Stephanie McMahon Talks Wrestling Return

Stephanie McMahon’s whole life has been about wrestling. Stephanie has spent a lot of time in the ring but she was laid off from the WWE for 11 years and recently talked about her return and what it meant to her.

While Stephanie was laid off she started a family and by the time she was ready to return to the ring she had become a mother. While many mothers might be a little hesitant to allow their children to watch them wrestle, Stephanie said that she was happy to have her daughters there.

“I brought my daughters actually to Staples Center to watch me live in the ring — to watch their mother compete in the ring. It was a very proud moment for me. I worked incredibly hard for it and I wanted them to be a part of that experience. They supported me in my training all along and it took a lot of extra time for me to really get into shape to be able to compete in the ring. It’s not as easy as it looks and it had been almost 11 years since I had actually wrestled. And yes, I did explain to my daughters, but I’ve been explaining all along because as you know, I’m married to Triple H, who in my opinion is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. And in order to watch their dad compete against the likes of Brock Lesnar or The Undertaker, I would always explain to them exactly what was happening in the ring, how we make things look like they hurt when they don’t, and the story that we’re telling. They’re involved and aware of what’s going to happen, but at the same time just like our fans who know the difference between storytelling and reality, they still allow themselves to get swept up in the story and have an awesome time. When I came back from the ring and I walked backstage, I ran into my children and my mother, who were all clapping and chanting, “You still got it.” It was something I will never forget,” she said.

Stephanie spends a little less time wrestling these days and has moved up to help run the company with her father. She is also married to wrestler Triple H and said that while many people think they know her by how she acts on television, the real Stephanie McMahon is much different than the character she plays on WWE.

Nevertheless, she said that she likes playing the bad guy on television and has fun doing so.

“I just like to have fun. Being able to play the bad guy as my character is on TV as a member of The Authority and being probably one of the ultimate villains on the show. I love to play the bad guy. It’s just so much fun. And yes, it is a dramatic contrast to who I am in real life, but I like to have a lot of fun in real life too. Maybe it’s my alter ego coming out, I’m not sure, but I certainly do like to embrace the dark side on camera,” she added.

Stephanie said that she is proud to be a part of the most powerful wrestling family in the industry and hopes to one day follow in her father’s footsteps and take full control of the WWE.
