Jennifer Connelly starred in the film Labyrinth with David Bowie almost 30 years ago, and on Monday–just a day after Bowie died of cancer–she recalled the experience.

“I met David Bowie when I was 14 and he became a hero to me–because he was an artist, and because he was a genius who had the time to be kind,” Connelly said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “I’d never met such an extraordinary artist before, and I haven’t since — the world will be a greyer place without him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
David Bowie played the role of Jareth in Labyrinth. Jennifer Connelly was Sarah. Jareth took Sarah’s half brother away while she was babysitting. She had to complete his labyrinth in 11 hours to prevent the baby from turning into a goblin.
Jennifer Connelly is just one of many celebrities in the music and film worlds mourning the passing of David Bowie.
