Kyra Sedgwick Will Make A Return To Television

Kyra Sedgwick is making a return to the small screen. It won’t be as Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson in The Closer but as a guest-star in two episodes of the Andy Samberg action comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Sedgwick will play Madeline Wuntch, the archrival to Captain Holt, the character played by Andre Braugher. Wuntch is a Deputy Chief with a higher rank than Holt, her job is to evaluate all of the precincts. Her goal is take down Holt and the entire Nine-Nine squad.

Sedgwick starred in The Closer as Deputy Johnson for seven seasons. The TNT cable show went off the air in 2012. Johnson was in charge of the Priority Homicide Division of the LAPD and had an uncanny ability to read people in order to get confessions and help solve cases. Sedgwick’s performance as Johnson earned her a Golden Globe Award in 2007 and an Emmy Award in 2010.

The actress also has several films that are currently completed or in post production, including the Philip Roth adaptation The Humbling. The film was directed by Barry Levinson and also stars Al Pacino and Greta Gerwig.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will return for season two on September 28. The premiere season of the comedy was a pleasant success for Fox. The show won a Golden Globe in 2014 for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and its star Andy Samberg also took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

You can see Sedgwick on Brooklyn Nine-Nine in the second episode of season two. It is scheduled to air on October 5 on Fox.
