In the wake of last week’s horrific, tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado, the victims and families of the deceased can take away one sure thing: President Obama won’t take this lying down.
The POTUS met with those families on Sunday for over two hours, allowing them to share their stories before giving a televised address to the nation about moving forward.
“They assure us that out of this darkness a brighter day is going to come,” Obama said. “Although the perpetrator of this evil act has received a lot of attention over the last couple of days, that attention will fade away. And in the end, after he has felt the full force of our justice system, what will be remembered are the good people who were impacted by this tragedy.”
A mass memorial was held for the victims over the weekend at the city’s municipal center; across town, a large grouping of crosses, flowers, and handwritten notes commemorate the dead on a hill near the theater. The city of Aurora is struggling with its grief, evident in the way the governor spoke about the madman who took 12 lives early Friday morning.
“I refuse to say his name. In my house we’re just going to call him Suspect A,” John Hickenlooper said.
The shooter, James Holmes, is being held in an isolated prison cell until his arraignment, which is scheduled for this morning. We will keep you updated on any breaking news.
