Amber Tamblyn says she and America Ferrera are still good friends even though it’s been nine years since they starred as besties in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Tamblyn and Ferrera, along with Blake Lively and Alexis Bledel, made up a quartet of best friends in the 2005 adaptation of Ann Brashares’ bestselling young adult novel.
They reprised their roles in 2008’s follow-up The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.
Tamblyn spoke about her friendship with Ferrerra on Saturday at the Los Angeles premiere of Ferrera’s new movie X/Y.
According to Tamblyn, she and husband David Cross (Arrested Development, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Kung Fu Panda) frequently double date with Ferrera and husband Ryan Piers Williams (The Dry Land, Oceans Twelve.)
“Usually America and I [go] out first, eating and catching up and talking about existentialism and philosophy, and where we are in our lives. And that usually lasts about two hours,” Tamblyn said. “And then the dudes join up … and then we talk about sports for 10 minutes. And then America and I go back to being in love with each other. They go off and do their own thing.”
Back in 2013 Tamblyn expressed gratitude for her continued friendship with Ferrera:
“I feel very lucky, and it never ceases to amaze me that it turned out this way. And even David and Ryan are friends – like, our dudes are friends.”
The quartet was reunited in 2012 at Lively’s September wedding to actor Ryan Reynolds. They got together the following month at Tamblyn and Cross’ wedding.
Tamblyn said Lively helped pick out her wedding dress:
“It was actually like a marigold dress and the design of it … Blake … really helped me with … She was someone who was sort of instrumental in it, and I knew I didn’t want a white dress and I always thought of kind of a bright jewel tone.”
As for Ferrera, Tamblyn said she “was one of three people to speak at my wedding. She’s one of my best friends.”
In April Alloy Entertainment, which produced the first two Sisterhood movies announced plans to develop a third film in the series. Casting for Sisterhood Everlasting has yet to be announced, but Alloy president Les Morgenstein has alluded to a reunion of the original actors:
