Lorraine Bracco Joins Fox’s “Mulaney”-Find Out who else Inked Major TV Deals this week

Several series, still in pre-production, landed A-list stars to head their upcoming pilots. Other TV programs gained perfectly-casted guest stars for their next season. Looking back on the week, these are the biggest casting reveals in television news.

David Schwimmer plans a television comeback. He will star in Irreversible, an upcoming ABC comedy pilot. This is his first major television starring role since Friends, which ended ten years ago. Schwimmer plays Andy, one-half of a self-absorbed couple. Irreversible is based on a hit Israeli series called Bilti Hafich. The series will partly rely on improv comedy, like Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Season 2 of NBC’s Hannibal just got a bit more devious. Michael Pitt has been cast as Mason Verger; Fans of the movies and books are already quite familiar with the role. In the 2001 Hannibal movie, Gary Oldman played an older version of the character. Verger is an unstable wealthy patient of Dr. Hannibal. The two characters have a cat and mouse type relationship. Pitt won’t make his debut on Hannibal until later in the second season. His last major television role was on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Canadian actress Katharine Isabelle was also recently cast as Verger’s sister Margot. She is best known for playing Ginger in the Ginger Snaps horror movies-a cult favorite.

Penny Marshall and Lorraine Bracco are about to become one funny lesbian couple. Both actresses have been cast in Fox’s upcoming series Mulaney. The series follows an aspiring comedian living “under the influence of his boss, roommates and neighbor.” Marshall and Bracco first appear on the second episode of Mulaney as characters named Tutti and Vaughn, who are close friends of Mulaney’s neighbor Oscar.  The series premieres later this year.

The How I Met Your Mother spinoff is looking for a new mom. How I Met Your Dad started their casting search this week. The series has five main characters and one narrator. The show’s heroine, named Sally, is described as “vibrant, messy and unpredictable — a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life.” Her four best friends include: her older gay brother, Danny, and his husband Todd, her sexy party girl bestie Juliet, and her hot-nerdy friend Frank.
