Monica Lewinsky Called A “Narcissistic Loony Toon” By Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton is still being asked about Monica Lewinsky nearly fifteen years after her husband’s presidency. It seems she’s been quizzed on everything as 2016 looms for the potential presidential contender. Who’s asking the hard questions this time? None other than People Magazine.

The full interview will be published in Friday’s edition, but news outlets like E! Online and CNN are picking up the soundbites now, especially the one where Clinton calls Lewinsky a “narcissistic loony toon”.

Did Clinton read the Vanity Fair article in which Lewinksi said “I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”? “No,” Clinton said in the interview, “I dealt with all of that in my book Living History. That was a long time ago. I certainly have moved on.”

People Magazine isn’t the only one bringing up Lewinsky. In January, Rand Paul brought up the scandal. “One of the workplace laws and rules that I think are good is that bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office,” he said, “and I think really the media seems to have given President Clinton a pass on this.”

Others, like David Letterman, regret how much attention he and other members of the media gave Lewinsky. “I started to feel bad, because myself, and other people with shows like this, made relentless jokes about the poor woman. And she was a kid!” He said, “with some perspective, you realize this is a sad human situation.”

How does this bode for Clinton as she enters a presidential race? Has Lewinsky managed to move on with her life? Does the public really care about either of these questions?

It’s certain that some would rather that we drop this topic of conservation now and forever.
