Eddie Redmayne: “The Danish Girl” Star Has Very Generous Side

Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for The Theory of Everything and now stars as a transgender woman in The Danish Girl. He even recently admitted he wanted very badly to be cast in the Harry Potter series of films, but “never got the call.”

Something fans might not know about Eddie Redmayne involves his sense of generosity toward fledgling actors–especially students living in London who are studying the craft.

It was during a recent interview with British GQ that the actor talked of how expensive it is to live in London–especially if one is an aspiring actor.

“The greatest privilege that I had was that my parents lived in London,” Eddie Redmayne said. “So when I was out of university and out of work for a year, working in a pub, I didn’t pay rent.”

He admitted he occasionally helps out by paying a month’s rent for a few aspiring actors–many of whom have reached out to him to discuss the struggles of keeping afloat financially in London.

“I get letters from people trying to go to drama school and needing to pay their rent. And so that’s something I occasionally do,” Eddie Redmayne said. “It’s impossibly expensive to live in London.”

Who knew that in addition to being an award-winning actor, that Eddie Redmayne is also a philanthropist of sorts?

One day when he is a much older man he will no doubt be admired for his generosity as much as for his talent.

Doesn’t this make you respect Eddie Redmayne even more?
