Miley Cyrus has won the coveted “Best Artist of 2013” award from MTV after her album “Bangerz” tore up the charts this year.
Cyrus kept us all watching and talking with her sexed-up performances and videos, namely for “Wrecking Ball”, which has already been parodied too many times to count. The 21-year old has said that while she’s actively trying to push boundaries, it took her by surprise when everyone reacted so hugely to her VMAs performance with Robin Thicke.
“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” she said. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me! How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance… anyone that performs, that’s what you’re looking for. You’re wanting to make history.”
Cyrus said that she and Thicke knew at the time that what they were doing would get tongues wagging, but that was the point.
“Me and Robin the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now.’ What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it,” she said.
