gotta cut the guy some slack you know, he’s not like a 35-year-old with penny loafers and khaki’s on and you know, dropping his kids off at school and drag racing in a Lambo — that would be a little different! But I think we just gotta remember what we were doing at 19.”

The NCIS: Los Angeles star believes that with some strong support from his family and mentors he can get back on track and continue making music.

“Just be merciful, and hopefully he’ll learn from his mistakes,” he said. “I am not one to really pounce on people. I’m all for justice, don’t get me wrong, but I am not one to pounce on people.”

Will you be tuning in to watch LL Cool J host the 2014 Grammy Awards Sunday night at 8 PM? It airs on CBS stations and will feature some of the best musical acts of the whole year. Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are both scheduled to perform, but sources say they won’t sing together.

Just a couple of hours ago, LL Cool J tweeted his excitement during the pre-Grammy Award festivities.

It doesn’t get a lot more exciting than posing for a photo with Paul McCartney. Who doesn’t want to switch places with LL Cool J right now?

  • Grammy Awards: Who Will Win Big?

Award season is upon us again, with tonight being centered on honoring those in music who excelled in their genres. When it comes to the Grammys, there have been some noted snubs, but now it is time to focus on talents that are in the running for the awards.

Who is it that is likely to walk away from the Grammys with the big awards of the night? Here are some of my predictions:

Record of the Year: Imagine Dragons, “Radioactive”

I don’t particularly care for this song, but there’s no denying it was everywhere. EVERYWHERE. It wasn’t just played on the radio every five minutes (like “Blurred Lines”), it was in movie trailers. It was in television show trailers. It was in video game trailers. If someone had a trailer to their existence in 2013, “Radioactive” would have been playing in the background.

Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, “Red”

Her album’s success was far and away better than anyone else in the category with her. And with Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience mysteriously absent, there is no real obvious competition for her. If there were an upset of any kind, it will come from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s “The Heist”.

Song of the Year: Lorde, “Royals”

A song that put a relative unknown on the map, Royals came out of seemingly nowhere as other pop princesses spent much of 2013 fighting for dominance. “Same Love” has a very powerful message, but it’s just a question of whether or not the Grammys feel the actual song is good enough for the honor. If Macklemore & Ryan Lewis win for another major category, it might be a good indicator.

Best New Artist: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

If they don’t walk away with this award, I will be truly shocked. These new faces have been everywhere. Though…some think they may have worn out their welcome and won’t see the same level of success outside of 2013. Nevertheless, Macklemore made a big impact last year. The only other person I saw talked about nearly as much was Ed Sheeran. But I think they’ll edge him out.

  • Grammys 2014: Are Beyonce and Madonna Performing?

Surprise performances add excitement to the Grammy awards, which is why people love to speculate about them. Two rumored surprise acts have many people buzzing with delight. Music insiders believe Beyonce and Madonna are secret performers at the 2014 Grammy awards.

The LA Tiimes reports that a source confirmed Beyonce and Madonna’s performances at the Grammys. However, they won’t be singing together. Beyonce will sing some songs from her secretly released self-titled album. This will be the first televised performance of songs from this one.

For her secret act, Madonna is singing background vocals for an already announced Grammy performer. She fueled these performance rumors even more by posting a picture on Instagram. On the picture Beyonce kisses Mercy James, Madonna’s adopted daughter. Madonna captioned the photo by saying, “Mercy James gets a big fat one from Queen. B!”

This picture gave their fans the impression that the two are bonding while rehearsing for the Grammys.

When the L.A Times asked Grammy Awards show producer Ken Ehrlich about the possibility of Beyonce and Madonna being surprise performers, he didn’t confirm or deny either one. He did, however, say things that made these rumors seem real.

“Let’s put it this way … we have a really great history that goes back to the early days of Destiny’s Child. I love working with [Beyonce]. She’s incredible. She is so into what it is that she does and making sure that everybody who sees her walks away saying, ‘wow.’ Should she be on the show this year? I would think that the potential is there for that kind of moment,” Ehrlich told the L.A Times.

A few of the other 2014 Grammy performers are Sara Bareilles with Carole King, Kendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons, Robin Thicke with Chicago, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Taylor Swift, Pink with Fun.’s Nate Reuss, and Katy Perry.

Beyonce is becoming so efficient at keeping secrets that her fans probably can’t handle anymore of them. This Grammy surprise might just give them joy overload if it proves true.

  • Pharrell Williams Nabs Oscar Nomination

If you thought multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams had a big year in 2013, just brace yourself. It looks as though 2014 will only elevate his career even more.

Williams, who was a fixture on the Billboard charts last year with hits like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” has added  yet another accolade to his list.

The N.E.R.D. rapper has received his first Oscar nomination for his work hit record “Happy,” which appeared on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack album.

According to ABC News, when Williams was asked about his reaction to the nomination, he was literally rendered speechless.

“Uh, I’m speechless,” he said in an interview on Thursday, Jan. 16. “Man, I am over the moon.” He was then asked what he was doing when he received the news of the esteemed nomination. But, once again he was still at a loss for words. “Man, I’m sorry, I don’t know,” he said.

Although he couldn’t recount what he was actually doing at the time he received the news, he did note “Happy” as ‘one of his best works.’ He shared that the most gratifying aspect of the record was that he made it with his eyes closed.

    (image)

Williams, also known as Skateboard P., has been quoted for “hearing colors” which sets the tone of his music, so his declaration of the “eyes wide shut” creation is yet façade of his eclectic musicianship. The Lap Dance rapper also recounted that the song was actually recorded a total of nine times before reaching a level of perfection that was satisfactory to his standards.

    (image)

“It’s some of my best work and that’s because in the process I made it with my eyes closed,” he said. “That’s not a reflection of any sort of superiority in any way, shape or form. I didn’t do a lot of looking around to try and figure it out. I just closed my eyes and made it by feeling it and I think that’s why I am most proud of it.”

However, the Oscar nomination isn’t the only form of recognition he’s received for his blow-out year in music. Williams is a driving force for the 2014 Grammy Awards. He has seven Grammy nominations in five different categories including ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’, and ‘Producer of the Year’.

  • Bruno Mars Scores Multiple Grammy Nominations

Bruno Mars received several nominations at Friday night’s Grammy awards nomination show. The Hawaiian born talent is no stranger to the accolades, but this year has certainly been a momentous one for him. His album, Unorthodox Jukebox soared on the Billboard charts ever since its release, and tracks from that album made their way to the very top.

Bruno received nominations for Record of the Year and Song for the Year for his smash hit single, Locked Out of Heaven. He got a nod for Best Solo Performance for his heart wrenching ballad, When I Was Your Man. And he was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for Unorthodox Jukebox.

Of course these nominations don’t mean instant wins for Bruno Mars. He is up against some incredibly stiff competition at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Both Lorde–the 17-year-old singer from New Zealand, known for her hit song Royals, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Thrift Shop, Same Love) were nominated in some of the same categories as Mars.

Twitter fans chimed in with their excitement about Bruno Mars’ Grammy Award nominations.

Do you think Bruno Mars’ album and singles have what it takes to win one or more Grammy Awards? Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little while longer to find out. The 56th Annual Grammy Awards are set to air on January 26th at 8PM on CBS. Will you be tuning in to see if Bruno scores one or more Grammy Awards?
