Ozzy Osbourne was honored on Sunday, November 9 at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards.

The leader of Black Sabbath received the Global Icon Award for his contributions and achievements in the music industry.

“For four decades the Prince of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen,” Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash said of the 65-year-old rocker. “This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats, but to me is a gentle man and a gentleman.”

“I don’t know where they got this icon [expletive] from, but it’s good to be here tonight,” Osbourne said during his acceptance speech. “God bless you all, thank you for coming.”

Throughout his career as a solo artist and member of Black Sabbath, Osbourne has sold over 100 million albums. In September, Ozzy announced that Black Sabbath would be recording another album and would be going on their final tour.

“The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great,” he told the Metal Hammer. “We all made friends, we didn’t [expletive] around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we’re going to do one more album and a final tour.”

Aside from his music career, Ozzy and his family starred in the MTV reality series The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005. Earlier this month, Ozzy’s wife Sharon announced that they would be returning for a miniseries, which will include approximately eight episodes.

“At most there’ll be only six to eight episodes and it’s a catch-up on our lives and where we are now because it’s been so long [since we’ve] been seen as a family, and our family has grown,” she explained. “It was all my husband’s doing because he looked back on his life and he said, ‘I wish we could have done ‘The Osbournes’ now where I’m clean and sober.’”
