Lupita Nyong’o Disappointed in “Lack of Inclusion” at Oscars

Lupita Nyong’o spoke out via social media, voicing her disappointment in the lack of diversity in the 2016 Academy Award nominations. This is the second year straight without nominees for people of color.

Taking to Instagram, the 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner shared her feelings on the controversial topic.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Baldwin #manystoriesmanyvoices,” Lupita Nyong’o captioned her post.

Lupita Nyong’o’s post follows Jada Pinkett Smith’s call to boycott this year’s Oscars and Spike Lee’s criticism of the lack of diversity and inclusion.

Lupita Nyong’o doesn’t mention the boycott or her intentions with regard to it.

What’s your take on the lack of diversity in this year’s Academy Award nominations? Do you believe it is a slight on behalf of the academy or were there simply no people of color in the films they deemed best?

The argument isn’t solely waged by people of color. In addition to Lupita Nyong’o, Spike Lee, and Jada Pinkett Smith, actor George Clooney believes Hollywood as a whole is responsible for not creating enough roles for Blacks and Latinos.
