While Final Fantasy fans eagerly await any scrap of Final Fantasy XV news, as well as the relaunch of the Final Fantasy XIV MMO as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Square Enix is pushing ahead with its third and final Final Fantasy XIII game.
Titled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the game will once again star heroine Lightning as she battles for Pulse. Today, the first trailer for the title was revealed. It shows Lightning as she awakens and explores a new, heavily religious world. It even shows some battle gameplay in which Lightning fights on her own.
Though there is plenty of clock symbolism in the trailer, it doesn’t show off one mechanic that is unique to this Final Fantasy game. The title will have a day/night cycle, and unrepeatable events will happen throughout the game that players may or may not be around to experience. It’s reminiscent of, but not the same as, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Players will have to start several games to see everything the title has to offer.
