Dexter Season 7 Gets a New Villain in Chuck’s Yvonne Strahovski

Chuck’s Yvone Strahovski is the next addition to the upcoming season of Dexter. Whether or not she will play the villain is unclear, but they have announced a multi-episode contract with the blonde bombshell. It is typical of the shows producers to bring on one or two more characters each season. One of them invariably turns into or turn out to be a serial killer.

Strahovski’s character is described in the press notes as “a strong, independent woman with a past that she’s struggled to put behind her.” Miami metro recruits her to help solve some old cases along side Dexter. Along the way he begins to wonder if she is the woman she claims to be.

– Here there be spoilers –

This certainly sounds like the making of a Dexter season, and Strahovski could definitely be the villain. Or they could just be leading us in this direction and she turns out to be a love interest. If she is the serial killer, she will be the second featured on the show behind Julia Stiles.

This is just one man’s opinion, but that was probably the worst season of the show yet. I’m one that believes the show went downhill after Rita was killed and the fifth season is just lame to me. The show did pick up last season, and never came to a conclusion with the recurring Doomsday Killer plot, so it is possible that Strahvki’s character is not a killer at all.

Last season ended with Debra Morgan still thinking she is in love with her adopted brother, who she also discovers is a serial killer. The new female cast member may have been added to help bring a conclusion to this sub-plot. We are just going to have to watch to find out.

However the seventh season goes, the former Chuck star is a cool addition to the cast.

She is joined by Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, James Remar, Ray Stevenson and Jason Gedick, who have all signed up for the the seventh season.

Dexter returns to Showtime September 30th.
