Ariana Grande Opens Up About Overcoming Confidence Issues

Ariana Grande is dominating the Billboard charts with her hit single, “Problem.”

Right now, it looks as though the 21-year-old singer is on top of the world. However, she recently revealed she didn’t always feel as if she were on top of her game.

The Truly Yours singer reportedly had confidence issues as a teenager. During a recent interview with Seventeen, she spoke candidly about that bleak time in her life.

Surprisingly, Grande revealed overcoming insecurity has been one of her biggest personal battles.

“It’s tough to spend some of the most important years of your life in front of so many strangers who want to pick you apart,” the “Break Free” singer explained.

“Insecurity has been the hardest thing I’ve had to overcome. I think everyone my age struggles with that because everyone strives for approval and wants to feel loved,” Grande said.

“Everybody has certain things that make them feel insecure. Even when you overcome a huge battle in your life, and you make a ton of progress as a person, there are still things that will upset you and break your heart. But I feel like I’m at a point in my life where love is the most important thing, and I won’t let anything come before it.”

There are still times when she has to ignore negativity and press forward. Just a few weeks ago, several media outlets scrutinized the former Sam & Cat star by comparing her to Miley Cyrus. Grande was accused of trying emulate Cyrus’ style.

However, she refuses to let the negativity cause her to lose sight of the positive things taking place in her life. She wants fans to know she’s doing just fine!

“I feel like, for the first time in my life, I’m really okay,” Grande said. “I used to freak out about everything all the time. I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, somebody said this!’ Everything used to be such a big deal! But now, I feel I can handle everything that comes my way with a calm energy.”

Ariana Grande‘s second studio album My Everything is scheduled to be released August 25, 2014.
