Grant Gustin Shows Off his New ‘Flash’ Look

DC Comics fans finally have something new to debate. The CW’s new series about The Flash  revealed a teaser of his new snazzy suit.

The Flash doesn’t begin production for another week. However, the first official picture of Grant Gustin in his Flash costume was shown today. To not give too much away too soon, the production team only exposed the very top half of his new outfit.

Colleen Atwood designed The Flash’s new costume. She is an Oscar-winning designer, and also designed the costume used on The Flash’s parent show Arrow. Atwood design credits include costumes for such movies as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Sweeney Todd:The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Arrow introduced The Flash’s origin story in December; Barry Allen appeared in the two part Arrow mid-season finale. Originally, The Flash and Arrow’s executive producers wanted to make a backdoor pilot with Gustin, similar to what another hit CW show did last pilot season. The Vampire Diaries aired a backdoor pilot of their spin-off The Originals. In November, Arrow and The Flash’s team changed their backdoor pilot plans. The Flash received an order for a full stand-alone pilot.

As a Central City assistant police forensic-investigator, Allen comes to Starling City to investigate a chain of unsolved robberies that may have a connection to something tragic in his past. Allen develops his powers of super speed through a freak accident.

The cast includes John Wesley Shipp (who played Barry Allen from the 90s version of Flash), Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, and Rick Cosnett.

If picked up for a full series, Flash will likely air in the fall of 2014. The high profile nature of this pilot almost guarantees it a 10-episode order, especially considering the CW’s past success with DC Comics series. Smallville about a young Clark Kent lasted ten seasons, and Arrow’s audience continues to grow. It has already been renewed for a third season.
