Netflix announced this morning that it is exclusively offering the first season of New Zealand comedy series Short Poppies starting on April 3rd.
The show is written by and stars Rhys Darby (Murray from Flight of the Conchords). It also features Stephen Merchant from The Office (British) and Extras. Netflix just released this clip, which includes both of them:
The premise of Short Poppies is as follows:
The show follows journalist, David Farrier as he meets the not so ordinary characters in a small New Zealand town, all played by Darby. What we discover is that the ordinary New Zealander is anything but boring in this hilarious, quirky mockumentary.
The show has been in the works since 2012. Here’s what’s happened with it since then:
Earlier this week, Netflix announced another comedy series it’s getting next year. It’s called Grace and Frankie, and stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
