Amanda Knox Will Not Go Back To Court

Italian authorities are reconsidering information related to the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, but Amanda Knox will not return to Italy for the retrial. Her lawyers will operate on her behalf. The gruesome crime occurred while Amanda Knox and Meredith Kercher were roommates studying abroad in Perugia, Italy.

This will be the third time Italian courts have considered facts about this murder. After four years spent in an Italian prison, the college student was acquitted in 2011 by an Italian appeals court; however, the Italian Supreme Court has decided to reject that ruling and request a new trial. A new trial that will see both Amanda Knox and her boyfriend at the time of the murder, Raffaele Sollecito, brought back into the spotlight.

Amanda Knox’s lawyer, Carlo Dalla Vedova, expressed his disagreement with the recent decision of the Italian courts.

“We respect the Supreme Court’s decision, but we do not agree with it. All the facts were analyzed already. So now we simply re-start and re-do the case. We are ready to start again in Florence, and we are looking forward to defending Amanda. She is completely innocent,” Carlo Dalla Vedova said.

In April, Diane Sawyer interviewed Amanda Knox about the ordeal of imprisonment, the circumstances that led up to the night of the crime, and the proceedings throughout the trial.

Concerning the experience, Amanda Knox shared, “I felt like after crawling through a field of barbed wire and finally reaching what I thought was the end, it just turned out that it was the horizon, and I had another field of barbed wire that I had ahead of me to crawl through.”

Amanda Knox was interviewed by CNN’s Chris Cuomo in May of this year where he poignantly questioned rumors about Amanda’s interest “into some freaky sexual things” and she directly responded.

“No one has ever claimed that I was ever taking part in deviant sexual activity. None of my roommates, none of my friends, none of the people who knew me there. This is simply coming out of the prosecution. I was not strapping on leather and bearing a whip. I have never done that. I have never taken part in an orgy. Ever,” Amanda said.

Amanda Knox explained her behavior at the time. “I was sexually active, not sexually deviant,” she said.
