Cee Lo Green Annouces Departure From ‘The Voice,’ Explains Why

Cee Lo Green has made it clear that he won’t be returning for another season of The Voice.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the Grammy Award-winning singer stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he made the official announcement regarding his decision to leave NBC’s hit singing competition series.

The “F*** You” singer, who is also one half of the group Gnarls Barkley, clearly stated that he has no future plans of returning to the show “at all.” He told DeGeneres that he didn’t want to “wear out his welcome.”

However, Green did state that he does have plans to continue working with the network. The 39-year-old singer-songwriter shared that he currently has a development deal with NBC for a television show. Green also shared his aspirations of some talk show opportunities in the works as well.

“I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC. I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year,” the “Crazy” singer told Ellen DeGeneres. “But yeah, I’m going to miss The Voice, too. I’m not coming back, guys.”

A shocked DeGeneres inquired further about Green’s statement for more clarity. “Oh, you’re not coming back at all?” she asked. So, he gave the comedian-talk show host a concise answer. He also revealed that wrapping up his next album is one of his main focuses.

“I’m not coming back at all,” said Green. “I just don’t want to wear out my welcome there, you know what I’m saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven’t released an album in four years. I’m almost done with my album.”

“We’ll appreciate the music but we’ll miss you on The Voice,” DeGeneres told Green. “I had no idea. I just thought you were taking a leave. But you’re going to be amazing at anything you do.”

“I didn’t mean to drop the bomb today,” Green said.

However, Cee Lo Green will be joining legendary Commodores’ singer Lionel Richie on tour later this year. The tour, which currently has 35 scheduled concerts, will kick off on May 29, 2014 in Vancouver and wrap up on August 2, 2014 in Bethel, NY.
