Many have come in with hot takes following Holly Holm’s shocking defeat of Ronda Rousey. Former boxing champ Laila Ali is one of them.
“She didn’t shock me, of course not. I’m familiar with Holly Holm, she’s a talented boxer, she’s a world champion, she’s got MMA background, and obviously was no chump. So I’m excited for her, and hopefully she’ll get the exposure she needs to take her career to the next level,” Ali told TMZ.
“I don’t think I need to say that. It’s obvious who the better fighter was … It’s not even about her at this point. I think she can watch the tape and see what she needs to work on … In order to be the best in the world, you definitely don’t EVER get beat up like that in your prime, period.”
This isn’t the first time that Laila Ali has been publicly critical of Ronda Rousey. Discussing the MMA star’s hypothetical shift to boxing, Ali questioned whether of not she had the skill set to succeed in that world.
“She’s great at UFC,” Ali says, “but the things you need as a boxer, she doesn’t have yet: The head movement, the way she throws her punches. She’s not a boxer. I know she does some training and I don’t know what she’s going to do, but it’s a whole other skill set.”
Ali definitely isn’t the only person who’s been verbal about Rousey after her loss.
“THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR NOT TOUCHING GLOVES!” wrote Lady Gaga on Instagram.
Donald Trump, unsurprisingly, gave his two cents.
Glad to see that @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten – not a nice person!
