Elizabeth Vargas opened up about her struggle with alcohol dependency back in November, and admitted that she had sought treatment in a facility.
Now, less than a year later, Vargas has announced that she is returning to a rehab facility to undergo treatment once again.
“While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center,” Vargas said in a statement. “As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process. I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down, and for that I am ashamed and sorry.”
“I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time,” she added.
Vargas has admitted that her struggle with alcohol has taken its toll on her family, including her husband Marc Cohn and her two children Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 8. So far they have stuck beside her, but now it seems that Cohn has decided to call it quits.
According to a source, the couple, who wed in 2002, have decided to file for divorce. “Marc and Elizabeth are in divorce proceedings,” the source said. “The kids are with him in New York while she seeks treatment.”
While Cohn may be moving on from his estranged wife, he said he does want her to get better. “On behalf of Elizabeth’s family we are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well,” Cohn told People.
