Country music superstar, Randy Travis, was admitted to the Baylor Medical Center at McKinney on Sunday, July 7, and was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy. According to the Mayo Clinic, cardiomyopathy is a “disease that weakens and enlarges your heart muscles”. Viral cardiomyopathy is brought on by a virus that attacks the muscles of the heart, causing the heart to beat slower and can essentially lead to heart failure.

Since being admitted to the hospital, Travis has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and has been listed in critical condition. After undergoing a procedure to have a pump inserted with a catheter, to help with blood flow, doctors were able to make an announcement that Travis was stable and was showing signs of improvement.

His condition has stabilized, and he has shown signs of improvement. On behalf of Mr. Travis’ family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received.

However, hours after releasing that statement, according to Travis’ publicist, Kirt Webster, Travis suffered a stroke late Wednesday evening while being treated for his congestive heart failure. He is currently undergoing surgery to try and relieve the pressure from his brain and he is still listed in critical condition.

The love and support from Travis’ family, friends, fans, and fellow country music singers has continued to pour out during this hard time, and the family continues to request prayers and support.
