“Fifty Shades Of Grey” To Get Valentine’s Day Release

“Fifty Shades Of Grey”–the film version–has seen a lot of changes this year, and it hasn’t even begun filming yet.

The movie adaptation of the enormously successful books created a ton of buzz when it was first announced, as fans began trying to figure out who would be cast as their beloved characters. Then, when word got out that “Sons Of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam would be playing Christian Grey, the world seemed divided on whether or not he would be a good fit. Twitter and other social networks blew up with opinions, suggestions, and rants about the casting choice, and soon Hunnam backed out of the role, citing scheduling issues.

Now, the producers say they need a little more time to prepare Hunnam’s replacement–Irish actor Jamie Dornan–and won’t be sticking to the original summer of 2014 release date. Instead, they’ll be putting it out on Valentine’s Day of 2015, which will make for an interesting night at the box office.

The move also anticipates the other releases the film will be up against–like “Guardians Of The Galaxy”–as well as big events, like the World Cup in Brazil.

“We see this movie as a global event,” Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said. “The strength of this book is really worldwide, so we want to be able to take advantage of women who are invariably on vacation with their families during the month of August in Europe.”
