Penelope Cruz Makes Gwyneth Paltrow Jealous, Signs On To ‘This Man, This Woman’

Penelope Cruz can add making Gwyneth Paltrow jealous to her list of life’s accomplishments. So what did she do to make the Goop founder feel that way?

It apparently took place during the filming of their hit film Mortdecai, in which both Gwyneth Paltrow and Penelope Cruz star, along with Johnny Depp.

Paltrow was dishing about her experience on set–kissing Johnny Depp–to Rachael Ray. That’s when she admitted her jealousy.

“I ruined probably 15 takes–which was funny at first,” Paltrow explained about their kissing scene, in which they both keep gagging because of Depp’s character’s automatic gag reflex. “Until you look around and the crew’s like, ‘Oh my God.’ I honestly was digging my nails into my skin to not laugh by the end of the thing because I was like, ‘I’m going to get fired!’”

It seems she felt like she was missing out on something Cruz was getting, however.

“How come Penelope Cruz gets to do [Blow], where they’re all sexy and making out and I’m making out with this, like, wig on his face?” Paltrow said she lamented during filming.

So besides making Gwyneth Paltrow jealous, what else has Penelope Cruz been up to? In addition to joining the cast of Zoolander 2, she, along with Diane Kruger, are reportedly in final talks to star in Isabel Coixet’s next film, This Man, This Woman. Coixet’s most recent film, Nobody Wants The Night, opens at the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival.

Deadline reports that This Man, This Woman “is a beloved script by the writer of Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. An estranged man, Matt Heller, and a woman, Martha Parks (Cruz) encounter each other by chance on a plane, and relive memories of their turbulent romantic relationship. Kruger will play Kirsty Sachs, a talk show host who has an affair with Heller and changes the course of his whirlwind relationship with Parks. They will land their male lead quickly and the whole thing’s on a fast track.”

Producer Mike Lobell had the following to say about the upcoming film.

“It feels like a minor miracle to finally bring this passion of mine to the screen and to put together this dream cast including the superbly talented Penelope Cruz and Diane Kruger who are the perfect actresses to bring these multi-layered characters to life. Combined with an extraordinary director to help realize Freddie’s amazing script, there must be a movie God after all.”
