Delta Airlines Employees Busted for Drug Trafficking

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that drug runners are intelligent individuals. Now, that statement is a gross generalization on my part, as I’m sure there are some guys and gals out there who are Ivy League-style traffickers, utilizing all sorts of crafty tactics to ensure their product hits the streets. However, when would-criminals leave their drugs at the airport, it’s hard not to label them all as incompetent morons. After all, if you’re going to put your life and your freedom on the line for this sort of work, you might want to pay better attention to what’s going on.

Such is the case of three Delta Airlines employees who, in a moment of complete and utter stupidity, forgot to claim their drug-filled luggage from the baggage carousel. When Customs and Border Protection agents at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport inspected the forgotten item, they were shocked to discover $600,000 worth of narcotics sealed inside several individual baggies. It didn’t take officials long to track the luggage back to three Delta employees.

Luis Marroquin, 35, Carlos R. Springer, 41, and Kelvin Rondon, 27, were charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin. Although Springer and Rondon were rounded up earlier this week, Marroquin remains at-large. All three are currently facing life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million. That’s an extremely costly mistake to make.

“Delta takes these matters very seriously and will continue to work with law enforcement agencies in their investigation,” said in a statement.
