Carrie Fisher had the honor of presenting her mother, iconic actress Debbie Reynolds, with the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award Sunday, and it provided viewers with some not-unexpected fun banter between the two actresses.
Debbie Reynolds, 82, was honored for her nearly seven decades in show business, including her work in film, television and on Broadway.
After being introduced by Carrie Fisher in a way only Carrie could deliver, Debbie Reynolds could not help but poke fun at the Star Wars actress. After expressing her heartfelt gratitude for the honor, Debbie Reynolds took a moment to share a piece of advice she shared with her daughter.
“A while ago, I did a movie… It was Singin’ in the Rain,” she began of the 1952 classic. “My favorite movie was Singin’ in the Rain. I had a good time making that picture, wearing myself out… Of course I had a wonderful hairdo in that picture. Some of you may not remember this [but] at the back of my head I had a big ugly bun.”

“So, I warned my daughter Carrie, who had just gotten a part in a big picture, Star Wars, ‘Well Carrie, be careful of any weird hairdos,’” Reynolds said, referring to the iconic buns Fisher wore on either side of her head as Star Wars‘ Princess Leia in the 1977 original. “Luckily George [Lucas] gave her two buns. Thank you, George.”
