Elizabeth Olsen Doesn’t Want Twitter; She Wants To Disappear

Elizabeth Olsen spoke out recently about why her fans can’t find her on social media sites, and admitted that she doesn’t really want to be found.

In an age when most celebrities are somewhat accessible to their hoards of fans through Twitter or Instagram, Olsen says she’d rather not put her life on display in such an intimate way.

“I don’t [use] social media, and I feel like that’s how people control their image. My image, in my mind, is just to disappear. I just want people to see the work that I’m proud of. I feel like you let people touch you when you have Instagram or Twitter, and I don’t want to be touched all the time. I’m not going to do it—ever,” Olsen said in Fashion Magazine.

The formidable actress–sister to those Olsens–has kept audiences and critics alike captivated since she broke onto the scene with Martha Marcy May Marlene, an indie film that garnered huge praise for her in 2011. Since then, she’s taken on roles that have a higher profile, acting opposite Josh Brolin in Old Boy and killing it as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

The Avengers sequel won’t hit theaters until May 1, but it’s already making headlines with several newly-released clips, including one that aired at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night. But the big roles in super-budget action films don’t mean she’s forgotten about how she got started; last year, Olsen told Marie Claire that everything has been a learning process.

“I didn’t really have another option—those were the jobs I was getting. I feel very lucky that the reviewers have been on my side, even when it comes to a project that isn’t so great. I was seizing every opportunity. I’m not embarrassed by my work in them or anything—it’s all learning.”
